Not an art post, but one of my favorite things as of late is seeing the RetroMini and RetroGame and other knockoff handheld ROM players on my dash.
Like, can we appreciate the fact that some people looked at all these wonderful old games and thought “getting physical copies is hard and expensive. Roms are fun, but playing on a computer just isn’t the same. What if we combined the two?”
And just, not only are they doing it exetremely well, but they’re affordable. The RMini and RGame are the only two I’ve looked into myself, but like, they’re $65 and $75 respectively. That’s less than half the cost of a new DS or a used Gameboy. And you can play HUNDREDS of games on them without changing/losing/damaging cartridges or worrying about cartridge batteries dying. The RetroGame comes with 818 games preloaded into it and you can still potentially add more. They honestly pay for themselves.
And on some of them you can play console games too like NES, SEGA, and PS1?? And just, those are games I never got to play but have desperately wanted to my whole life and I could take them on the go???
And even then, Nintendo is undusting old consoles too and updating them a bit because they see us all wanting to play these games.
This world may suck ass right now but at least there are some wonderful things in it.
