The Penguin 1x07 - Top Hat
Now we’ve seen Rex live and in color, and we now can confirm completely that over 70% of the things Oz has said is completely spun bs, do you think that Rex had a parade thrown in his honor or that was another lie. Like Oswald made Rex out to be ’The Guy’ and he was just…a prick with painted gold rims.
From the scene of him roughing up some shop keep, I can imagine it was ‘thank god he’s dead’ parade
Oh yeah I need to make a post about what was and wasn't true about Rex hahahaha.
Honestly, I think some local small time neighborhood gangster wouldn't even have warranted a "thank god he's dead" parade, you know? Too much effort for some dime a dozen criminal.
Still, the parade thing is so specific, I feel like there must have been something that Oz interpreted in that way. Maybe that was the first funeral little Oz had been to, and he was shocked at how many of his neighbors turned out, not knowing that they were all kinda obligated to because they were employed by him and his crew like his mom.
From ep 5 onwards, a lot of people (me included) started theorizing that Rex Calabrese was going to turn out to be Oz's dad.
The finale kind of disproved that—I doubt Rex would have been so calm talking about killing Oz if it were true—but in a weird kind of way, we weren't entirely off base.
Rex might not be Oz's father, but in a way, he is the Penguin's. After the death of her other sons, Francis was completely lost, living with a monster she didn't know what to do with.
Rex was the one who put it into Francis' head that Oz could be useful. That if she couldn't bear to get rid of him, she could turn his monstrosity into something beneficial.
Because like, I don't know that that it ever would have occurred to her on her own, to actively push him to become bigger and better and more monstrous to provide for her. Jack said she didn't want Oz talking to Rex, so it seems that despite her relationship to Rex she didn't want her sons following in his footsteps. She wasn't really deep into the criminal life—I think she just worked for him to get by and support her kids.
Rex was the one who put her onto this path—and she was the one who shaped an impulsive, selfish little boy into a plague on all of Gotham, a Typhoid Mary of misery and pain infecting everyone in his life.
Side note but I would let Rex Calabrese ruin my life

¹ He is the husband of Maria Kyle and father of their two daughters. There is a debate if he is Selina Kyle's father, it goes like this: (i) Selina's actual father is Rex Calabrese who abandoned her at nine year of age, she was placed in foster homes. (ii) Selina's father is Carmine Falcone, we have two versions on this: (a) She is the daughter of Carmine Falcone and Maria Kyle, he is not aware of the relationship until 'told' by his daughter [As per the Pattinson movie]; (b) She is the biological daughter of Louise and Carmine Falcone, their fourth child that was spirited away so that it would not be killed [Not Confirmed].

I'm finally getting around to watching The Batman (2022), and given Carmine Falcone is Selina's father in this film, rather than Rex Calabrese, they should give her both dads
