Rest in peace, Omegle. I know a lot of people clown on the site, but I genuinely had a lot of fun on there. It was an amazing place to roleplay. It was an amazing place to meet new people. I met one of my best friends when I was younger on Omegle. I'm wishing her the best and I'm wishing Leif K-Brooks the best in their journey going forward. It sucks that something they were so passionate about can no longer function, but thank you for all the good times. o7

Something about this part of the Omegle shutdown kinda hit—

We are losing old internet spaces, yes, and they’re being replaced with vacuous data-scrapers as the web becomes infinitely commercial. This is why the personal web is so much more important now, why us as the victims of these events should take our internet experience back into our own hands and not give the corporations what they want.

I thought Omegle was a good idea! It was just the people who ruin it for everybody else that took it from being the village street the founder mentioned into a dark alleyway that smells like trouble, at least with the reputation it began to present for me.

I hope one day we get the internet we all deserve; a place to share and create on our own terms, together.
