red my belo- let's not get sidetracked here.
a lot of this i've yapped about already. red grew up like glitchy, dragged about some shitty, dangerous space jobs. what it cost them in terms of education, it also gained them in experience.
by the time red themself started working, they've already been used to the conditions. not that they've experienced much else in life.
surprisingly, most encounters with impostors red has had in their childhood went well and there really weren't many of those instances in the first place. their parent wasn't jumped by impostors or anything, they're just having health complications preventing them to continue working in space safely, so they're back on earth.
this also means EVEN LOWER income (because they live in a fucking dystopia, yay) and red feels responsible to step up and repay them by taking care of them.
so they have a lot on their mind. even so, all of that only seemed to make red that kinder and more gentle. they know life can be tough, so they always try not to make it harder for others.
it would be a mistake to misinterpret their kindness as weakness, however. they're fiercely protective over their friends and aren't afraid to stand up for the right thing. it's also relatively hard to walk over them, as they're too mature to waste their time and energy on people trying to exploit them for their kindness.
being gentle but firm is one of the main reasons so many people look up to, and feel safe around them. they're pretty much a magnet for struggling people, because they make them feel understood and accepted.
despite this being rather flattering, red is unaware of/wouldn't like being a role model. they're very insecure of the way they grew up and still living in poverty. they desperately want other people to have a chance to realize their full potential, instead of being forced to waste it away. so if anything, they think they're a good role model of "who you shouldn't end up being".
this is partially the subconscious reason they take to yellow, who they think is too young to have "already fucked up their life". that, and they also want glitchy to have a better chance in life then they did.
fun fact: victory spoils exists because of red, despite the fact they're dead! 😭 being the impostor victory au, it is set in alternate timeline, except purple never breaks the relic. taking it back from red, while the crew is forced to flee, means reactor doesn't get sabotaged in this timeline. purple then runs back to weapons, launching missiles and blowing dropship up. so you could say that the reason the concept exists in the first place is because red had a skill issue.
red is 171cm tall, lanky gingerhead. they have a fluffy big hair they wear up sometimes and skin covered head to toe in freckles. they have generally sharp features, textured mostly by crows feet, wrinkles and other kind of age lines. it barely mamages to make them look more mature, as they have that nonbinary effect that makes you still look like a baby when you're 80.
they wear them polo shirts and dad on vacation shirts, completely proudly and with full confidence and honestly? good for them. they mostly wear black, low quality affordable jewelry.
they often volunteer to take care of glitchy. sometimes because yellow genuinely has too much on her plate, sometimes just because they believe yellow has the right to free time too. glitchy loves them very much as well. they usually take them with them to do tasks just like yellow does, but sometimes when they can afford to slack off, they escape the colony for a few hours to go have a snowball fight, skiing, ice skating and likewise activities that would send yellow into a coma if she knew.
when they do stay back within the colony, red takes them to make snowmen.
it's a bit different on skeld because there really isn't anywhere to get away to, but they don't mind teaching glitchy how to play board games, and even sneak cartoons/video games onboard.
i have some hcs about impostor red in alt (and og now apparently?), though they exist for exactly 3 seconds in vs. i said this in my red bingo already, but it perhaps makes more sense now that you understand the depth of red's involvement with yellow and glitchy. ss put them through hell, but they also put themself through such. yellow's blood is on their own hands in their head and doing it out of self preservation barely does anything to comfort them. it's not only that. they had to watch crew pull yellow away from glitchy and look them in the eyes as they rigged the results of that voting. they had to look glitchy in the eyes after changing 'confirm ejects' message to make their mother go out remembered as a murderer. they made them an orphan and they made yellow an impostor in everyone else's eyes. they never got to tell the truth to polus crew. they're never going to fully heal from that, or from how small and helpless they felt under ss. please someone give this bean a hug.
(it's not happening, now they're about to become a science experiment. nice. dump it all on red ig.)
that said i do think they still believe yellow blames them. yellow doesn't, which is very clear from them saving their life, but red doesn't know that. i actually headcanon that impostor ghosts they see don't miss an opportunity to remind them that yellow despises them. and yellow can't do anything to oppose those claims because they can't talk to red themself.

blue is an adorable, awkward nerd that has a heart of plated gold. his parents wanted him to be a doctor, to which he said "nah there's money in software development, trust" and then he ended up on skeld due to field oversaturation. 🙃
being a gay ass, loser ass, guy in tech ass disappointment, he navigates his life with uncanny work aesthetic (only they know where things are in the pile), horrendous sleep schedule and a method to hack the coffee machine to get 5 cups a day.
he probably has some depression issues, but he has a job right now so he doesn't care about that (someone send help to these beans).
blue is 167cm tall (short king in comparison), fat man. you could call him a femboy, but it's mostly his soft features and long black hair making him look that way. he wears the first thing he pulls out of his closet in the morning. he likes feeling like a pretty princess but most of the time has 0 energy and willpower to make it happen. 😔 still slaying tho
he wears low ponytails and manbuns (which is just a bun? idk why people call them that). most definitely owns custom printed clothing of some more niche interests. he also gets those done for others for birthday presents. absolutely wholesome goober.
he had an emotional support dog (yes, the company allows for employees to pick one animal to bring with them) that died tragically after falling into lava.
he hasn't brought any pets into space since. probably wasn't the wisest idea on company's end on the first place, but to be fair they don't really care about anyone's safety (all workers and animals and replacable) AND it's cheaper and easier to allow a therapy animal onboard than pay an actual therapist.
he's the host of all game nights and movie nights the gang has (those happen a lot). organizing those makes his boyfailure ass feel useful for once and like he isn't an absolute mess. he is also likely to offer distractions and try to entertain/cheer people up as a way of supporting them through hardships.
-job/role: administration
i would say white grew up a black sheep child, but that's an overstatement. yes, she was less favorite between the 2 and clearly less talented, but her parents tried hard not to let it show (it did). as much as her parents didn't discriminate and tried to raise both of their children equally, there was always this lingering feeling of being in her sister's shadow.
that said, white grew up successful, but it was never enough to satiate her ambitions regardless. i mean yes, she's an admin, a job that requires focus, precision and very often intelligence... on a small mission on a fuck-knows planet. yeah, not very pretentious.
and don't tell anyone she said this, but it's lowkey a boring job. but that's the thing. she couldn't pick a fun job that doesn't rely on intelligence because well, quite frankly, she feels like her intelligence IS her only quality. but then she also couldn't pick a fun job that DOES rely on it, because there was always this possibility her sister would choose it to and she will simply live reminded of her inferiority every single day.
not being the best at the only thing you're good at sucks.
despite this, white doesn't really harbor hard feelings against her, only against herself. not that she's aware of them, ofc, they just exist in her subconsciousness as this lowkey, low intensity feelings of boredom and dissatisfaction with her routine life.
working in administration also means that most encrypted messages go through white. she is tasked with keeping in contact with mission control.

white is 160cm tall, skinny woman. being short and thin perhaps has its perks, but being thrown around all the time isn't one. the fact she grew up scrawny doesn't help. scrawny kids unite 😔
she actually wears uniforms and formal wear even when she doesn't need to, habit formed from growing up rich. it's more formal-casual now that's she's on skeld.
she wears her afro in the quickest bun/ponytail she can pull off. she used to straighten her hair back when her high end circles convinced her it makes her look more "professional" and "put together". but she doesn't give a fuck anymore (you go girl!). it's also the fact she doesn't really like her hair touching her neck and she soon learned straightening it makes that infinitely worse.
she actually loves makeup but unfortunately can't bring as much of it onboard as she would want to (don't ask how much she would bring).
big thing to consider is that she grew up pretty well off and her parents were the ones to accumulate wealth, which makes her new money/second gen. talk about pressure that was unavoidable no matter how hard her parents tried to just let their kids find themselves. 🙃
idk why i just feel like she has everything on her. you need a pencil? she has one. need a napkin, hair tie, gum literally anything you can think of? she just spawns items in like creative mode.
tried to make friends with impostors as a child but her parents definitely didn't allow it. she kind of walks the line between "hosts need help" and "there's nothing inheritly wrong with impostors" without realizing how exclusive those statements can be. growing up in a well standing family also means growing up hearing about the "impostor issue" and how it can be "cured" or "fixed". which sounds great in theory, especially when you were never allowed around any impostor community ever.

however i would like to discuss how these experiences affected her personality. the thing is, she genuinely believes she's supposed to be used.
well, not outright, but she does feel like she owes people obedience and forgiveness if she's to be loved. it started in the childhood, continued in her first serious relationship with glitchy's father and yeah...
she isn't exactly an addict, but she does drink socially. she goes from tipsy, depending on who they're with either flirty or just very hyper, to very drunk, at which point she starts bawling her eyes out about being a horrible mother (she really isn't), a whore (entirely internalized belief) and a failure (slightly true, but it's really not her fault). she's literally impossible to comfort in this state and the best thing you can do is wait it out and try to get her to fall asleep.
there's definitely a part of her light and ambition that wasn't fully dimmed by her awful life experiences and it mostly comes out when she's around people she feels comfortable with. if you manage to convince her you see her as a person (yes the bar is that low), you will see who she is beneath it all, someone who's very determined, dedicated and strong. she's capable of keeping her spark in the darkest places and carry on regardless. it's an admirable trait to have, and only makes sense. she WAS going to become a soldier before everything went to shit, after all, and so it only makes sense she is pretty mentally tough and headstrong. and things definitely didn't go to shit because she lacks the courage.
yellow is 170cm tall, curvy-lean hourglass blonde. she has bright green eyes and i mean slightly too green, are we sure this is naturally possible? she keeps her wavy hair up in a scrunchy (yes, a thousand years from now, leave her alone).
she has some tattoos from when she first joined the navy (repressed child to sudden bloom of self expression, but also risky behavior as soon as they go to college pipeline). most of them are of different flowers/plants because she's a flower nerd and knows everything about flower codes (and botany).
her favorite item of clothing she owns is an offshoulder yellow sweater, tho she likes sweaters and jackets in general. can you tell winter is her favorite season?

she's crushing back on lime, but is absolutely oblivious to the fact that men can treat you well even if they like you, so she thinks he's just being nice.
repressed a lot of her hobbies in childhood, but she's rediscovering them now. such as reading, gaming (mostly with the gang and glitchy that always joins them) and handball.
