I dislike kpop groups that are popular right from debut. I don't hate the idols, but I hate the imbalance it brings to the kpop sphere.
I prefer groups that have steady growth and build their own niche instead of essentially forcing their way to the top with connections and money.
That's why I disliked Produce groups. They're only around for two years, but in the time they're active, their dominance kills the momentum of groups who debut around the same time. They have so much attention, other groups get cast aside.
And in non-Produce or survival show groups who are instantaneously popular, they use the clout of their predecessors.
Nothing is wrong with using clout to gain a foothold, but again, it screws with the industry's balance. Even as kpop grows worldwide, it's still a small percentage of groups that make all the money. We should be trying to increase that percentage because lord knows so many idols fly under the radar.
Not everyone has to be BTS or Blackpink, but every time a rookie group pops out with sales that it took established groups years to build towards, it feels like a step backward.
So, organic growth above all. Viral popularity isn't something to be impressed about.
