Heya, sorry for the wait! I kept this ask jn my inbox until I finished reading the book!

Short answer: I absolutely fucking love it!!! It is so amazing! And I'm not even surprised that it's this good because of course @jonnywaistcoat would write only the best horror story! But apart from that, I'll also give an a bit more in depth review after the cut ^^

Soooo to get the negative out of the way first: this is in no way the authors fault but Jonny's style of writing really often utilizes dropping a name again and again until it slowly becomes suspicious and tension builds. Unfortunately I can't remember names for shit so that's a thing that I struggled with in both tma and 13 storeys ^^' But! For 13 storeys I could at least just flip to a few pages/chapters earlier to check if that was the name!

Apart from that I loved the Format of the somewhat separate short stories that had more and more interconnections and then ended up as different sides of one whole story. The characters felt really fleshed out, even the ones that weren't in the main focus. I also found it fascinating how tenants from both sides of Banyan Court were given their stories, as well as a few people from outside like the realtor lady Laura and the plumber Janek. I also really enjoyed the diversity in the characters in general. There were mentions of dame sex couples but I completely lost my mind when my boi Damian showed up! He's trans! He wears a binder!! He hates his father!!! I feel represented OwO (even tho I luckily didn't have to live on the street for 6 years…) Oh and Caroline marrying Violet in the end was sooo sweet!!

Story wise I really dig Jonny's writing style anyway, so that wasn't a suprise. The whole concept of supernatural elements that represent very real and tragic elements of everyday life gets under your skin like very few horror storys do, at least for me. And the ending was very satisfying! I feel like Jonny is really good at writing endings, since that's usually something I struggle with as both a reader and an author, because I don't want stories to end. But his works, the ones I've expirienced so far (aka tma, The Mechanisms and now 13 storeys), always leave me feeling just the perfect amount of sad and satisfied! Big kudos for that, Mr. Sims!

I could probably go on and on about this book but I think I'll leave it at that. Feel free to DM me if you wanna talk more! ^^

Imo nothing can beat the good old heartfelt "fuck" and it's many derivatives. "fuck off" it's a pretty good one especially

Yes! two on my right forearm. one from a nail, the other from a loose wire

and the one from when I accidentally cut off a good chunk of the nail from my left pinky. flesh and all. (wooden cabbage shredders activate my fight or flight response now jdkfkhfd)

I LOOOOOOOOVE KEKKAI SENSEN SO MUCH!!!

It’s so underrated!!! I don’t understand why it never really “blew up” like MHA, Jujutsu Kaisen or even Bungou Stray Dogs did! I think that it’s still fairly popular but I don’t see that much content for it on my dash unless I really look for it.

I just love this chaotic found family so much you know :’) I love how unhinged yet ultimately loving they are together ... It also has such a fun premise, it’s MHA and BSD’s chaotic bastard child? I probably shouldn’t keep comparing it to MHA because the two shows are very different, but one day I saw someone saying that Kekkai Sensen is probably what’s happening in America in the MHA world and it’s really fitting XD

But yeah, this story is so creative and wild but is still grounded by its loveable cast of characters. It has such a good balance of emotions, humour, action and just insanity!!! I mean obviously, you know all of this but I just really want to convince everyone else!

For now, I only watched the two seasons of the anime, but I’m going to try to read the manga soon because I heard that it’s quite different! 

I still wish we could get a season 3 though, I miss these dumbasses so much :’)
