On This Day In Royal History . 29 April 2011 . 👑 Prince William married Catherine Middleton . . The wedding of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, & Catherine Middleton took place on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London. . ◼ The groom, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, is the eldest son of Charles, Prince of Wales & Diana, Princess of Wales, & second, after his father, in line to succeed his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. . ◼ The bride, Catherine Middleton is the eldest of three children of Michael & Carole Middleton of Bucklebury Manor at Pease Hill, Berkshire. . ◼ The Dean of Westminster, John Hall, presided at the service; the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, conducted the marriage; Richard Chartres, the Bishop of London, preached the sermon; &  a reading was given by the bride’s brother, James. . ◼ William’s best man was his brother, Prince Harry, while the bride’s sister, Pippa, was maid of honour. . ◼ The ceremony was attended by the bride’s & groom’s families, as well as many foreign royals, diplomats, & the couple’s chosen personal guests. . ◼ After the ceremony, the couple made the traditional appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. Prince Leopold married Princess Helena of Waldeck and Pyrmont. . . ◼ Insisting that the children of British monarchs should marry into other reigning Protestant families, Queen Victoria suggested Princess Helene Friederike, the daughter of Georg Viktor, reigning Prince of Waldeck-Pyrmont. . ◼ On 27 April 1882, Leopold &  Helena were married, at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. . ◼ Leopold & Helena enjoyed a happy (although brief) marriage. In 1883, Leopold became a father when his wife gave birth to a daughter, Alice. Queen Elizabeth II married Prince Philip . . 👑 Princess Elizabeth (now Queen Elizabeth II) and Philip Mountbatten (now Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh) were married at 11:30 GMT on 20 November 1947 at Westminster Abbey. . ◼ Princess Elizabeth was attended by eight bridesmaids: HRH The Princess Margaret (her younger sister), HRH Princess Alexandra of Kent (her first cousin), Lady Caroline Montagu-Douglas-Scott (daughter of the Duke of Buccleuch), Lady Mary Cambridge (her second cousin), Lady Elizabeth Lambart (daughter of the Earl of Cavan), The Hon. Pamela Mountbatten (Philip's first cousin), The Hon. Margaret Elphinstone (her first cousin) and The Hon. Diana Bowes-Lyon (her first cousin). Her cousins Prince William of Gloucester & Prince Michael of Kent served as page boys. . ◼ The royal parties were brought in large carriage processions, the first with The Queen and Princess Margaret and later a procession with Queen Mary. At Kensington Palace, Philip departed with his best man, the Marquess of Milford Haven. Princess Elizabeth arrived at the Abbey with her father, King George, in the Irish State Coach. . ◼ The wedding ceremony was officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Geoffrey Fisher, & the Archbishop of York, Cyril Garbett. About the Royal Couple; 👑 PRINCE GEORGE, DUKE OF KENT (b.20 December 1902 – d.25 August 1942) was the fourth son & fifth child of King George V & Queen Mary, & younger brother of Kings Edward VIII & George VI. ◼ He held the title of Duke of Kent from 1934 until his death in a military air-crash.
