HTTYD RTTE CONCEPT

So you know how the twins sometimes say stuff in other languages? Like, it’s been a while since I last watched Race to the Edge but I seem to recall Spanish and French and stuff.

So, what if one time they’re just being Classic Thorston Twins TM and maybe some sort of multilingual, elaborate but ultimately French based joke.

And Snotlout just snaps at them to “Shut up! Nobody knows what you’re saying.”

And Tuff starts, “My dear Snotman, the wonder of the French language lies in (fill this in yourselves I haven’t thought that far yet)”

Snotlout: Well, I don’t speak CROISSANT!

(You know, the classic line)

And he views French as this very unmanly language.

Except then one of the women he has crushed on at some point (probably Heather because I have reasons why the others wouldn’t work) tells him, quite genuinely that “I think French is nice.” and “You know what? I think it would fit you.”

And Snotlout just pauses for a moment to take the words in. But then still denies the entire bloody language. (But it has successfully managed to reach his fashion diva, self-care core)

Some months later Snotlout and Hiccup are out doing something and get into trouble with some people who only speak French.

(And for the purposes of this next part, Hiccup doesn’t speak French, though I’ve heard book Hiccup is quite fluent)

And tensions are rising as the French-speakers are getting agitated and pulling out weapons and Hiccup is trying really hard to figure out how to mediate the situation.

Snotlout frowns at the foreigners in concentration before something they say makes him gasp in offence and he bursts out the French equivalent of “Excuse me?! How dare you–“ only to proceed to exchange some more heated words in his own broken French with the foreigners while Hiccup stares at the interaction in shock.

There is a moment where the foreigners turn to speak amongst themselves where Snotlout realises Hiccup is staring at him and he avoids looking in the other’s direction.

“So…” Hiccup drawls and doesn’t even try to stifle the teasing in his voice. Snotlout had denied the language with his entire being for so long after all. “French, huh?”

“Shut up, Hiccup,” Snotlout snaps and tries not to feel embarrassed.

Hiccup can see the pink of his cheeks though. He snorts but lets the matter drop. They have a situation after all.

The foreigners turn back to Snotlout and ask him something. Snotlout fumbles to figure out its meaning and answer.

A few more sentence exchanges.

Snotlout perks up at something and his next response is indignant.

The foreigners get hostile again.

Hiccup leans towards Snotlout, “Uuuh, what did you say to them?”

Snotlout stares on as the French-speakers pull out their weapons again and start closing in on them. He looks confused, trying to figure it out himself.

“Uuuuh, about the sea? Oh. Oh,” Snotlout’s eyes widen with worried realisation. “I must have pronounced something really wrong, crap.”

“Snotlout?” Hiccup asks more insistently for further elaboration as they are both forced to take more steps back.

“So I may have somehow managed to insult their mothers?” Snotlout’s sentence rushes out. “Stupid mer and mère,” he murmurs angrily.

Yeah, that’s all I got.

Damn, once I start actually trying to write things out I’m more of a past tense person, this was a weird experience. Not to mention that I don’t speak French, my sister does.

But yeah. Snotlout and French. Adding it to my headcanons.

ROBT/D Headcanons

Here’s some headcanons I have for how Rapunzel, Jack, and Merida would interact with HTTYD characters (as well as some headcanons for their backstories in this world). I’m doing this specifically in Hiccup’s world because HTTYD is my favourite of the four ROBTG movies, and an AU where the other three characters are in his world would excite me the most.

Rapunzel

Backstory:

I’m thinking of something very similar to her story in Tangled, except instead of being kidnapped, she has extremely strict and often emotionally abusive parents (or one of them is – I’m inclined to say her father because some stuff from Tangled the Series made me dislike him) who kept her locked away both to protect others from using her powers but also so they can have unlimited access to it – I’m thinking to enchant items or to project the kingdom or themselves? Idk the details yet. She’s either still a princess or a powerful chieftain's daughter. Being on the run with the dragon riders may be perceived as an act of aggression on Berk’s part so...war maybe? I’m in real danger of making this AU a writing project.

I think Rapunzel would be besties with Hiccup and Fishlegs. They all have a shared sense of enthusiasm for creativity and discovery and I think she would adore taking care of dragons. (I imagine in this world, Pascal is something similar to a Terrible Terror). I also think Rapunzel would be very good friends with Heather – she would see the hurt and trauma Heather’s carrying with her and want to be there for her as much as possible. I also think Heather would be somewhat jealous of Rapunzel’s innocence and sheltered life, but also become very protective of her because of that. I see Dagur being similar and probably warming up to Rapunzel quickly the same way he did with Fishlegs after the redemption arc.

Rapunzel is initially very intimidated by Astrid, and Astrid is a little annoyed by Rapunzel because she’s well-meaning but often takes on more than she can handle or gets into trouble by mistake. Rapunzel is the least combat-oriented of all the characters, and while she’s clever enough to get out of tough situations, she feels like her lack of fighting ability makes her stand out. Eventually though, Astrid warms up to her and similarly to Heather, wants to protect her.

Rapunzel and Merida don’t get along initially. Merida thinks Rapunzel is boring, and Rapunzel thinks Merida is rude and selfish (especially when Merida complains about her mother). I see them growing closer as they get to know each other go through some adventures together. I see Rapunzel getting along super well with Snotlout, but specifically Snotlout in RTTE, because that’s when we see him lean into a lot of his creative pursuits. Snotlout initially tries hitting on Rapunzel because that’s his default behaviour when he sees an attractive girl; he is unsuccessful because Rapunzel does not know she’s being flirted with and thinks he’s just really nice. Eventually Snotlout realizes that he’s not only okay with being friends with Rapunzel, but really likes spending time doing creative things with her and feels okay being vulnerable about his insecurities and talking about issues he has with his dad.

The twins initially see Rapunzel as a fantastic new target for pranks. She is absolutely not used to this, and tries to play along and be cool with it even though the pranks either confuse or upset her. At one point, one of the pranks makes her so upset that the twins develop an unspoken rule that their pranks on Rapunzel will just be harmless surprises or spontaneously nice things. Like they’ll organize her art supplies and be like “Ha! Loki’d!” and she’ll laugh and go “Oh, you guys got me!”. As for Jack – something similar, although he probably senses from early on he doesn’t want to go too far with his pranks or jokes with her. I think their dynamic would be similar to the friendship he has with Toothiana, so he anything he’d do would probably with the goal of trying to make her laugh rather than laughing at her.

Possible romantic interests because I can’t pick just one:

- Hiccup (they would be SO CUTE together. Little nerds aghh)

- Jack (because their dynamic would be very similar to that of Rapunzel and Eugene.)

- Heather (Because Heather reminds me of Cassandra. I can *kind of see Rapunzel with Astrid too but only in a polycule with Heather tbh)

- Dagur (I’m fairly certain this is a ship no one’s ever considered but I think it would be extremely cute – for basically the same reasons I ship Dagur and Fishlegs)

- Merida (Merida develops the crush first and starts acting really strange around Rapunzel. Rapunzel is extremely confused. It’s adorable.)

Jack

Backstory:

Jack is a rogue/thief who generally stays on his own. He’s not trusted by most honest people, and he’s not cruel enough to feel comfortable travelling with more violent thieves. He mostly steals what he needs and from people who can afford to lose it. When he steals more luxurious items, he’s usually being paid by someone else – or he’s doing it to spite someone who wronged him. At some point I imagined him being imprisoned by the Outcasts for trying to steal something important from Alvin, and meeting Dagur in prison – maybe they helped each other escape and meet back up later. At some point later he meets the dragon riders...maybe after trying to steal from them? But then they become friends. OH! Or Jack was working with Dagur and the Dragon Hunters for a while (maybe they had something on him? Blackmail or pay he couldn’t resist?) before defecting to the dragon riders. I like that a lot. Does he have powers in this AU? I don’t know.

Headcanons for Jack and Rapunzel already explained in the Rapunzel section.

I’ve talked about the dynamic I envision for Jack and Hiccup in a previous post – I think Jack realizes that Hiccup is actually much more a trouble maker than Jack, because while Jack likes to play jokes that are ultimately harmless, Hiccup causes real trouble while trying to do good things. So while Hiccup’s chaos amuses Jack, sometimes he finds himself having to step in and be the voice of reason (which greatly annoys him).

Jack and Astrid have a generally friendly rivalry. Astrid doesn’t like when Jack is untrustworthy or goes off and does his own thing (because he has trouble trusting others, even when theyre on his side), and Jack doesn’t like when Astrid bosses him around. However they do team up to make fun of Snotlout, and Hiccup does a good job of mediating between them when they have more serious arguments.

Jack and Heather have a weird hot and cold relationship where they see a lot of themselves in the other person and that makes them both very concerned for their wellbeing and also really annoyed with them all the time. If one of them shows too much concern, it makes the other uncomfortable and they’re like “screw you, I’m fine.” Jack intentionally annoys the hell out of Dagur, and the only reason Dagur doesn’t pummel him is because they have a long history (which Jack will never let Dagur forget).

As previously mentioned, Jack loves teasing Snotlout. He teams up with the twins to terrorize him, although probably goes easy on him if Rapunel or Hiccup are nearby. He loves spending time with the twins but sometimes finds them too chaotic even for him and has to try and mitigate some of their decisions when things get dangerous. Jack also likes teasing Fishlegs but he’s too nice for Jack to do anything too malicious. He probably teases him for being a nerd but also shows appreciation for how smart he is. Jack and Merida either hate each other or are best friends. I think it’s a bit of both. They have a rivalry that’s not always friendly. They care deeply for each other but would never admit it out loud.

Possible romantic interests:

- Hiccup (obviously)

- Fishlegs (he loves flirting with him and making him flustered)

- Rapunzel (same as Fishlegs)

- Dagur (okay...hear me out. I ship it a lot, but not entirely in a romantic way. Like they had a fling, Dagur developed romantic feelings and Jack wanted to be friends.)

Merida

Backstory:

Very similar to her backstory in Brave, except her father’s a chieftain. I see him being a very close friend of Stoick’s, so Merida and the other dragon riders saw each other a lot as kids. Her chiefdom accepted dragons and took to dragon riding pretty soon after Berk did.

Headcanons for Jack and Rapunzel in the earlier parts.

Merida is like Hiccup’s energetic younger sister. She likes teasing him and daring him to do things he doesn’t want to do. When they were kids, her dares worked on him, but in their late teens/early adulthood, he kind of just sighs and explains why it’s a bad idea. Merida and Astrid...kind of get along? They have a lot of similar interests and enjoy training together, but they clash for a lot of the same reasons Astrid and Jack do. But the unifying factor for all three of them is of course, teasing Snotlout together. Snotlout learned from an early age that aggressively flirting with Merida is a good way to end up as target practice, so he doesn’t even try anymore. Although he does like challenging her to archery competitions (which she always wins).

Merida loves the twins. They remind her of her little brothers. She helps them prank others but she gets really annoyed if they prank her. Merida and Heather are pretty good friends – not super close, but they get along. Dagur loves hanging out with Merida. They become extra chaotic when they’re around each other and Heather has to make sure neither of them get seriously hurt or hurt someone else. Merida intimidates Fishlegs but he thinks she’s really cool. They don’t hang out super often but she likes being around him when she’s upset about something because he’s good at helping her calm down.

Possible romantic interests

- Rapunzel

- Dagur (Okay also hear me out...two chaotic redheads. I see it. I’m imagining Dagur holding Merida back as she’s threatening to murder someone. There are hearts in his eyes.)

Okay so those are my headcanons. I really like the sound of these dynamics. I kind of want to flesh them out more because I'm realizing that I lumped the twins together as one entity, which I have a habit of doing.

I also think developing Jack, Merida, and Rapunzel's backstories unto some kind of AU would be fun, but I do want to finish the fic I'm working on now, which will take a long time.

Random Krogan headcanons

since Krogan is part lycanwing, he lacks some of the teeth that regular humans do. He has no molars, for example. What he does have is a hybridized version of molars and sharp back teeth for cracking bones open. Because of this, he often uses his hard upper pallet to chew things that are crunchy so as not to wear out his back teeth. This is allowed because he quite literally has a sandpaper like coating on the roof of his mouth for grinding things.

Among other weird things with his mouth, the only thing remotely normal about his set of teeth is the ones at the front of his mouth. Otherwise he has twelve canine teeth (three on each side both top and bottom). Despite this, fact and how large they are, typically he files the other two down to appear more natural, so it seems like he only has one set of canines instead of three.

To accommodate for these large, sharp teeth, in their natural state, not being filed down, he has a bit of a snaggletooth where sometimes one or two will poke out of his mouth, otherwise they do have a thin membrane attached to their roots that will tug them back and fold them in while not in use, considering these weapons are supposed to stay sharp since they’re used for both defense and offensive purposes.

Krogan has a forked tongue. It doesn’t impede his speech, and it is completely natural. He can move both forks of the tongue independently so use your imagination with that one I guess.

Krogan does have a strong enough teeth to crush an apple in his jaws without them breaking. He is also capable of using far more than the average human bite force (roughly 890psi in comparison to the average human’s measly 200-400 psi.) His bite is capable of leaving absolutely NASTY wounds since he can crush bones in his jaws very easily and he has a naturally venomous bite. (His venom is produced through his salivary glands.)

His venom is a neurotoxin. In high enough dosages it will go directly for the heart and the brain and liquify them from the inside out, thereby causing cardiac arrest and aneurysms. In a regular dose from him simply biting (he will guaranteed draw blood every single time. You cannot escape his venom.), you will oftentimes suffer severe migraines and very likely have permanent issues with your heart.

Humans are a natural part of Krogan’s diet. He does not actively hunt people but he will if he has to or is very hungry.

Krogan is for the most part an obligate carnivore. Much like a bear or a dog he can and will eat plants (mostly berries and flowers) but they are not a major part of his diet. It is only 20% of his diet. Otherwise he will get very sick.

Krogan has a third clear eyelid (nictating membrane) to protect his eyes while swimming or flying.

Stoick ate at the Great Hall more during the year that Hiccup lived on Dragon's Edge. He missed his son and dinners at home had become just a little bit too lonely.

maybe heather and dagur would have the same mortal parent but with a different divine parent. And I guess heathers divine parent wouldn't necessarily have to be a male god considering some of them can reproduce asexually/magically (at least athena can)

if theyre half siblings then i might put heather in the aphrodite cabin since she has a knack for manipulation and uh...everyone having a crush on her

but if they're in the same cabin, i'd put dagur and heather in the nemesis cabin

ok WAIT I think snotlout could be an apollo kid specifically based off his characterization in RTTE. like his theatre kid moments, singing, sewing, and writing...ok yeah i can definitely see that

and i think it would be very in character for him to arrive to camp and naturally assume he's going to be in the ares cabin and then lose his mind when he's placed in apollo because no way is hes some sensitive artsy kid

but then the longer he stays there the longer he realizes that he really does belong and all the aggressive tendencies that he thought would make him better suited for another cabin were actually defense mechanisms

Introducing: The K.R.O.G.A.N Project

The K.R.O.G.A.N Project is a project that starts in the year 2034, and was a test of DNA that was found frozen in Siberia from a set of teeth from the great Reaper.

To explain why two of the clones have Vitiligo, and one is an albino; we have to look at Krogan’s genes.

Krogan had the recessive traits for both albinism and Vitiligo, meaning any of his children could end up with albinism or vitiligo. I’m technicality, these four are his children, meaning, the recessive genes in Krogan’s genome was successfully activated in three out of the four clones.

Krogan

The eldest clone is simply known as Krogan. He was the one who came out wrong. The Pale One. He has many names, and he’s the most like his “father” (what they call the original Krogan) in personality.

In stature, he is not as large as the original Krogan. He’s smaller and more willowy compared to his father. Due to his albinism, he is also partially blind in both eyes. This cannot be fixed with optical surgery, or glasses, as it is the lack of pigmentation in his eyes that causes him to be blind.

Lilac

Lilac is the second eldest of the batch. He gets his name from his sweet personality, and his overall happy-go-lucky demeanor. Lilac takes after his father’s buff, powerful body type, and his strength, however he doesn’t really like using this strength, unless he is training with Reaper, as he is a strict pacifist, and probably wouldn’t hurt a fly unless he was absolutely livid at the creature.

Scorn

Scorn is essentially the middle child of the four. He gets his name because he’s quite vindictive, and because he has a quick temper. He’s the second tallest of the group, after Reaper.

Scorn looks the most like his father. He is the only one without Vitiligo or Albinism, and this can make him quite jealous of his brothers, because it seems like they get more attention than he does, despite, in Krogan’s case, it’s for medical reasons.

Scorn is really sweet underneath the coating of anger and fury, and he’s actually able to be quite amicable with others if given the chance to warm up to them. Otherwise, he is quite aloof at times.

Reaper

Reaper is the youngest. He is also the most chaotic out of the four, which at ten feet tall, can cause problems. He is given his name due to the patch of Vitiligo on his face that resembles a skull.

Reaper is well known for being cruel and stubborn, however he’s a big softy with emotional constipation.

He’s got a big heart, and is extremely curious of animals and most creatures that are living. Most of his scars are from mistreatment, however, as he technically isn’t part of the main K.R.O.G.A.N Project. He was created afterwards, by a group of dragon hunters, who were in need of a leader.

For a time, Reaper served as that leader, however he quickly dove out of their ideals, as he found that they were increasingly cruel to him.

He was taken underneath the arms of the researchers of the K.R.O.G.A.N Project at the age of six.

Krogan is multilingual and you can't convince me otherwise.

He at least knows Norse and Latin, but I headcanon he also knows High German (The language that was spoken in Northern Germany before Germany and Austria split into their respective countries) and Russian (he's conversational in both languages, and also has a basic understanding of a few other Slavic languages)

He's not entirely fluent in Ancient Egyptian, due to be taken away from his home at such a young age, but he does speak bits and pieces; and can sing entire melodies that his mother used to sing to him; though he doesn't... exactly... remember what most of the words mean, if you get my drift.

The reason why he knows German and Russian is because he was sent out to places in those countries a lot, and as such, he learned the languages to blend in, as tourism wasn't exactly a thing then, so there wouldn't be people speaking other languages in countries in europe at that point.
