Yall remember the time Ruby Baptiste tied up her racist rapey boss and fucked the dog shit out of him with a stiletto pump and then put her heels back on and left him crying on the floor backed by the sounds of Cardi B singing "these is bloody shoes..."
Because I'm still tripping off that shit
what do people who don’t watch Lovecraft Country think when they see all three of these couples tagged as the same ship?
I don't get shipping Black characters with oppressive white characters. Chemistry doesn't take away the fact that the white character is/was oppressive to the Black character or other characters.
Lovecraft Country season 1 finale spoilers
Ruby and William/Cristina had chemistry sure, but Cristina was a self serving white woman who manipulated Ruby, oppressed and threatened Ruby's family and friends and was essentially the big bad of the show. "oh but she seemed to have feelings for Ruby" doesn't make any less sociopathic or oppressive. She kept people in comas so she could change into them and was willing to use and sacrifice Black bodies to reach her goal. She was an evil white witch but yall just haaave to self insert anyway.
Take Care (Lovecraft Country Fic)
Christina finds Ruby at the bar. Ruby follows her to her car.

“Thank you, baby,” Ruby pants, adjusting herself on the narrow stool. Her chest is still heaving, having been on stage for more than two hours without respite. The vibration of bass strings thrums at the base of her skull as she hums along to the melody. “Sure thing,” The bartender grins. She watches the way his hips sway to a smooth rhythm as he sets the empty bottle behind him. “You keep turning out the room like that, and I’ll make sure you’re never thirsty again.” She snorts into her glass, emptying it in two large gulps. Of all the lines she'd thrown her way, that wasn’t the worst.
Singing to a rollicking crowd always leaves her feeling twelve stories high. Behind her, people continue to sing and dance, some lazily dragging their bodies against each other, while others croon their voices into the air. She wipes away the sweat gathering on her brow with a cloth. Her eyes drift back to the bartender, who now has his back to her, but is swaying his hips in a way that she knows is just for her. As if to confirm her suspicions, he looks back at her with a genuine smile.
“A little typical for my taste but I understand the appeal.”
She doesn’t look at Christina, just keeps her eyes trained on the empty glass at her fingertips. “Get the fuck out.”
Christina steps closer until she is an arm's length away. “I’m sorry, I had no idea you were in the possession of a Jazz bar,” the teasing lilt in Christina’s voice only serves to rile Ruby up.
“I may not own the place, but I still have a say in who walks through here,” Ruby challenges, setting her glass down and lifting herself from her stool to face her.
“You haven’t been to the house in a while. I-“
“Oh, so now, you care? Now, you give a damn?”
Even now, when her face is riddled with the pain she works so hard to expel, Ruby Baptiste is mesmerizing. It’s unfair really, how Christina can’t help but stand in awe. Her gaze floats from furious brown eyes to striking red lips. She has a terrible habit of directing all her attention to the lower half of Ruby’s face as if she could unravel the universe with a single word. “I was worried.”
Ruby’s laugh is swallowed by the relentless rhythms behind her. She raises her voice, “A twelve-year-old boy is butchered for existing and he gets nothing. I leave your sight for a few days and now you’re worried? Suddenly, you care.”
Christina steps closer and feels the wave of Ruby’s anger ripple against her. She revels in it. “Ruby,” she exhales, fixated on the crinkle at her eyebrow, and, for a moment, Ruby’s face softens. Their faces are so close now that she can feel the heat of Ruby’s defiance permeating her skin. Christina’s about to close the distance when she is interrupted by a deep voice.

“The first time I laid eyes on you was the first time in a while that I had felt magic where there was none”
Ruby was magic. Magic higher and deeper than any William had felt in his entire life. Growing up surrounded by it, that was saying a lot.
Her magic was raw, pure, primal. It was dipped in pain and hardship and still, it glowed. It was strong, resilient, mysterious.
As she lay asleep in bed, the events of the night replay in his mind like a movie.
Walking into that bar, led by something cosmic, something supernatural. Sitting at a stool as she walked out to the stage, guitar in hand, and a presence like no other.
Her gold dress, soulful eyes, rich brown skin; Ruby was magic.
A confident man, William still felt a tinge of uncertainty when he approached her. She was just as bold and electric as he had hoped. Falling for some random White man's charms? She was better than that.
She gave him an inch, he stretched it to a mile.
As the drinks flowed and she told him about her life and her struggles, he only fell more enamored with her.
Even as William kissed her against the stairs of his mansion, their bodies entangled in the heat of passion, his heart raced faster than ever.
Something about Ruby was familiar; she felt like home to him.
William, feeling tired, slows down his thoughts and leans over, kissing her lips once more before laying down beside her.
Soon, sleep comes.
What William didn't know was, Ruby felt the same. That strange familiar feeling, like they were meant to be in each other's arms.
As she dreamed, she dreamed of a throne, elaborate jewels and fabrics, and a warrior. A man meant to protect her as part of the family's army. A man who she fell in love with, against the wishes of her family.
Ruby hoped she would remember this dream in the morning. Every single detail.
Perhaps it could explain her magnetic draw to William. Perhaps, it could explain why, after turning down countless offers, she said yes to him. And she would say yes all over again.
