Demons can bleed
This is not a fact known by most Hunters.
Almost all hunters have ever known throughout history is that demons can't bleed. They aren't human enough to have the veins filled with life running through them.
Demons have extremely thick skin and are very durable. They are great punching bags for experienced hunters like Huntr/x, as we see on the plane. Toying with them a bit because there isn't any risk of getting blood on their clothes, and the only way of truly banishing them is using the celestial weapons.
Rumi is different because she is only half demon. It makes sense that she can bleed because of her human side, and through sparring and close calls, everyone is well aware that her blood is just as red as the rest of theirs.
It's not like hunters have a reason to ever test the limits either. They are there to make sure the demons are sent back to the demon realm and that they don't hurt anyone. That's it.
But what happens when that duty is no longer the priority? What happens when a hunter is given a reason to make a demon bleed?
A little over twenty years ago, a hunter answered that question.
You see, Celine and Soo-min were tolerant of Mi-yeong's baby daddy at best. They didn't try to kill him, and he didn't try to eat souls. That was the trade off. They could be in the same vicinity without trying to tear each other apart, but Mi-yeong still acted as a buffer.
But as the months passed, and Mi-yeong got closer to her due date, the girls learned to trust him. Just a bit. Because of how he acted around Mi-yeong, how gentle, how small he'd make himself and how much his hands would tremble every time he felt little Rumi kicking.
But he was not like Rumi. A demon free of Gwi-ma. He was like Jinu. Craving freedom, but ultimately chained to his tormentor. He wasn't selfish in the same way Jinu was, but he was weak willed. Which in this case, resulted in the same thing.
He gave up Mi-yeong's due-date to Gwi-ma.
This is what resulted in a horde of demons attacking when Mi-yeong was still weak from birth(birthing a half-demon child took a lot out of her body, so she was even weaker then she should have been).
Meaning it was only really Soo-min and Celine who were able to fight back. And they were supposed to be three. We see how much hunters can struggle when only one person is taken out of the equation.
The moment Celine is thrown through a window, glass piercing her skin and the ground harsh in her landing, they lost.
small cuts ignored, she physically feels it when Soo-min is struck down before she can even get back inside. A piece of her soul tearing out of her chest, because Soo-min will need it for the after-life.
It is now ice cold fear driving Celine forward, rushing into the room were Soo-min was fighting not seconds ago, slaying the demons remaining and trying not to look at the body on the floor as she fights to get past them and get to Mi-yeong and Rumi's barricaded room.
She is too slow, and feels another part of her soul ripping away from her along with the cut of scream from the room.
Still. nothing else matter besides getting to that room. Her soulmates are dead, but Rumi is screaming, so she is alive.
There are so many demons in that room, and Celine tears through them like they're paper, but she misses one, who takes a leap at the still crying baby.
It's intercepted by a man wearing the clothes of a Jeoseung Saja.
Celine wastes no time in slaying the straggler, before staring at the man. Pieces are connecting even before the man speaks, crying.
"I did not want this. I am so sorry."
He stands eye-level with her, his dark hair falling loose of the bun he kept it in(Mi-yeong knew what she liked lmao).
Celine has put it together.
So She tosses her blades back into the honmoon, and for an instant, the demon thinks he will simply be banished from the home, told to never show his face again.
But Celine had not only been given a reason. She had been given two.
The reasons were the corpses of the women she loved, laying in broken bleeding messes on the floor of their home. The home they had invited him into.
Because they forgave what he was. Forgot who he served.
She breaks her hand on his face.
Not because of improper technique, she could throw a perfect punch in her sleep. But because of how durable demons are. Their skin thicker than a rhinos.
That doesn't matter. She punches again, same hand.
Pain was irrelevant.
She had previously moved with nothing but cold fear. Now she was acting with nothing but white-hot rage.
But it was calm, calculated. Not like an inferno, instead like a controlled fire. Burning away forests to control the possible damage it could do if it was left to continue growing.
He tried to fight back, because he was a weak-willed coward. But Celine was a hunter. Every trick or ability that was supposed to give him an advantage only made him predictable to her.
She grabbed him and threw him through a damn wall when he tried to leap at her. Hurled a chair at him when he teleported.
Her hand was shattered, her shin splintering from the kick she gave him, foot cracking from another one. She was destroying her body trying to destroy his but it was working.
The heel he took to the face broke his nose, something purple trickling down his face. The knee he took to the gut fractured his ribs.
She was tired and already injured, so he did get a few licks in. A clawed swipe going from her shoulder to her sternum. A clawed grip piercing her side.
It didn't matter.
Celine didn't stop, and not once did she pull her weapons back out from the honmoon during this, not even to defend herself.
She needed him to know that being sent back to the demon realm to be killed by Gwi-ma was a mercy that she would not yet grant him.
He was the first one unable to fight back in the end.
Only after she caved part of his face in with the side of a cast iron skillet did she send him back to Gwi-ma.
Demons can bleed. Their blood is purple.
Only Celine knows.
She found it out the day she lost her soulmates and then accidentally smeared purple on Rumi's little cheek while trying to console her in the aftermath.
My personal and ideal take on Celine doomed Yuri situation was that Celine and Ryu did have something going on (not like an unrequited unilateral pining only by Celine part).
They had the flirting, the occasional hookup, the inside jokes, the heated looks, all that! BUT they never put a name nor a label on it. So it was a very vague, very complex situationship that neither had the courage to fully address what was going on. Like i >>genuinely<< believe that Ryu loved Celine. I think she was in love with her, it was not unrequited at all BUT it was the 80s/90s and addressing such thing was very dangerous to them (specially if the public found out) so they just. Ignored it (them after a makeout session: so anyways-)
Then Ryu (ALSO) falled in love with rumi's dad and everything just fucking exploded and went downhill from there.
Celine felt like she was being used emotionally by Ryu but still loved her so much so she stayed by her side even with all that while Ryu just wished she could've both of them at the same time!!
#repressionqueens 😘💅✨
I think the main difference between Mi-yeong and Rumi's dad and Rumi and Jinu are 2, probably:
1. Rumi and Jinu are each other's first and only love. Mi-yeong and Rumi's dad are each other's last love. Rumi spent her whole life hiding herself, never truly opening up to anyone and focusing on her duty as a hunter. Jinu was too busy starving and then suffering as a demon. Neither of them had the time or energy to have any romantic experience at all. Not even silly crushes. So they're doing anything for the first time and that's why they feel awkward at the beggining before getting comfortable. Mi-yeong and Rumi's father have had experienced romance before, but never in the intensity of their love for one another, but as they had previous experience, they're comfortable with each other right away.
2. Rumi is half demon and Jinu is full demon. Rumi's dad was full demon and Mi-yeong was full human. Because of that, Rumi's father and Mi-yeong had difficulties and faced challenges to build the sense of mutual understanding Rujinu has. Because Rumi helps Jinu remember and regain his humanity and Jinu helps Rumi cope with her demon side. While Mi-yeong and Rumi's dad took longer to achieve this understanding of each other because Rumi's dad might remember a little bit how to be a human, but Mi-yeong will never truly get his demon side, no matter how hard she tries, so all she's able to do is be there for him, which for Rumi's dad is more than enough, but because of it Rujinu can relate to one another, while Rumi's parents can.
Because of those two factors, it's tragic to think about how Rumi's parents are a reverse mirror to Rujinu. Rujinu are soulmates, meant to be. Meanwhile, Rumi's parents were never meant to be. But they still tried to defy all odds, that were all against them, expecting the outcome to be different, even though deep down they both knew they were doomed from the start. That's why I think there's a high possibility of Jinu coming back and Rumi and Jinu's bond to have a lot of parallels to the one of her parents. Rumi and Jinu are the Rumi's parents that made it until the end. Rumi's dad and Mi-yeong that worked. People might say, "it was a bold, original choice to kill the main lead". I would have agreed if it was the right choice. But it wasn't, as I have said why I think so many times before by now
KPDH but with the plot of Mamma Mia
Rumi is getting married and wants her other bio parent to be there.
However Mi-yeong doesn't know who it is and the options are between Celine(Trans in this au), Poppy(thirdlight, also trans) and Kwangsun(Demon daddy).
So Rumi invites all three hoping to figure it out.
Mi-yeong is having a mental crisis about seeing three different exs who are all staying at her small bed and breakfast in Jeju.
Saja boys are all either here for the wedding or are employees at the B&B
Can be polytrix or Rujinu, fuck it can be both
Mi-yeong can end up with Celine or Demon daddy or Thirdlight or all three.
Bobby is the manager of the B&B and the one who Mi-yeong is freaking out to.
Hope you enjoy this poorly edited meme that I made when I should've been working.
I'm just going to throw this out into the world because it rotates in my brain sometimes. Important note that never anywhere in the movie do they refer to Derpy and Sussie's gender, only ever referring to them as "The Tiger" and "The Bird", they're boys (I think) but that lack of reference is important for the au I'm about to suggest
What if the reason Celine never talks about what happened to Rumi's parents is because she doesn't know? She showed up following a honmoon distress signal of some kind only to find little infant Rumi alone. All attempts to contact Mi-yeong failed and they could only assume she was dead.
But she wasn't. What if the unification of demon and hunter scared Gwi-ma, and he used some kind of ancient magic or demon curse or something to curse Mi-yeong and her husband Kubo and the Two Strings style (minus the talking). What if Rumi's parents ARE the tiger and the magpie? Her mother being the magpie and her father the tiger. They lost not all but most of their memories, somehow coming into contact with Jinu and idk how that would all work but when they see Rumi, they don't really remember her but their souls do, and that's why they stick around her so much.
And then at some point there's a big reveal (to everybody really) and then they have to figure out how to break that curse and finally reunite the family and idk I'm just spitballing here.
