Jody: YES, WE KNOW YOU LOVE SAM!
ZR Sidestory / fanfic script / whatever you wanna call it
Okay guys, so I have this story thingie mainly inspired by songs so of course I'll link all for the appropriate moods. I came up w this just bc I love angst and dramatic turn of events.
The story is set somewhere between s3 and s4, but has no relation to canonical events, so you can read even if you're not that far in the story just yet.
The score - miracle
So, it starts with a new villain's introduction, who for some reason has it out for Five (haven't thought of the start that much, forgive me). Anyway, the point is that the villain lady frames five as a traitor (I know, original) and everyone but sam believes it, because it's that convincing. Or like, you know, the main squad as Jody and Owen are on the fence about it. And when all this gets out, Five has to make a run for it, but the villain corners her and shoots her, and Five falls back into a river (epic time). So everyone believes her to be dead. Sam is of course broken, and the entire townhsip is just shook from what happened. Janine keeps saying that she shouldn't have been trusted to begin with, Sam at first tries to find Five but since all the signs point toward her death, he gives up. He is completely useless for a few days from the loss, but then gets up and goes behind Janine's back to make Five a statue / memorial, and tries to stay strong to honor her memory. Maxine supports him all the way through and she is also one to refuse to believe that Five was a traitor.
Meanwhile, my fuckface of a Five is not dead, clearly. She got shot in the shoulder, and got pretty scarred on the face/everywhere, but she's alive. She was found by the edge of the river by a girl we'll now call Rachel. So she got Five to their own settlement, where she was unconscious for about a week. She's a troop tho, and literally too stubborn to die she literally just refuses to do so, so she then woke up, and took a day to process what had happened. Of course, the leader of the settlement, a guy visited her and told her what they knew. Somehow, they are all oblivious to who she is, and Five is fine with that, since she was framed and still believed to be a traitor.

Turns out the town's leader is a mansplaining bastard, who only lets guys be runners because "women wouldn't be able to handle the stress". And forbids them from being runners / training, bc they have other jobs to do like washing clothes and cooking, you know, stereotypical stuff. But since Five is all about running and that's when she thinks best, she always wakes up early (like 4am) to get some practice in, and at night too (after like 11pm til 1am, so my normal sleep schedule). Though she is fine being a cook for now. She is a bit restless, but she was betrayed by her most trusted people, so she doesn't plan on going back, and she settles in the town under the name of "Ghost" bc nobody knows who she is, and refuses to speak/sign/communicate in any form.
But some asshole guy from the runners team tells on her bc how dare she try to compete with the precious manly team of theirs. So the town leader and her have a huge argument, and the guy challenges her to a run / obstacle course and gives her a month to prep for it since "she needs some advantages". Five says a week will be well enough. So she gets a week. ~Que training montage~. Obviously she annihilates the town leader, breaking numerous course records and so on. So the town leader has no choice but to make her a runner, since all the other runner guys are literally begging for her to be on the team. She then learns new tricks and how to do hand to hand combat and basic street fight stuff from the guys.
No song this time but just note that this is a different atmosphere
A foggy afternoon, like a week later, they pick up a distress call from a runner not from the ir town (it's like 2 or so months after the "death" of Five) When Five hears the voice, she knows it's Owen. Apparently he got turned around in the fog, lost comms with Abel and was cornered by zombs. So five, the overprotective mother she is, runs out without permission to save Owen (of course wearing a mask bc she doesn't want to get recognized). They take Owen home the next day, meaning Five, the town leader guy, Rachel (the girl who found her and now also a runner) accompany him back to "make a friendship between the settlements). Five first refuses but Owen insists, since she saved his life.
Some japanese thing I have no idea how it's called
While there, a sudden mass of zombs appear on the horizon, and they go into alert mode to save all their runners. Sam is yelling at everyone to get back, when Five (who is in that room and was like frozen for a solid five minutes when she saw Sam again but said / did nothing to reveal herself) notices that Jody's in a tight spot. Sam tells Jody what to do and where to go but they lose comms. That instant, Five turns and runs to save her (again, without permission). The evil lady turns out to be with Jody as well, executing her plan that nobody but Five knows of. So she sprints out of Abel, Rachel following on the command of the town leader guy to bring her back. The other runners / runners in training from abel are all running to safety while these two run directly at danger. When Owen notices, he also runs after them. The 3 of them lose comms as well, and owen and rachel talk when owen sees something fly by. It's a piece of five's clothing. She is getting rid of the extra weighted clothes, until she's only in a tank top, leggings, and sneakers. When owen sees her without the mask, he tears up but runs faster to help. They reach jody and save her, but the villain bitch gets them and tries to shoot them down. Five tells the others that she can handle this and they run for it. When owen gets his comms back he tells sam to check the east side of the building cameras and microphones. Five is being held at gunpoint by the villain. Sam is tearing up bc five is alive, janine is like dat bish, until they hear the villain say "i made sure you're dead so nobody would stop this, how are you still alive?" Or sg that exposes that SHE is actually the bad guy. Five manages to knock her down and make a run for it, but the building is filled with zombs. Meanwhile the oblivious town leader guy keeps getting surprised how fast she can actually run, and saying that she won't make it out, they should let her die, but sam is like OH NO BITCH NOT AGAIN and turns on the speakers in the building and navigates five outta there. But it's not over, the herd of zombs made it there, so Five maneuvers through the undead army and slides into abel under the closing gates. Sam just then runs in and without a second of hesitation, they hug and it's lovely. The town leader guy tries to yell at five for running off but the people of abel silence him off with a "welcome home five" and "you're alive!" And so on. Maxine runs to check her out, Five is pretty ashamed of her facial scars (that's why she came up with the mask in the first place, and also to keep her incognito)
Epilogue: also no song
Five and sam talk stuff out while they look at five's statue and five is like "I really do have that ugly double chin, huh?" So yeah that's about it, hope you guys had fun!
Jody: Wait a minute. We don’t want to go TOWARDS the scary sound!
Five: We do. We always do.
Jody: That’s one thing I hate about us.
Five: Janine, in your professional opinion, how would I die?
Janine: Murder. Gangland style execution. We’d never find your head.
Five: That’s a shame.
Jody: And how would I die?
Janine: You’d die a heroic death, saving Abel from zoms. If you were salvageable your fellow runners would carry your body to the Forest of Fallen of Runners.
Sam: *slowly raises his hand*
Janine: You’d slip in a tub.
