Despite starting a new challenge where I was aiming to run six days a week I have hit my first hurdle.I am currently off injured and hating every god damn minute of it. I am frustrated as I had such a wonderful run yesterday and I am gaining my strength and loving being out there. But I know it is better to let it rest than to risk further injury.
What has really pissed me off is that I did nothing differently, I didn't run differently or change my routine at all. I was a little more dehydrated than usual after my run I guess as I saw those dehydration spots.
As I was running yesterday I developed cramp in my foot and thought I could run through it, I only managed another half a mile or so. Even walking on it would make the muscle spasm and this continued all day, it was fine when I was sat down but the pain was as soon as I started to move. I had to do two incredibly painful walks to and from work and it felt as though the whole side of my foot was seized up and I couldn't feel my little toe (though how much does anyone ever really feel their little toe?!). The pain seems to be at the base of my 5th metatarsal and the peroneous either longus or brevis tendon. So anyway, I put volatrol on it and rested it for about 12 hours.
Today the pain does not feel crampy at all but instead goes across the width of my foot starting from the base of my 5th metatarsal. It feels better, more tolerable to walk but a little difficult at first. I am trying to walk as normally as possible. Only thing is now a pain in my calf has appeared which makes me think I strained the tendon. I do hope it is nothing more serious and the problem will resolve with rest.. Anyone got any suggestions?
Going to rest today and hope I can run tomorrow. The air is so fresh it is killing me not being out there!
