Lambert, knocking on Ciri’s door at Kaer Morhen: 🎶Do you wanna hide a body?🎶
x @unaugmentedmonkeyscantfly
Fitz made a silent little “mmh” of confusion that could easily be mistaken for one of discomfort, but he didn’t move his arm out of the way. He wasn’t used to the stubble, itchy and always rubbing his cardigans weirdly, but his hands were nowhere near steady enough to shave, not to mention the fact that the splash of water if he tried wasn’t exactly a comfortable experience. But this? This gentle, idle touch was nice. He’d never had it before, not really, not like this. It was wonderful, the gentle heat of another person, the comforting weight of them, gentle touches to stimulate sensations, he could see why people craved it to the point of rudeness. “G…good.”
"Yeah?" Jemma found herself a bit breathless, not having expected Fitz to give any kind of vocal approval. It made her feel bolder; this was one way people tried to communicate their romantic feelings, wasn't it? Sure, the actions themselves could still be interpreted as friendly, which normally was also a source of confusion for her, but in this specific context it was different, because they had never exchanged cuddles, and it was happening after a love declaration. So she turned her head to press a kiss against his cheek, hoping it would say more, especially since she wasn't going anywhere.

It was usually Fitz the one who hit objects or throws them when in serious distress. She was more of a ‘pressing her hands against her neck or staying very still’ sort of person. But the thing kept beeping and for some reason it was like it did it right inside her brain, made her flinch every time, reminding her she hadn’t understood how it worked yet. So when she knocked it against the desk the first time in a fit of rage, Fitz and Mack who were there checking their own device looked up. “I can’t do it. I can’t do this, I don’t understand how it-” it beeped again and Jemma’s jaw clenched, with Mack’s surprisingly soothing voice and tone in her ears keeping her from losing it there and then as he told her it was okay, he could help her out too, but then her screwdriver hit the wrong spot and the stupid thing didn’t just zap her, which made her drop it on the floor; it started beeping continuously from there which was so much worse, and after a moment of frozen silence Jemma gave something that was between a punch and a shove at the computer screen in front of her, sending it flying off her own desk and to slam into the shelves of samples, and she stormed out.
She ran to hide into one of the secret basements so she could vent the unspeakable rage that she felt, with tears of frustration but mostly anger and sitting on the floor. She knew she had a problem, and trying to skip sleeping altogether wasn’t solving it. Nothing was solving it, she had thought Fitz getting better and them having a relationship would but it hadn’t at all, she was still a mess. They needed to talk about it, obviously. She pulled her phone out and simply texted him. [to: Boyfriend] can we talk? I calmed down, I’m going back to my bunk.

“Dark is what Fitz’s life is going to be when we come back, if he doesn’t change attitude. He’s on thin ice. And so is Mack. If he so much gives me a wrong look I might decide to do some opening up without waiting for him to be dead.” Mack obviously judged her for not telling the truth sooner despite being mad at Fitz for not telling her about Skye’s secret, as if the problem wasn’t why Fitz hadn’t told her anything. Whatever. She’s mad at almost all of them. “And I cannot believe there isn’t any beer in this safehouse. What are we, muppets? Good Lord.”

Jemma doesn't go after Skye right away; there is too much still unknown, so first she asks May about Lady Sif and the Kree, the details of it, and it gives a whole different meaning to everything that has happened to her in the past couple of months. It also means she has to tell the rest of the team because they are right, they are owed that. Even though she didn't say it because she was looking for a cure, doesn't know most of them, and thought she was affected by a temporary alien mutation that wasn't infectious at least until Raina showed up like that and Trip was-well, anyway. But she didn't hide it from Fitz because she thought Fitz would hurt her and that is something she'll deal with later. For now she only wants to talk to Skye.
So she goes to the Bus, the old cage. She wonders if Skye feels as horrible as she does, her skin constantly tingling and her lungs burning. And why is it that Skye can cause earthquakes and she can feels so aware of the air around her, causes wind? Sitting down in front of her, she shows Skye her tablet. There are three files in it, three different DNAs shown there, one with the label 'Skye' and last year's date, and two clearly showing macromolecoles and other not-human components. "This is yours, the real one, from last week," she murmurs, pointing at one of them. Then she points at the very similar one next to it, "... this is mine."

The fact that the agent sitting next to her holds her down right before the car crash tells her he’s Roxxon too. He comes out to speak to the others while she’s recovering from the shock, and she feels she’s bleeding from somewhere because a window shattered on her but she’s fine, her brain desperately trying to find a way out. And then in a split second of hope she shouldn’t have, she empties her gun, puts the bullets in her pocket, whispers “May, stay down, attack when Fitz is out of the line of fire”, and slips out so she might be able to keep the situation under control. Fitz and Bobbi were in the car behind them and are approaching, more Roxxon people are there too, and Jemma aims her weapon at Fitz’s face. Bobbi can handle the others; she has to make sure Fitz doesn’t get hurt.
“You are forcing my hand here, Fitzy. Did you really think I’d just walk back in a cell like a good girl, without having at the very least a gun pointed at my head every second of the journey there? Or did you think I’d care too much for you to hurt you?” her tone is mocking as she walks closer, and she can tell Bobbi would shoot her if she could. But the other Roxxon people distract the woman, instruct her to just leave, they aren’t going to kill them if they don’t have to - of course not, her mother might need them alive.

She hated it; she understood why they didn’t trust Kara, after all she was dating Ward, but what was the point of keeping in her a cell? If they were afraid she might hurt them over her personal connection with someone who had betrayed them and that they had tried to kill, why not send her away from the base, free her now that all traces of brainwashing were gone? Jemma was one of the least trusting people in SHIELD at this point, but Kara Palamas had been nothing but an outstanding agent before being captured, everything evil she had done was done with her being used as a weapon, not to be blamed for it, and she shouldn’t be locked up for it. Nor she’d expect her to go out and hurt innocents, especially since Ward himself wasn’t killing people out there and them joining forces again had no reason to lead to a slaughter. If people got locked up for potential evil, then she’d have been put in a cell too just weeks ago, when Fitz had told her her changes were the scary ones. Breaking Kara out would likely put her in a Ward-position, however, and Jemma could be wrong about her, she had been wrong about Ward - something that would always haunt her, every time she made a new friend, no matter how close - so anything was possible. It was driving her crazy.
“I kept track of him for a while... Not constantly. I’m not... going after him or anything like that anymore. He’s fine, he’s... behaving, not causing any problem, I think he’s also still going after Hydra like us... And if he left you here, well, that’s just proof he cares, and that SHIELD doesn’t have to worry about him coming after us again. That helps.” Before Kara could likely protest about him not having come after them, she added: “He kidnapped Skye, remember? To bring her to her father? But now everything is... calm. On that front. And you’ll see him soon, I’m doing my best to solve this... problem...” she gestured at the room, and folded her arms, “And have you out as soon as we can, but our little inhuman situation is turning out to be very distracting from all... superior officers, I guess, if you want to call that bunch of-the other faction of SHIELD that. And when you do, I’ll see if we can track him down, maybe Skye will give me a hand, so you can reunite with him.”
