Beauty in Pain
All my senses go quiet. Dozens of hands squeeze my heart to bursting and my vision blurs with tears. The rush of blood to my head deafens me but I do not need hearing to feast my eyes. And I FEAST, like a glutton in a buffet! Your faces holds a thousand words that I can’t be bothered to read. I don’t need to know the story to know how delicious your expression is.
Each sob is like a church bell at a wedding and I’m the bride! A thousand sorrows swirl within your glossy eyes while your mouth hangs open in a silent screech. I pray you do scream so I can memorize the agony that will claw its away from your throat.
Sing! Sing your sadness!
The utter defeat in your face almost sends me into a heart attack. I don’t dare to blink, less I forget this perfect moment and lose the masterpiece of your despair.
I want to lick the tears off your cheeks.
I want to memorialize the pure divinity of your suffering so all the world can know the beauty of pain.
The beauty of YOU.
now they're just being assholes
PAAAAIIIIN *laughs hysterically*
little girls are terrifying
I’m about 75% of the way through my reread of Rebecca and the list of people I ship the second Mrs. de Winter with grows ever longer. Spoilers?
Maxim--I mean, I guess it’s canon.
Rebecca--Probably even more canon than the thing with Maxim, to be honest. The sheer sensuality of her obsession with Rebecca’s things is breathtaking. The jealousy looks a lot like desire, I’m just saying.
Mrs. Danvers--obviously I ship Rebecca/Danny, and what about a replacement goldfish for a rebound? There are points (in Rebecca’s bedroom and even with putting the second Mrs de Winter into Rebecca’s Caroline costume) where the jealousy looks a lot like lust again. And wouldn’t it be more interesting?
Frank--I actually had to close the book and curl my toes in glee when she fantasizes about Maxim dying and Frank supporting her at the funeral. (Yeah, this is how I ship things in this book. You may notice I’m exceedingly lukewarm on Maxim as a person). Frank is the only guy Mrs de Winter seems to really enjoy herself around, the only person she genuinely enjoys having a human connection to, and happens to be the only person in the book with less of a sense of humor. It’s adorable. It’s just a pity the two of them are too damn uptight to have an affair behind Maxim’s back. I’m rooting for you kids.
Beatrice--Bee is such a sweetheart, maybe she and Giles have room for a third.
The lady in peach at the costume ball who keeps smiling at her: hell yeah
The Bishop’s wife who keeps proposing a costume ball: da’awww clearly she’s enthusiastic to see the cute new lady at Manderly in a flattering costume.
Crossover ships:
Jane Eyre: I don’t know if I mean romantically or just an intense mentoring session on how to grow a backbone. Wait, I do mean romantically. Leave the weird husbands alone with the skeletons in their closets/attics/sunken boats.
NGL, I like the suggestion that after the, uh, house-burning and all, Maxim is a broken man in a similar way to Mr Rochester after *his* house-burning, and in both cases their wives step up as the stronger figure in the partnership.
I, uh, also harbor an AU where Mrs de Winter avenges Rebecca on her murderer husband with acts of delicate and exacting sadism for the rest of his life. I’m not so sure she does keep those articles on the English countryside so secret after all.
Thomas Sharpe: he and Mrs de Winter can swap tips on enabling murderers.
Gotta admit he's a kinky sunovabitch, though.
