Time to Load the Boat by Timo ☘ Via Flickr: I have sailed keelboats, sailing dinghies, canoes and kayaks, and have to say that nothing beats the magnificient experience of sailing a small open boat where you sit close to the magical surface of the water, hearing just the sounds of wind and water. This is a Wayfarer Mk1, a reflectection of the golden era of the class. It's big enough for our family of five to have a day trip and stable enough to sail safely even in a strong breeze.

Man, cleaning is hard, in some circumstances, like a sailing dinghy, that's not balanced on the trailer, when all the water flows to the front, and dirt settles in due to the grip texture.

After 4 different stores, we finally found the weird tire size for our sailing dinghy trailer.

You see, the tire popped not 5 minutes down the road from where we got it, and we had to trailer the trailer another hour home.

Hopefully we can fix it and take it up to the marina.

These pictures come from something I own, rather than something I found online. Usually I have to research things, but occasionally I can use something of my own, and it's so much more convenient being able to hold the item at whatever angle needed!

The first three photos show a beautiful model sailing ship, which was built by my great-uncle Arthur. My family visited him once, when I was a teenager, and I spent the whole visit poring over his gorgeous model, since I was very much into boats and sailing at the time, and not terribly interested in whatever the adults were talking about. I was amazed and touched to find out, a few years later, that he had taken the time to bequeath the model ship to me in his will. It was a very kind gesture to a family member he barely knew. And it has been not only a lovely heirloom but also an incredibly useful reference.

The other boat in the last two photos is my own sailing dinghy, which has shown up repeatedly in my comics. It's rather too big to move around on my table, but on the other hand, I know it almost as well as Uncle Arthur must have known his model by the time he'd finished building it. I have my own reservations about "write what you know" as writing advice, but it comes in very handy to add flavour to a world without much effort needed for research :)
