Sometimes the only way I can get myself to draw is for stuff where it's like, "Who else is gonna give you fanart for the crack ship Hatake Sakumo x Orochimaru? Characters who never met in person but who you got obsessed with for a week after reading #1 fanfic? Who will nourish me but myself?"

After returning from his mission to heart-wrenching news, Sakumo chases his traitorous mate down only to find they have a new hunt to embark on together, one that sends them running straight back to Konoha - with their son's life in the balance.

Brought back from the Pure Lands via an emergency pre-prepared Edo Tensei he left to safeguard his village, Tobirama is Very Displeased when the supposed threat is made clear to him.

Despite his newly-increased distaste and distrust of Konoha, Orochimaru accepts some new responsibilities to his village - secondary to reaffirming his devotion to his family.

(A very large, moody snake . . . meets Danzo. It may or may not upset his digestion.)

2. ✸Branch - 58k - Danzo offers Orochimaru a steady supply of children no one will miss as test subjects. Orochimaru sees potential in them for more than that.

In which Orochimaru builds his own version of ROOT, because he needed a librarian. And cooks. And someone to clean. And some lab assistants. Featuring copious amounts of purple eyeshadow.

Then Hatake Sakumo interrupts Orochimarus brooding.

Or: Orochimaru uses human resources responsibly, stumbles into a relationship with Hatake Sakumo, gathers political allies and works on taking down the current government.

3. ✸with friends like these - 1k - If she isn’t utterly mistaken, there's a flush rising in Orochimaru’s pale cheeks, one she only ever used to see when Jiraiya was being especially handsy during their genin days. It’s been a long time since Orochimaru got over that particular crush, and Tsunade stares at him now, at the averted eyes and rising color and aggrieved slant to his mouth, and feels glee bubbling up inside of her.

“Really?” she says, delighted. “Who?”

4. ✸Where wolves keep watch - 159k - On the battlefield, Sakumo finds Orochimaru standing alone—fighting to the last breath for comrades who call him a monster. Refusing to let him die forgotten, Sakumo brings him home, and in the quiet after war, healing turns into something more: family, love, and the promise that neither will ever be alone again.

5. ✸A snake in the grass, a wolf at the door - 56k - Orochimaru is on the edge of breaking when someone unexpected pulls him back to solid ground. When the time comes, he returns the favor.

6. ✸Like glitter and gold (i've got fire in my soul) - 7k - “Photokinetic,” Orochimaru repeats, eyes narrowing faintly at the White Fang. If he’s dealing with an idiot, he’ll—well. Be polite, because the man did save him, and Jiraiya will be insufferable if he makes his hero-rescuer cry (again).

To his surprise, however, it’s not offense overtaking the hero’s face, but glee.

7. ✸Lone Cub - 14k -

Orochimaru finds young Hatake hunting alone deep in the woods of Hi no Kuni, and learns upon questioning him that his father is gravely ill or worse. Kakashi, convinced Orochimaru is his mother, is relieved to lead him right to their camp to offer assistance.

8. ✸A clean slate, with your own face on - 17k -

Fugaku doesn’t know how it happened, why it happened or who, precisely, is to blame, but he knows it started when the Hatake heir, all of three years old at the time, decided to become a detective. Everything else snowballed from there.

How Detective Inspector Uchiha Fugaku kept his head firmly down, worked his cases, minded his business, and changed the course of the Elemental Nations for the better.

9. ✸Kaleidoscope Heart - 1k -

“Sensei, who is that?” Anko demands, leveling a finger at Sakumo. For all her earlier enthusiasm, those pale brown eyes are almost unnervingly sharp, and Sakumo has to resist the urge to take a step back. “And why is he in your bedroom?”

She’s probably sixteen. There's no way that question isn’t a setup, Sakumo thinks. And beyond that, she calls Orochimaru sensei the way any other child would say mom or dad. Sakumo isn’t entirely sure he’s prepared for where this conversation is going.

10. ✸I'm flexible - 932 - It’s not his proudest moment, but Sakumo takes one look at the newest occupant of the gym and walks into a wall.

“Thank you for finding him, Orochimaru-sama. He’s going through a bit of a biting phase.”

The Sannin looked at him with faint amusement and moved his hair aside to show tiny bite marks on his neck.

“Of that, I am well aware. Perhaps the puppy needs a little more training before setting him on unsuspecting shinobi, hm? He was trying to sneak into Sarutobi-sensei’s office and managed to bite the ANBU on guard without them noticing.”

12. ✸Hi Mama - 1k -

Looking down, Orochimaru saw the top of spiky silver hair, connected to the body of a little boy dressed in a black training suit. He came up to below waist height.

“Mama,” the voice said again, but this time it was coming from the boy attached to his legs.

✸a surprising visit - 3k - 'Suddenly, there’s a knock on his door. He opens the door and is greeted by the surprising sight of Sakumo and Kakashi Hatake.' 'Kakashi shouts, “Mama!” The little boy leans forward out of Sakumo’s arms towards Orochimaru.'

Half the school is in love with Hatake Sakumo; Orochimaru included, much to his friends' incredulity.

Sakumo just wants to know more about the adorably shy little androgyne stalking him.

Orochimaru is a bit more than he expected.

16. ✸Mama's office - 1k - A few days in Kakashi's perspective, growing up playing underfoot in Mama's office, bounced between active duty parents, watched over by the same devoted summons that are his playmates.

17. ✸Babysitting and a new family - 4k - Jiraiya had one job to not get baby Hatake killed while his father was on a mission. In a way he does succeed by pushing him off to a certain snake friend of his. He thinks he did mighty fine thank you very much, now if only either of them saw it the same way as him.

18. ✸Kintsugi - 16k - Orochimaru has been a soldier long enough to recognize the look of one who has given up on living. The White Fang’s blade is chakra-coated, never poisoned, yet here he is in Orochimaru’s favorite apothecary perusing the more deadly concoctions. He looks confused.

“I’d be happy to direct you to a more painless route to your demise, dear Hatake-san."
