sam nightingale fabian seacaster deeply tethered in the sense that whenever zelda & gorgug broke up i think they both were very emotionally supportive and there for their friend while also having clearly & openly thought the whole time that zelda/gorgug could’ve done better. also they’re both rich popular bards with talking vehicles who got left alone in their big house at the beginning of a school year so there’s that.

i never stop thinking about sam nightingale, who's sharp and always on the defensive, and zelda donovan, who's soft spoken and always trying to make herself small, and how they each see something to admire in the other. how zelda does jump to the defense of other people. how sam would never admit that sometimes she wants to be protected, but zelda will do it unasked and she'll be a one-person army doing it. how protective sam is over zelda's right to be quiet when she wants to be. how their temperaments match, because while sam's edges can hurt zelda, there's nothing zelda understands better than an outburst you have only so much control over...

Has anyone thought about Sam and Ragh as friends? Or maybe not friends but they’re very in each other’s orbit and very parallel to one another. Like they both loved their best friends so much to the point of toxicity/self-destruction and they were both saved by their new friends from that pit and he’s the bully jock and she’s the mean girl and they weren’t friends before but they both would have been the third wheels together. Them and Penelope and Dayne squeezed into a booth at Basrar’s with the couple sharing a milkshake and Sam and Ragh trying not to acknowledge it, trying not to think about why it hurts, thinking about the spot where their thighs are touching and that’s enough, that can be enough, except he’s looking at her and she’s looking at him and Sam and Ragh can’t make eye contact because it’s just a mirror. And now they’re better, they’ve gotten better, he’s out and proud and she’s safe and healthy, but Sam loves Zelda, and Ragh loves Gorgug, and they’re back at the booth trying so hard not to feel like they’re backsliding. And they just want their best friends to be happy, and it’s hard not to think that they could make them happier. But maybe this time they’re brave enough to look up at one another and see theirselves, brave enough to have a friend who understands them.
