The Reef Light and Leviathan
~💙~
a/n: this is not specifically targeted for any CoD character, use your imagination I just wanted to write about my favorite monster and if it’s inaccurate I don’t care. Also I based on his off subnatica a lot cause why not it was and still is my BIGGEST hear me out when it comes to leviathans (Also I’ve forgot to save this so much that it kept getting deleted so if it’s ass I apologize)
You were the princess of the reef, a beautiful royal. One’s of the reef saw you as a goddess destined to find a lover of their kind. Would it be something tame like a butterfly fish, chill like a sea turtle, or something more dangerous? Like a manta ray or a shark of variation?
Slipping away from the reef one day, it was time to do some exploration. Which consisted of you venturing to the very bottom of the ocean, desperate to see what’s out there. Why the reef feared the deep.
Swimming against the currents of pressure and little light if any, you finally touched the ground. You saw the usual suspects, sea cucumbers, amphipods, marine worms, shrimp, microorganisms, and finally the snailfish.
You sat there, watching the hybrid fish of many shapes and sizes swim through the dark. Then you heard a rumble deep enough to make the sea floor quiver. Every fish fled, they knew what was coming.
You felt your blood run cold, stomach dropping to your feet. Heart pounding like it was in a drumming competition, palms drenched in sweat.
A giant eye ball opened, it had to be one-hundred-and-fifty feet. Golden eyes with vertical beaded pupils. Then its whole body lit up, it was similar to an eel, but its head was at least three-hundred feet alone. A gargantuan leviathan.
Black scales and many asteroid sized limbs attached to its head, he wasn’t a hybrid like you. He was pure sea monster.
His growl ran through you, he took you in with a scrutinizing glance. “Reef-light. You don’t belong here, your scales shine like the sun. It hurts to even look at you. You’re gonna end up swallowed whole when one of my kind finds you.” His voice was a rumble, one of wisdom and surprising care for those less fortunate. But don’t get him wrong, he could still eat you in one bite if he wanted to.
You stood there in awe, too fascinated by him to say anything. Floating there as if you were a dead fish. “Reef-light?”
“You’re so cool.”
Surprise flickered through his gaze. “I could rip the flesh from your bones before you could even blink.”
That didn’t stop you from grinning ear to ear, you finally found what everyone was so afraid of! And he didn’t even seem that bad! Or maybe you were just too dumb to see he was baring his dagger-like teeth as if you were his prey.
“So, Mr.Leviathan. Sir. May I ask, wait— I don’t even know what to ask I’m so excited.”
He snorted, the bubbles shooting from his snout. “You’re awful excited to be tangling yourself in with death.”
“Yeah, yeah, but can I touch you? Your scales seem so cool, mine are soft yours look like they’re made of rubber or metal almost!”
He tilted his head with a jerk of stunned silence. “What…?”
“Can I touch you?”
He hesitated before baring one of the smooth limbs attached to his body, it wasn’t a tentacle on a kraken but it had some rough scales in square patches for grabbing things out of the water quickly.
You run your hands over it, feeling the calloused scales in a unique pattern. You couldn’t help but let out a estatic giggle before that he took it back.
“It’s best you go, Reef-light.” A frown appeared on your face, but you knew better than arguing with someone older than the earth itself. Swimming away with a sigh, but you knew you would be back tomorrow.
Just like that, in the same place you last saw him.
“Mr.Leviathan!” You waited and waited for what felt like forever until you heard a distant sound, his rumble. Your face lit up. He slowly made his way over, with a look of anger. And begrudging amusement.
“I thought I told you to stay awa—“ “I brought you a sea cucumber. They’re my favorite food.”
You held it up to him like the micro-morsel of food would satisfy his hunger. “Thank you, Reef-light.”
He plucked it with one of his limbs, swallowing it without even a second thought.
And this process repeated for a while, you brought him food, you talked to him, he made you leave.
Until, one day he brought you some food. A courting gift!
“Woah, I’ve never seen this type of fish before! He looks so stupid. But in a cute way.” It was a marine hatchetfish.
“I thought, you would like some real meat. It’s small, like you. Since you can’t eat the whale sharks that I go out of my way to hunt in the light.” He said light as if it pained him, and it most likely did.
You took a tentative bite of the fish. A moment of schooled expression on your face from practiced ease at Royal Announcements. “Oh…it’s…very chewy.”
“Yes.” He watched you with adoration, as if that someone was finally paying attention to him. Seeing him as this normal fish instead of a sea monster. He watched you finish off the bones, then he wrapped you in one of his limbs.
“What are you doing?” “Taking you with me.”
Surprise flickered over your face, it clicked, it was a courting gift. Blush flushed your cheeks and sweat across your forehead. A breathless laugh escaping you.
“Let’s see how well you can stretch, little Reef-Light.”
