van gogh: where is your go-to positive place when you’re feeling down/sad and what do you usually do?
Honestly, it’s probably just my apartment or my childhood home and just watching tv or movies that I like. Or reading. Or watching youtube. Basically, any sort of distraction.
klee: in a library full of books, which five will you never get sick of rereading?
Oh, here we goooo. Obvs, this won’t be all because five is just not enoughhh
Harry Potter (whole series, but if we’re talking just one book, probably GoF (PoA is my fave, but GoF is a close second and having a longer one to reread would be preferable, personally))
Pride and Prejudice (which I have read four times at this point...and counting)
The Spiderwick Chronics (wonderful children’s/middle grade fantasy that I will still happily read to this day)
Just Listen by Sarah Dessen (which I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve read it...probably 3 or 4 now?)
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman (because dragons, man)
Hey! I saw that you said you're always open for Friends prompts, so I thought I'd give you a few because I can't remember all the ones you've done. "The One with All the Thanksgivings", "The One with the Jellyfish", "The One with the Ball", or "The One with the Cake". I hope you haven't done all of these and that you have fun with them! <3
the one with the cake!

“Allison,it’s been hours, can we please go?”
“In aminute, I just want you to say something for Leila’s birthday message,” Allisonsettles opposite Stiles and Derek, gives them both a bright smile; neither ofthem return it. “For goodness sake, there will be time for other trips; youguys are acting like toddlers.”
“Wedon’t have time for other trips,” Stiles says through his teeth. “We bookedthis six months ago, and it was the first weekend we had available.”
“Doyou know how many times we’ve been to the museum for a function Scott’s been incharge of since? Eleven times, Allison.”
“It’snot my fault he’s passionate about his work, guys. And, you two were late tovisit our new born daughter because you were having sex in a janitor’s closet!”
“Look,it was an emotional day for all of us, and Derek was all… He just looked happyand excited, and you know I can’t resist that, okay? You know that! It wasn’tmy fault.”
“It’snot like we’ve had the chance to have sex since,” Derek adds sourly. “Seeing aswe’ve been on babysitting duty permanently.”
“And,we’re here, now, waiting for this party to finish.”
“Whichyou promised us it would, six hours ago.”
“Therewas an issue with the cake! Because of the place you recommended, Stiles,” Allison tosses her hair back, glares athim, “Thanks for the heads up on what sort of bakery it was, by the way, I wentin totally clueless.”
“Hey,if I wanna take a sexy picture of myself and stick on a cake for my man, I’mnot going to feel guilty. Derek loves his cake.”
“Ididn’t need to see the thing right there waiting to be picked up, too.”
“Youwere going! It seemed pointless to make two trips! I refuse to feel bad fortrying to keep the magic in my sex life alive. You lost out, anyway, with me onthat frosting; should see Derek on acake.”
“Derekis sitting right here,” Derek moans in a mortified voice.
“Nobodycares about your weird cake fetish,” Allison dismisses easily, opening up thecamera, “Now, say something sweet and heartfelt to my daughter, for herbirthday.”
“HiLeila, happy eighteenth birthday!” Stiles says in a flat voice, “I’m talking toyou using technology you’ll have never even heard of! Because your mom’s acrazy person that thinks you won’t be using an iPhone and letting Apple dictateyour entire life by the year twenty twenty. I’m your uncle Stiles.”
“And,I’m Derek.”
BothStiles and Derek give short, abrupt waves to the camera. They turn to look atone another, and Stiles nudges his shoulder gently against Derek’s. Derek’sglare (the one he’s not lost all day) softens for a brief moment, and then theyboth return their gaze to the camera and scowl.
Stilestilts his head to one side and gives a wistful smile. “You’re probably confusedabout who we are, as we haven’t seen or spoken to your parents in seventeen years. We used to live withthem, laugh, love, share moments, but then! They took away our chance at havingone tiny moment to ourselves. Theyknew we had plans for a romantic weekend away; they’d heard me book the hotel;they’d seen Derek write up the itinerary and start to plan our suitcasepacking; they knew.”
“Wedidn’t do it on purpose,” Allison intervenes, turning the camera on herself,“Sweetie, your mom and dad can’t help it if they just wanted the whole familyhere for your birthday, no matter how moody and cross they are about it.”
“Thebirthday you won’t even remember,” Derek cuts in, “And, in case your parentsforget to tell you this in the years to come; we weren’t being selfish aboutthis. We planned to stay for your party, and then leave afterwards.”
“Derek’sa planner, Leila,” Stiles gives Derek a fond look and then snaps back to thecamera, “But, you won’t know that, because we’re not friends with themanymore.”
“Theydon’t even get Christmas cookies.”
“And,Derek’s Christmas cookies are to die for; you’re missing out, kid,” Stiles tapshis chin, “If you’re suddenly craving cookies, send us a sign; a message in thesky maybe! And, we’ll mail you some in secret— don’t tell your dad— he’s notallowed any.”
Derekarches an eyebrow at Stiles, “Wow, withholding baking privileges from your bestfriend, this is serious.”
“I am serious, babe!” Stiles criesvehemently, gestures at the camera, “Look, Leila, you’re a great baby, okay?Really, I like you a lot; and, you sort of make the whole idea of having kidsslightly less…. Terrifying. I mean, before your uncle Derek I was a freakingmess with commitment. I didn’t even have a house plant, or make weekend plans!”
“That’sbecause the only people you make plans with live with you or across the hallfrom you,” Derek murmurs.
“Besidesthe point, dear. I was giving you acompliment? About how much you changedme and made me want to be a better man and committo you?”
Derekhides his face for a moment, resurfaces with pink cheeks and bright eyes.
“Ieven figured hey! Kids! How scary can that be? This is sort of easy. Maybe minewon’t be that bad; I can’t screw them up too much if they got half of Derek inthem, he likes me , they might, too. And, that Leila’s pretty cute; and she’sgot awful parents.”
“Stiles!”
“Yousaid I should speak from the heart, Allison; well, this is it!” Stiles pointsat the camera again, “Your parents? They took away our weekend trip. Now, thatmight not seem like a lot. You might be judging us; hell, I’d be judging us.But, I promise we needed it. We’restretched thin, Leila. And, we’re not petty people.”
“We’rereally not,” Derek agrees.
“Wegive to charity; we go to the endless, boring lectures your dad does.”
“You’veprobably had to see a few; you know the type we’re talking about.”
“Thebones and the fossils.”
“Theevenings spent making small talk, with people.”
“Derekhates small talk, Leila. And people.”
“Ido. I hate people. Except you,” Derek leans into Stiles, squeezes his hand, “Idon’t hate you.”
“That’sright, at least… You didn’t,” Stiles gives the camera a stern look as he twineshis fingers through Derek’s. “But, that all changed. We…” he gives anexaggerated sigh, “We changed.”
“We just wanted a weekend away. We needed thattime together. He’s a cop,” Derek thumbs his free hand at Stiles. “He saveslives, protects people, he’s the best at it. And, sometimes he brings it homewith him; it keeps him up at night. He needed a break.”
“And,this guy?” Stiles throws his arm over Derek’s knees, still holding his hand.“Works his ass off, kid. We both do, and it means we have so little time together. We have to reconnect every night. And, dowe get time for that? With the people coming and going in our apartment, demanding Derek feed them, that we help them move couches with the pivoting andthe lifting and the sliding, that I listen to them rantabout being on a break, not on a break—”
Allisonclears her throat, narrowing her eyes at both of them.
“We’renot jerks, okay? We’re happy to be good friends, and sure, your parents have beenokay friends, too. They’ve maybe helped us get through a couple of issues.”
“Gettingyou to the alter,” Allison coughs into her hand, and Stiles flushes, not sosubtly flips her off.
Derekquirks an eyebrow at him, “Did someone have to shove you out onto the floor?”
“No,you know, I told you! I panicked about letting you down; you should be withsomeone awesome; you said I was awesome; we had amazing sex in the cloakroom atthe reception.”
“Stiles!”
“Relax;we can edit that bit out.”
“I’mnot showing my daughter any of this.”
“Thenwhat’s the point of us still talking to you?!”
“Soyou can say something nice to Leila on her eighteenth birthday, especially,” Allison adds with grittedteeth, “If it’s the first words she’s going to hear from you in seventeenyears.”
Stilesshoots her an amused grin, waves his hands in the air, “Fine; you want somewords of wisdom, kid? It’s all about the love. Find someone you love, someoneyou trust enough to keep a jellyfish story to themselves and never judges youfor your crazy fear of dogs and lock them down. Tell them the truth; thatyou’re a total loser—”
“My daughter is not a loser, Stiles!”
“Not Leila, this is obviously about me, duh! I’m the loser. But, I was the one lucky enough... Find someone that makes you feel lucky you love them. They make you feel lucky. Then get overyour chicken shit issues and marry their fine ass.”
“Exactly,”Derek dead pans in agreement, “Marry their fine ass.”
Stilespreens, elbows Derek, “See, Leila? You need someone that’s got your back. Youneed a whole lot of friends, like platonic friends that you maybe once had acrush on for a day or burst in on in the shower, once—”
Derekclears his throat as Allison groans, starts miming at Stiles to wrap it up.
Herolls his eyes at her, gives the camera a meaningful look, “You should marrysomeone you’d call your friend, too. Derek’s one of my best friends. He onceput a turkey on his head to make me laugh.”
“Ohgod,” Derek murmurs.
“We’rein love,” Stiles points between them,“Just in case you think we weren’t capable of such emotion considering we’rebitching about being at a child’s birthday party. I don’t care that Derek can’thelp but get competitive about everything; even trying to race me up thestairs, or to finish brushing his teeth first.”
“Thatis not my fault, you take forever.”
“Dentalhygiene is important! You have cleaning stuff for your cleaning stuff! Wouldyou want to kiss me if I had bad breath? If you knew I hadn’t taken the time tofloss?”
“Ialways want to kiss you.”
“Wanted,” Stiles points at the cameraagain, “This is all past tense, kiddo. Because, we didn’t get a chance toreconnect; we didn’t get that time to ourselves. I forgot what it felt like tospend the night, by myself with myhusband, because of you!”
Allisonsighs and snaps the camera shut, “Guys!”
“Wehaven’t had sex in months,” Derek huffs, “How do you expect us to be cheerful.”
“You’renever cheerful,” she snaps back, “Iwas just hoping for a little effort on my daughter’s first birthday.”
“Allison, babe,” Stiles clicks his tongue, “We’ve been here all day. What else do youwant from us?”
“Ourblood, our will to live, our marriage,”Derek mutters.
Allisonclears her throat, and Derek rolls his eyes, folds his arms, “What? I’msupposed to be getting laid; not leaving ridiculous messages for a teenagerthat won’t even watch this.”
“Derek!”Allison cries shrilly, “This is important! And, don’t say things like that onthe birthday message.”
“Itmight be the last time I ever say it,or have it,” he adds darkly. “Leila will probably be having—”
“Alright, fine! I give up.” Allison stands and throws the camera at Stiles. He catchesit, even as he’s laughing and looking at Derek fondly.
Allisonstalks over to where Scott’s messing with the birthday cake for Leila, sendingthem both a glower over her shoulder and much more subtly flipping them off asshe smiles brightly at Scott.
“Shit,”Derek sighs, rubbing his face as he sits back on the couch. “Were we just majorassholes?”
“Maybe,”Stiles squishes his finger and thumb together, “Just a smidge.”
“Theybrought a clown,” Derek waves in thedirection of the clown; currently trying to hit on an unimpressed Erica. “Scottknows I hate clowns; you can’t see their faces! You don’t know what they’rethinking.”
“Weall know what that guy’s thinking,” Stiles snickers, as the clown leans closerin to Erica, staring at her cleavage.
Ericashoves the clown’s face away from her, dusts off her hands, “Can we please dothe cake? I have a date, later and I plan on getting lucky.”
“Someoneshould,” Stiles mutters darkly.
Dereksnorts, sits back on the couch to shove up close to Stiles and rest his chin onStiles’ shoulder.
Allisonrolls her eyes at them, “Even when you’re mad you’re both smug and gross.”
Leilarolls over Derek’s feet, waves her hands in the air in a silent demand to bepicked up. Derek scoops her up in his arms, rests her on his lap.
“Youwill never be as bad as them, will you?”
“Hellno,” Stiles leans over to run a hand through her soft hair, “We’ll teach you;we’ll make sure you’re awesome, and cool.”
“Becauseyou’re the epitome of cool,” Derek says drily.
“Hey,I won you over, didn’t I?” Stiles knocks their knees together, winks at Leila,“I was so smooth with him; talked about him being beautiful and smart and boom, five years later he was hooked.”
Dereksnorts, tugs Leila in closer.
“Iwant one,” Stiles confesses, still rubbing his hand over Leila’s hair, twirlinga piece of it between his fingers.
Derekhums, shoots him a look, “I know; me too.”
“Iknow you do, jeez,” Stiles beams at him, “You’ve had that on broadcast for tenyears.”
Derekpunches him on the shoulder with his free hand, “Dick.”
“Hey,speaking of,” Stiles jerks his head over to his old bedroom; the one Lydia’scurrently storing her coats and handbags in. “We could slip in there, maybe Icould give you a special birthday present.”
“Well, when you put it so charmingly, how can I resist.”
“I’mpretty sure that’s exactly what you said when we first hooked up,” Stileswiggles his eyebrows at Derek, “You’re still falling for the old Stilinskicharm, baby, and you know it.”
“Ido,” Derek agrees easily.
Stilesgoes still, gives him a warm look before he bites his lip, “Are we gonna beokay? I know we’ve stayed, and that was the right thing to do, but… you andme. We really… We never get time; we never have moments, anymore.”
Derekshrugs, quirks a smile at him, “I think we’re having one, right now.”
“Ugh,”Stiles pretends to push his hand in Derek’s face, melts into him when Derekgrabs his fingers and kisses them quickly. “You’re gross, we’re gross.”
“Allison,”Derek waves his sister in law over, points at the abandoned camera, “Let’s getthis over with, quickly.”
“That’swhat he said,” Stiles mutters.
Derekelbows him, hard.
“Ahhhhheyagain eighteen year old Leila!” Stiles throws his arm over Derek’s shoulders, waves at the camera. “You know us as your uncle Stiles and uncle Derek, theawesome ones that live next door.”
“Wedon’t live next door,” Derek corrects quickly, “I love my brother, but I don’tget much time with my husband as it is, and if he lived next door to your dad;I’d never see him.”
“Nonsense,I’d come home after game night, lil’ drunk, feel you up a lil’ bit.”
Allisonsighs, “Are you serious?”
“Oh,like she doesn’t see this stuff from us all the time,” Stiles rolls his eyes, winks at the camera, “You get it, kid. You’ve seen the love. You’re surroundedby it, all the time I bet, and I hope you know how important you are to yourparents, to all of us. You make usvery happy, and we just want to wish you the happiest of birthdays.”
“And,many happy years to come,” Derek adds.
“Forall of us,” Stiles continues.
“Forever.”
“Right.”
“Uhhuh.”
“Exactly,sugar.”
“Don’tcall me sugar on tape.”
“Okay.”
Allisonlowers the camera, “Are you guys fighting over who gets the last word, here?”
“No!”
“Yes.”
Derekstands abruptly, hands Leila to Allison, “We’ve stayed, we’ve had a semi reasonable time, although nextyear, if Scott hires a clown, I won’t’ even come in the door, I mean it.”
“I’llmake him come,” Stiles promises, standing and plastering himself up behindDerek, “But, right now, we’re leaving, yes?”
Dereknods vehemently, “We are, and we’re not available for the rest of the night.”
“Ortomorrow,” Stiles points at Allison, “Derek will not be making brunch! He willnot be making lunch, or dinner, or even supper! He will be making sweet loveto—”
“Seeyou on Monday,” Derek interrupts, grabbing Stiles’ hand and hauling him towardsthe door. “Stop hitting on her,” he tells the clown as they exit, “And, get areal job.”
“Hedoesn’t mean that,” Stiles says quickly, “Follow your dreams! I’m followingmine, see?” He points at Derek as they’re leaving, “See what I did there?Scotty! See you Monday!”
“Dude!I thought we were playing COD tomorrow night?”
“Nope!”Derek shuts the door on the damn clown and the misshapen cake and his annoying, awesome friends and kicks open their ownapartment door. “I’m putting my foot down,” he tells Stiles.
“Ilove it,” Stiles yanks off his sweater, locks the door just as Derek presseshim up against it, “Let’s make this atradition.”
“LeavingLeila’s birthday parties early to have sex?” Derek scrunches up his nose,“Seems a little unfair.”
“Imeant let’s leave all parties early,”Stiles tugs at Derek’s shirt, and Derek lifts his arms obligingly to help. “Allthe dumb lectures and fashions shows and those stupid foreign film showings Boyd loves. We leave them all, early, for us time.”
“Deal,”Derek grins.
“Besides,”Stiles maneuvers Derek onto the couch, straddles him with familiar ease, “In acouple of years we can always use the babysitter excuse.”
“What,that we’re babysitting?”
“Nope,we have to go home and let the babysitter go.”
“We’realready terrible parents.”
Stilesbeams, “The kids’ll understand when they’re older.”

Leiladoes watch the tape, with Scott complaining in the background that his brotherand his best friend are too busy making googly eyes at one another to sayanything heartfelt. Stiles shrugs from where he’s sitting next to Derek on thecouch, digs into his piece of birthday cake as their own kids groan inembarrassment when the Stiles and Derek on screen smile at one another; themessage is pretty clear; they’re awesome friends, they have awesome friends, they love Leila, and they’re gross and inlove, shit happens, they’re just treasuring the moment.
i wanna see your animal side / let it all out / i wanna see the dirt / under your skin
are you deranged like me? / are you strange like me? / lighting matches just to swallow up the flame like me? / do you call yourself a fucking hurricane like me?
all we fall from the sky when we hear the sound / go on for miles but won’t hit the ground / don’t be afraid they can’t catch us now
when the air ran out and we both started running wild / the sky fell down / what a feeling to be a king beside you, somehow
high blood drumming on your skin, it’s so tight / you feel my heat, i’m just a moment behind
what caused the wound? / how large the teeth? / i saw new eyes were watching me
bring your love baby i could bring my shame / bring the drugs baby i could bring my pain / i got my scars right here
used to dream of outer space but now they’re laughing at our face / wish we could turn back time, to the good ol’ days
oh the prettiest of lights that hang the hallways of the home / and the cries from the strangers out at night / they don’t keep us up at night
you can try to push it down / but it’s always going to follow you / because it only takes a spark
you sure ain’t the alpha, you ain’t no omega / careful who you run with / watch your pack
for all the things that you’re alive to feel / just let the pain remind you hearts can heal
outside the dawn is breaking / but inside in the dark i’m aching to be free
our time had a home / in your heart was a place / but the glass always breaks
just once if i have the chance, the things i would do to you / i send shivers up and down your spine
look into this mirror tell me / what do you see? / beautiful can’t begin to describe you / or what you mean to me
too late to sell back the lies and the dreams that you were sold / so sick of your crooked smile and your counterfeit soul
i taste like magic, waves that swallow quick and deep / fifty words for murder and i’m every one of them
we are young, we are free / like renegades, like james dean
don’t want to lose you, like i did my mind / we’re feeling older it seems / i’m running out of my dreams
i fell in love with a beautiful boy / and you still take my breath away
hazel eyes, i was so color blind / we were just wasting time / for my whole life / we never crossed the line / only friends in my mind
we claw and we fall / and we doubt along the way / we’ve been misunderstood / it hurts with this fear and pain
in the middle of the night when the wolves come out / headed straight for your heart like a bullet in the dark
if i didn’t go, i could leave today / california dreamin’ on such a winter’s day
like a river flows / surely to the sea / darling so we go / some things were meant to be / take my hand, take my whole life too
the darkest night never felt so bright with you by my side / i got one foot in the golden life, one foot in the gutter
