Respect for the Scholars: Mu'āwiyah stood up and said, "Where are your scholars? Where are your scholars?" Ibn 'Asākir: "The flesh of the scholars is poison.."
NEW: Respect for the Scholars: Mu'āwiyah stood up and said, "Where are your scholars? Where are your scholars?" And Ibn 'Asākir: "The flesh of the scholars is poison.."
In a time when the status, rank and honour of the scholars of Sunnah and Salafiyyah is being maligned and attacked by callers to bid’ah and misguidance (and more-so in recent months by some misguided souls in the USA), it is appropriate that we make mention of some important narrations and scholarly sayings regarding this crucial subject. One should be in no doubt that those who revile, speak ill…

NEW: Who are the true Ghurabā (the Strangers) in these times? "Islam began as something strange, and it will return to being strange just as it began..."
Part 1: All Praise is due to Allāh, we praise Him, seek His aid and His Forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allāh from the evils of our souls and the evils of our actions. Whomsoever Allāh guides there is none to misguide and whomsoever Allāh misguides there is none to guide. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allāh alone, without any partners and I bear witness that Muhammad…

[The following is a summary of an extremely beneficial portion of a highly beneficial advice the shaikh gave a few years ago]

The letter to Qaseem [part1]...
Shaykh Al-Islaam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhaab rahimahullaah said in his treatise to the people of Qaseem (Najd, Saudi Arabia) when they asked him about his creed (beliefs): Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem. I call upon Allaah as a witness, the angels that are present and I call upon you as a witness that I believe that which the saved sect believes, the people of the sunnah and congregation (Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa'ah) [1]. Explanation: [1] his statement: "I call upon Allaah as a witness, the angels that are present and I call upon you" it is as if though it is taken from the statement of Allaah the Most High "Allah bears witness that La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), and the angels, and those having knowledge (also give this witness)..."[Aal Imraan:18] So he is calling Allaah, the angels, and the scholars as witnesses to his beliefs, and that he did not come with something new or with a change in the religion of Allaah as it is said about him (by the people of misguidance) rather he came with the explicit truth "and Allaah is sufficient as a witness" [An-Nisaa:79]. and his statement: "that I believe that which the saved sect believes". The saved sect is the one with regards to which the Prophet sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam said in the Hadith which informs about the splitting of the ummah and the steadfastness of this sect upon the truth: "This ummah will split into seventy three sects, all of them in the fire except one" they (sahaba) said: 'who are they?' He said: "Those that are upon what I and my companions are upon today". [Tirmidhi]. It is called the saved sect because it is saved from the fire. All the sects are in the fire except this sect. It is saved from the fire. And these are it's characteristics; Firstly: that it is saved from the fire. Secondly: that they are people of the sunnah, those that take from the sunnah. And it is the way of the messenger sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam, it is the Quraan and the authentic ahadith, that which the messenger sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam was upon, as he said: "Those that are upon what I and my companions are upon today". And they do not take from the madh'hab of the Jahmiyyah, the Mu'tazila, the Khawaarij or other than them from the sects. Rather they only take from the methodology of the people of the sunnah, those that stick to the sunnah. Thirdly: "Jamaa'ah" (congregation/unity). They are named with Jama'ah. Because they unite upon the truth, there is no differing between them. They do not differ in their aqeedah (beliefs). their beliefs are one. Even if they differ in issues of fiqh (jurisprudence) those of the derived branches. Differing in fiqh does not harm because it is a result of ijtihaad (a scholar working diligently to come to the correct judgement in an issue of fiqh). And ijtihaad differs, people are not of the same level in ijtihaad. As for aqeedah (beliefs), ijtihaad (judgement) is not accepted in it because it is tawqeefiyyah (needs proof from the Quraan and sunnah). Rather it is incumbent upon them to be one congregation, Allaah the Most High said: "And verily! This your religion (of Islamic Monotheism) is one religion, and I am your Lord, so keep your duty to Me. But they (men) have broken their religion among them into sects, each group rejoicing in its belief." [Mu'minoon:52-53] Those that differed were dispraised and censored. Because differing in aqeedah (beliefs) is not permissible. So Allaah ordered them to be one nation but they disobeyed Him. "But they (men) have broken their religion among them into zubr". Zubr: Meaning books (see Tafsir Tabari), as it was explained Qataadah and Mujaahid. Every one had a book with him, every one had a aqeedah (set of beliefs) with him, and the aqeedah of this one would differ to the aqeedah of this one "each group rejoicing in its belief." each one would see itself as being upon the truth and other than it being upon falsehood. They don't say "let us return to the book of Allaah and the sunnah of his messenger sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam" as Allaah the Most High said: " (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam), if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day..." [An-Nisaa:59] Rather each one of them (these sects) says "I am upon the truth alone, convinced and satisfied with that which is with me". Rather being fanatical to each sect, and not deeming that it's statement is subject to being incorrect and correct. Taken from: "The letter of Imaam Muhammad Abdul Wahhaab to the people Qaseem when they asked him about his beliefs". Explanation of: Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan.
