Nature has the best patterns, don’t you think?🐸| Repost @joelsartore | Though limon giant glass frogs like this one at @ZooATL are the largest of their related species, they actually only reach about 3.7 cm in length. They require humid environments and are extremely difficult to spot among the dense vegetation of Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia. They have extensively webbed toes, prominent nostrils, and grey, forward facing eyes with horizontal pupils and black reticulations. Since the invasion of the chytrid fungus in Central America, this and many other amphibian species populations have begun to decline. Nat Geo marks Endangered Species Day displaying stunning Photo Ark images

For many of Earth’s creatures, time is running out. That’s why on May 19, Endangered Species Day, the National Geographic Society and the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA), the national trade association for the out of home (OOH) advertising industry, launched a groundbreaking OOH campaign aimed at saving species at risk in the wild. The campaign’s key message is: “See what we can #SaveTogether before it’s too late.”

Featuring stunning images from the National Geographic Photo Ark, the campaign sounds the alarm for the conservation of wildlife and their habitats. Following the digital OOH launch of the campaign in Times Square and other major U.S. cities today, the #SaveTogether campaign will continue throughout the summer on donated billboards and other OOH formats across the country.

Founded by National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore, the Photo Ark aims to document every species currently living in the world’s zoos and wildlife sanctuaries, inspire action through education, and help save wildlife by supporting on-the-ground conservation efforts. Sartore has photographed more than 6,500 species so far on his quest to create the National Geographic Photo Ark. Once completed, the Photo Ark will serve as an important record of each animal’s existence and a powerful testament to the importance of saving species.

Sartore’s breathtaking portraits inspire people to care about these animals and to take action while there’s still time to protect them. (National Geographic)

This eagle is most commonly found in the Amazonian forests of Brazil and Peru and is considered one of most powerful birds in the the Americas. Their hind talons are the largest of any living eagle, reaching 3-4 inches long-- the same size as a grizzly bear’s claw. These birds are carnivorous and prey on tree dwelling mammals like monkeys and sloths. Although the harpy eagle is currently listed as near threatened on the IUCN Red List and exist in reasonable numbers today, their habitat is steadily disappearing and this species will not survive if the rate of deforestation in the Amazon does not slow down. Why spiders should be cared for.. insect populations that could otherwise devastate crops. Spiders are air-breathing arthropods, the largest order of arachnids with eight legs and two body parts, no wings or antennae and are not able to chew. By mistake people think spiders as with more than 45000 known species worldwide, spiders are commonly mistaken to be an insect and harmful to human, where as vast majority of spiders are harmless.  Spiders serves an important purpose to regulate insect populations that could otherwise devastate crops. Carnivorous, spiders either trap flies and other insects in their webs, or hunt their prey. They feed on it by injecting it with digestive fluids, then suck the fluids out of it.
