Fake Net Neutrality bills and Strongly Worded Letters
Sooo while we’re still calling for that last vote on the CRA act. There’s another positive action that we can take. Also, yes I know we may not get that last vote in time this coming Mon, but it’ll be a long while before you start to see any changes on the internet, so before then, prepare yourself for another fight. We have time to plan our next move. (Check out my previous posts under the “net neutrality” tag on this blog to see what else you can do.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ve made a point of some of these in previous posts but I wanted to clarify some things.
Some States have taken this opportunity to pass Net Neutrality bills of their own to defy the FCC, and that’s really good. Real good. But some states, like South Carolina have very faulty ones. By faulty, I mean with enough loopholes to get Telecom corps to bypass. We have to keep those States in mind and spread the word and support them since all or most of their reps are already bought out because again, I stress it’s important that we all stick together and help out.
If those states, like South Carolina, passes those fake Net Neutrality bills, what’s stopping other states from trying to do the same thing?? Research your reps carefully, and take time to do some research on your States proposed Net Neutrality bill. Ask if you need help. The more we get well-written Net Neutrality laws, the better. And take the time to do some shout-outs to spread the word for States trying to get their own Net Neutrality passed and States trying to fight their fake Net Neutrality laws. Whether it’s by whatever we have left online, you writing a report about it, or if you’re just telling a friend. Anything to get the word out. Don’t let yourselves be censored. Everyone is in the same boat, if you were in their situation wouldn’t you want others to help out?
Shout out to Colorado, Hawaii, Montana, Indiana, and I think Missouri for being the next States to give their own Net Neutrality laws! *CLAPS* (If I’m missing anyone, do let me know.)
And shout out to South Carolina again, Sen. Lindsey Graham, Governor Henry McMaster, and Attorney General Alan Wilson, were all bought off by telecom corps. They got an awful Net Neutrality bill...
(The first link is South Carolina’s Net Neutrality bill, if your States Net Neutrality bill looks like this, take note of this bill and of Marsha Blackburn’s fake Net Neutrality bill. Don’t fall for it.)

(The last link is about Gov. Henry McMasters slandering students for a peaceful protest of the Parkland shooting. While it may not have anything to do with Net Neutrality, it shows you the kind of character this man has.)
(Credit goes to @empressreborn for providing me links and @timeclonemike for his deconstruction of South Carolina’s fake Net Neutrality bill. )
If you have proof that your reps were bought off; provide their names, office numbers, and links to those proofs and spread the word. It can be links about an invasion of your privacy or links that they are against Net Neutrality. We want to make them look bad and pressure them. But please don’t threaten their families and make sure those links are credible. We want to win this war without any potential room for repercussions.

Of course, some of you are probably thinking, “This wouldn’t be an issue if we just get the CRA act passed and win Net Neutrality for all, right?” well, that seems to be what Evan Greer from FFTF and BFTN seems to be doing. I’m not slandering these groups. By all means, we should still support them for helping us win back Net Neutrality. But they aren’t focused on the threats of fake Net Neutrality bills since their hands are tied at the moment. So what to do?
1) We need to prepare for the worst. We need to step up ourselves and not expect them to do all the work for us. Continue to shout out other States and lend a hand to States facing fake Net Neutrality bills. But still attempt to email FFTF and similar non-profit groups and ask them to help out your State just to have more people know what’s going on.
2) Even if we do win Net Neutrality for all, it’s important to remember the people that sold you out, they’re still out there walking scotch-free. They’re still in that position of power that supposedly “represents“ you. So remember these bastards and vote them out in November. All of them. Don’t be lazy and forget to do it just because you think your life is over without free internet. If you let them get re-elected, they could very well be bought off again and target this time your-oh say-cell phone service or something.
Miguel Santiago in negotiations to fix SB 822!
So I guess we might be getting California net neutrality back after all! Come on, let's go and explain to him exactly how much we want it back and what we think of him gutting it - although do try and be polite, so he listens and everything. Remember, SB 822 could help restore net neutrality across America, and remember to tell him that if he wants to keep his position, he'd better do what his constituents want.

California’s Net Neutrality Bill headed to New York!
I’m a bit late on this news because of finals lol, but on the bright side, the same bill that ISP’s feared from CA SB-822 is making its way to New York. Let’s support it there and have it make its way to every other state! It would be a strong statement to Congress that we know what the hell we’re talking about when we say that we want Net Neutrality to stay. And I’m on board for whatever ISP’s are scared off.
In the meantime, our best bet right now is to vote out all the politicians who are against Net Neutrality, (so keep it a hot topic, even after the “official” repeal on June 11 or whenever that’ll be since Pai keeps pushing the date back. Go sign up for a voters registration if you haven’t yet.) And there are other things we can do too, like raising awareness for fake Net Neutrality bills and keeping track of the politicians who sold us out to big telecoms.
(Also for those of you in CA, call 916-823-9612 and ask your Senate to vote YES on the SB 822. It passed all the major preliminaries so all it has to do now is to vote YES to be passed.)
At this point, I’ll be posting and updating whatever else we can do. Let’s keep Net Neutrality a hot topic. It’s not over even after June 11.
URGENT: Call to save SB 822!
[Timestamp: 2:51 PM San Francisco Time August 20th, 2018]
We all thought SB 822 was down for the count thanks to Miguel Santiago, but it turns out it's not yet. Thanks to massive public outcry, the bill is heading back to be voted on, and we need to let our representatives know how we're not going to look kindly on them election day if they don't pass the bill as is. If you don't know, SB 822 is the most comprehensive net neutrality bill in the country, and will set precedent for other states passing similar ones. This could be a huge victory (and Lord, do we need one) if we just call right now or, if you can't call, reblog so those who can see this message.
I know we're all tired, but this fight isn't over yet. Let's get one over on 45 - imagine his face when every state in the Union passes a net neutrality bill. Call, fight, and don't let the bastards get you down.

Advocates look to Golden State to help preserve equal playing field on the internet after FCC dumped Obama-era rules
In uncertain times, one state has realized that the repeal of net neutrality has given potentially unfettered power to internet service providers. California, a blue state, has agreed upon legislation that aggressively promotes the continuation of net neutrality. Senator Scott Weiner’s (D), came under fire when major items were removed. These provisions, requiring data to be equally distributed at the point of initial entry into the network, rather than internally with the company. The second “zero rating,” which bans providers from restricting specific data to a cap, which would drastically limits the available data once it reaches that cap. The pricing for a higher tiered service would drastically affect start up companies, online businesses, and customers, that rely on an open internet. This bill is hopefully the beginning of a domino effect, moving from state to state, placing pressure on service providers, and the three branches, to re-address the ruling on net neutrality.
The CA net neutrality bill SB 822 is dead in the water
Good fucking riddance. I advise you all to try and find a local ISP that supports net neutrality (there are some out there!) or join a mesh network if you're able to.
For future reference, the at&t lobbyist in question who fucked up our chances was Miguel Santiago.
Hey so, this one man, Miguel Santiago, is all that is standing in the way of California getting net neutrality back. Let’s call him and yell at him to pass SB 822 until his ears bleed - and we have to do it quick because the vote is happening June 20th, today, probably within an hour of this being posted.
Number is (916) 319-2053. If you can’t call, pass this on to someone who can.
