Cross legged and alone, Hel hunched herself over a stray flower. It bloomed unnaturally in a realm that could not nourish it. She had not found it nor brought it with her, but conjured it from the earth. This gift was new. Not long nurtured and not entirely in her control. Life and death and were not things easily brought to the surface, even for their embodiment. The deadling held her palms flat against the ground at the plants’ base and willed it to grow. The only lovely thing in her sight since she’d arrived. In light of footsteps towards her, she grew fearful and the flower wilted before her, crumbling upon it’s own stem. She looked up to find Eadgyth standing before her. Bewildered, Hel hurriedly rose to her feet, hiding what little was left of the flower beneath her boots. The last people who knew of her gifts had seen them as monstrous, used it to reason she belonged in this place, this prison. She would not risk another finding her out too.
