Scene 10

Previously: Lestrade goes to get Sherlock from Musgrave Hall {x}

“Damn!” Gregory heard his master exclaim and longed to go see, but kept to his task of polishing Master Sherlock’s shoes.

“Good Heavens!” the next exclamation made him relinquish his task and go take a peek.

Mycroft was perched on a ladder attempting to reach the top of a bookcase and having tugged at a bundle of papers, was now covered in dust, the papers scattered all over the floor.

“You find it amusing?” Mycroft’s sarcastic remark drove the smile from Gregory’s face, who promptly replied, “No, sir.”

“Well, come here and help me get down. I can’t see the bloody rungs clearly.”

Gregory wondered how his master had seen him smile then, but dared not ask.

Rushing to his master’s aide, he gently held one hand while his master gingerly put one foot at a time on each rung till he reached the floor.

“Don’t wipe your eyes sir,” Gregory held his hand that had fished out the handkerchief. “The dust will go into them. I’ll help you to your room. You need to wash them,” Gregory spoke as he guided his blinded master slowly up the stairs.

Int. Study - Day

Frau Gabor sits at a desk. She reads aloud as she writes a letter.

FRAU GABOR: 

Dear Herr Stiefel­ 

(Thinks again)

 Moritz, I've spent the entire day thinking about your note. Truly, it touched me, it did, that you'd think of me as a friend. Of course, I was saddened to hear that your exams came off rather less well than you'd hoped, and that you will not be promoted, come fall. 

Int. Bedroom - Night

Moritz, in his room, is reading the letter

(voice over)

And yet, I must say straight away, that fleeing to America is hardly the solution. And even if it were, I cannot provide the money you request.

Moritz throws down the letter. He begins to pack a bag.

MORITZ:

Uh-huh . .. uh-huh ... uh-huh ... well, fine.

Not like it's even worth the time.

But still, you know, you wanted more.

Moritz’s last day. The boys jeer at him.

MORITZ AND HANSCHEN:

Matters of Life and Death, Scene 10

after having owned this book for 8-9 years (!) I am finally reading cursed child for the first time. I really dreaded reading this from year to year - first bc I always slightly disliked the dh epilogue (as opposed to a good epilogue that includes a battle of hogwarts debrief in the form of a big speech that makes us all cry, not a huge flash forward into a time where "all was well" while both harry and the readers are still grieving half of the characters in this series but whatever), then bc the reviews were very bad, then bc the fantastic beasts movies were a bit meh and last but not least bc of jkr's gross transphobic statements. after that I kind of forgot about it, but I've recently wanted to reread the series so bad and realized that I still hadn't read cursed child so I challenged myself to read it first before doing a reread.

despite still thinking that a play is not the best medium for this story as it feels very rushed and staccato (and not something jkr is good at - this should've been a short story on pottermore, I loved those rip), it's actually better than I thought. I think the premise is pretty interesting and I'm already quite hooked although scorpius casually mentioning that he might be voldemort's son is pretty wild imo. I think the characters are quite fleshed out, I especially like albus (I also picture him exactly like edmund from narnia and as you know I loved that guy), even though some feel very similar to the og ones. like rose basically has hermione's lines from ps and is just slightly more bitchy. james jr is basically james sr etc. I somehow don't mind though? only delphi is 1:1 tonks which is a poor choice I think - bc her death is still fresh, y'know :( (not in my headcanon, but you don't need to know that)

what I noticed however and which I don't know how to feel about yet, is that the pairings albus/scorpius and rose/scorpius seem to mirror their parents' most popular non canon ship. so harry/draco and hermione/draco. I wonder if jkr wanted to do fan service for them or - this is a wild guess though - she even copied some of the ideas from fanfiction? anyway, it's really strange to me as I never shipped these two ships, but I guess the fandom got the second generation canon now (albeit ambigious as I don't think albus and scorpius end up together and idk if rose and scorpius do).
