final notes —
every it-girl/person is always prepared no matter where they go, and that means even to school! be that person that’s always got everything on-hand. it’s always better be over-prepared than have those “dang it, i left it at home” moments!
I have been working my ass off at both my jobs and my classes, but life feels really great right now. I have two weeks left of the semester, so I’m wrapping up on final projects and papers, and have a bunch of presentations, an outline of which is above
According to where you are studying, there is a big chance starting now you will have Online Courses, which for most of us is a new experience. In my case, during the 2020/2021 school year my courses will have half of the classes Online and the other half In-Person. For this reason, I have thought a lot about how I will be
Organizing My 2020 Fall Semester
During the past two years, my laptop (a 2015 Macbook Air) has been the main device I use for University. This is not changing now, but I will be changing how I keep my files and the methods I use in class. Allow me to explain how:
I am lucky I am allowed to bring my laptop into class, so I have always used it to type whatever I need to retain, as handwriting is not as productive and fast for me. These are the programs, websites and others I use:
I will be using OneNote to keep all my notes I take from class. Until now, however, I used Microsoft Word. During these past few months I have discovered that many people use OneNote and I really enjoy how it allows me to create a different tab for each lesson and it is also easy to separate my courses without losing the synchronisation between devices. I might do a post about how I will do it in the future.
I like downloading all the documents the professors provide in the online platform. I keep those files, which are usually pdf’s, in my iCloud and Google Drive. Once a week I also backup any notes I have taken in class, which I will explain in another post.
Lately, I have started using Notion. I use it as an online planner where I can have all the information for all my classes, such as the professor’s information, the syllabus, my marks and what we do each week in class. It will allow me to be more organized and know where everything is.
I also enjoy handwriting some things, as well as storing the printed materials my professors give in class. These are what I use to physically organize:
A thin ring binder. The most classic way of storing pieces of paper. I got mine off my local stationery store. I added some separators so that I can create a “folder” for each course and its theory and practice classes. I will not be bringing this binder with me to university, instead I will have a plastic folder where I can put everything that it’s given to me. This way, the papers I bring with me will not get ruined and at the same time I will not need to carry so much weight.
A simple notebook that I use as a planner. I write there my to-do’s and everything related to university that does not have a place in my laptop. Again, I will not be taking it to In-Person classes, as I can type on my computer any important information (such as assignments or ideas) and later copy them to the notebook.
These are the products and programs I will be using this next semester. We are living weird times and each day we learn more about this new situation. If you have any suggestions about what should I also use or if you would like to ask me anything, you can let me know here.
