Once again: Rose Tyler didn’t start the Sarah Jane conflict. Rose is far from some perfect person. She’s meant to represent the same type of flaws most people have. And yes, she got jealous. But was her jealousy unfounded? Absolutely not. Neither was Sarah Jane’s. But Sarah Jane started the conflict. Rose had no idea about the Doctor’s past friends or what his relationship to Sarah Jane was. EVERYONE in a situation like that would have a moment of jealousy. And then Sarah Jane began the conflict by making a remark about Rose being his assistant as if she wasn’t even there. Sarah Jane also has a valid reason to feel like she had been replaced. But expressed it badly. Rose defended herself throughout the episode. And then they resolved their conflict. Laughed together. And Rose initiated the invite for Sarah Jane to rejoin the TARDIS.
People love to take this interaction out of context to make Rose look bad and honestly I don’t get it.
Also, a post tagged Rose Tyler that is criticizing her in a selective and unfair way by not including the full picture, IS a post that opens itself up to debate. It was tagged so that Rose Tyler fans would see it. if I am a crazy fan for believing that, then so be it. But I am honestly sick of the whole Sarah Jane interaction being the whole grail of reasons to dunk on Rose Tyler when she wasn’t even the one who started the whole thing. And definitely was not the most “in the wrong” in the interaction. Rose Tyler fans aren’t the only ones who will pushback against negative posts about her in her tag. I haven’t seen a single DW character whose fans won’t defend them if you post negative things about them in their own main tag.
I love Sarah Jane. And she did a great job joining in the resolution of the conflict. But pinning this one on Rose is ridiculous. I’m starting to think the amount of posts about this has changed people’s actual memories about the episode if they don’t rewatch it a lot.
