What a new proposed rule from OMB could mean, and how you can help
Dr. Liz Marnik, PhD, explains how you can fight a proposed OMB rule that would destabilize the funding system for scientific research, enable political appointees to decide which science gets funded, and muzzle science communication.
Ah yes, the Trump administration: where cutting scientific research funding was less about budgets and more about “Harvard bad, MAGA good.”
Nearly $3 billion worth of grants—poof, gone—because apparently the cure for cancer should be funded by GoFundMe.
Harvard fought back, and today a Boston judge basically said: “Nice try, but no. That’s not how federal law works.”
Translation: the government doesn’t get to pull billions out of universities just to score political points.
Imagine setting science back a decade just to keep a grudge alive. Peak 2016–2020 energy.
23 may 2026 // saturday
today i am one fifth of the way through my ochem course. i finished the first two chapters (17 and 18) and did the first self test this morning. i scored 66% on the first try, closed book. i feel kind of bad about it because i've been working so hard but i'm also trying to remind myself that is triple what i accomplished winter semester (yes, it went that badly). all i can do is keep working hard and keep moving. i finished 19.1 and tomorrow i'll start the background readings i need to do for 19.2.
work is going so well. i was really nervous this week because i had to submit my research protocol but my supervisor told me it was really good work and she was impressed!!! and multiple people have said i have so many skills. 🥹 honestly this praise is healing my inner child who was convinced he was never good enough no matter what (but possible because i have done so much therapy since then to allow myself to accept and believe it).
hard work pays off. i have to keep working hard.

Anyone else remember and adore Peep and the Big Wide World?
If not, watch some of it.
Anyway. They are funded by the NSF. As is a shit tonne of research and other science communication from and in the US. Pay attention to this shit.
NSF has awarded almost 50% fewer grants since Trump took office
