Scoretober Single Prompt!!!
Here's the second option for Scoretober: one (more substantial) prompt for the entire month. I'm not gonna paste the entire text into the text of this post cause it's actually legible on the image, unlike the daily prompts.
If you missed the posts with the info or the daily prompts, they're on my blog right before this post.
Good luck with Scoretober and have fun!!!
Scoretober, long prompt: abandoned mansions
title: hollow halls
instrumentation: a lot of strings and probably more col legno than anyone wants to play
let me be real with you guys, probably 80% of this was written today and this is still very much a draft as far as I’m concerned. but it has an idea, a beginning, middle, end, melody, harmony, bass line, and even some nice decorations, and if I do decide to update this, you’ll be the first to know!
I have been making a concerted effort to change my writing process from paper, pencil, and Finale to keyboard and DAW. for this one, it was still hard to not have all the harmonies clearly visible, but I finally feel like it reflects my normal writing style.
thanks to @composing-prompts for getting me writing frequently for my own sake again!
here’s a visual overview. I intentionally left out a lot of middle range notes to get a more empty sound
Scoretober Day II, I present you, “Autumn Leaves.” As a child, chord progressions of major seventh chords always reminded me of autumn, (probably reminiscent of the Jazz in the Charlie Brown cartoons) and I am so delighted to use it in this piece. The oboe and piano compliment each other in ascending and descending arpeggios, such as the autumn leaves in the wind.
(I apologize for the percussive shaker sound, I did not realize it would be in the audio. I thought my computer was just acting funny!)
day 4 of scoretober!
prompt: compose a piece about pumpkin spice lattes and your opinion of them
ive never had a pumpkin spice latte but i do sometimes put pumpkin spice in chocolate cake when i make it so i wrote about that. the fugue(ish) part is the “normal” cake and the sax is the pumpkin spice that gives it some extra flavor. wound up sounding a little spookier than i meant to but ah well. Also for some reason the sax part wouldn't go back to the key of eb so the notes written are concert pitch
Scoretober day 1 - Compose a piece that sounds spooky but is in a major key
So reddit’s composers are doing a scoretober for 2020 and the day 1 theme is autumn leaves. You can say it inspired me right away but i fear I may have been more about the concept of my piece than its composition. Plus I can’t resist mixing rock instruments with classical or electronic sound, here it is both.
Officially announcing Scoretober!
Scoretober is a month-long challenge throughout the month of October where you can choose to either do the daily prompts for the challenge or do the single prompt, which will be a much more substantial piece than anything you would write for the daily prompts, but it's just one prompt for the entire month. More information will be posted about this on September 24th, and the prompts will be posted on the 25th! Please reblog this so we can get as many people participating as possible!
