How bad of a writer do you have to be to go against your own writing?

Will needs to accept himself before getting into a relationship and Nancy needs to break up with Jonathan to be independent despite being one of, if not the most, independent character(s) in the show, but Jane could kiss a boy a week after escaping a lab and have a boyfriend before she even knew what she liked?

Mleven being potrayed as "love at first sight" when Mike literally wanted to send her to a mental asylum when he found her and keep looking for Will! And I don't think Janes first thought when she saw Mike was "yes, I'm in love with that man" .

Have Jane say Mike understands her "better than anyone" despite their entire arc is season 4 being how they don't understand each other, "I know what it's like" "no you don't"<- an actual interaction between them.

In season 4 Robin has an entire arc with thinking Vickie doesn't like her back, but she actually does, and not assuming someones sexuality, just for her to witness Mike giving one mixed signal (while being flustered as hell btw) and decides he's straight? And they had to use the lesbian for that? This isn't shade to Robin, I could never hate her, this is shade to the writers (yes chatgpt you too, especially you, fuck you)

They set the thing up where you need to get over your Tammy and find you Vickie, but then Robin and Vickie breaks up? That wouldn't have happened if it was a straight couple, I'm just saying...

For the entire season, Mike talks about leaving Hawkins with the ENTIRE party, but then suddenly in the epilogue it was just him and Jane…?

A show about friendships but they clearly priotize romantic relationships. The party is seperated for every single season, Janes death is all about Mike (misogynistic btw), Nancy and Jonathan have no one but each other until season 4 and suddenly all Max needs to escape Camazotz is Lucas despite also needing her friends the previous season.

They have a "screw conformity" speech like they didn't just queerbait their target audience...

A show about outcasts but it was all made for the ga...

The good Netflix documentary

Not One Last Adventure but Behind the Curtain: Stranger Things, The Last Shadow

For anyone suffering with #conformitygate doubt, I would implore you to check out this documentary, if you have it in your region. It follows Kate Trefry and the theatre world getting The First Shadow to the stage in London. Let's just say that, if season 5, as is, is the best we get, no one is going to be more devastated than her. I just don't believe it. Neither will you, when you see an exchange between her and the Duffer bros that tell you season 5 is already written (and this is autumn 2023, before filming started). This is will remind you of why we love this show. I hope you enjoy it. I haven't seen the *other* documentary. I've watched this one twice already.

i saw myself in eleven. she was always wrong, always different. she had a tough childhood, but tried to live normal teen years. she commited su1cide, because it's "the only way to stop the cycle of abuse".

i saw myself in will. he was always told he was wrong, even his dad called him names. he never got a stable comming out, never even confessed to mike proberly, and was forced not to be in love.

i saw myself in robin. she had a great character arc of comming out to steve and stop masking, but after that, she didn't matter anymore. she got a girlfriend who just magically disapeared, she helped will, but that was all she was in this season. she were used.

i saw myself in eddie. he was a freak, but not a quit kid, and he spoke up against whats wrong. he died, but as someone everyone hates, dustins icon, while learning new people. he died for everyone, and everyone hates him.

but mostly, i saw myself in mike. he's the funny friend, the gamemaster, the writer. but the poet never gets his happy end, he can't write his own future. he was stupid, he was funny, he was the main character with rage problems. and he never got to explore, never got to know will still liked him, he never got to live his life as he wanted to. mike wheeler is forever tied to the grief of eleven and the guilt of being who he wanted to.

I just finished stranger things for the first time and hot take: I think the ending was good.

Sure it wasn’t perfect, but the show was so good in general that it would have been almost impossible to live up to everyone’s expectations.

In general, I think they wrapped up a lot of things very nicely.

Of course, the one thing I didn’t love is how Dustin’s whole speech is about not conforming to society and then they seem to conform to society. It seems as though they are saying all of their dreams are childish, as Mike said when talking to Hopper about El. He “shouldve come up with a more realistic plans for them” but he was still a kid. He loved her and he just wanted to be happy. He didn’t understand everything that was happening. He essentially told himself and us that it was unrealistic, and maybe it was, but that’s not all. They essentially told us all that rejecting conformity is also a childish idea. Once they had all gotten through high school, they “grew up” and that consisted of giving up who they were. The one that I am seeing this especially in is Mike. I think just because he grew up, doesn’t mean he has to dress and look more mature and “professional”. He just looks miserable. And sure, maybe he is still writing his stories full of wonder. I just don’t love the appearances of a lot of the characters at the end. Mike and Nancy essentially turned into their parents, at least appearance wise, and that doesn’t feel like an accident.

One thing that I was kind of impressed with the finale after hearing so many bad things about it was the technological aspects of it. I think Vecna’s lair looked amazing, as well as the abyss. The acting was great, the set was great, and the characters were great. I think people are being too hard on it.
