🌹 if you're still doing books!
Never not here to give people books!
I give you The Vanished Birds by Simon Jimenez. Best book of 2020 for real. Not nominated for anything and it’s a travesty. It’s about Nia Imani, a spaceship captain travelling at relativistic speeds and running from her past, who adopts a boy with a strange power that could reshape the world. It’s also about Fumiko Nakajima, who is a brilliant scientist who abandoned a dying Earth and built the future and also is 1000 years old and has SO many regrets. So Many. Fumiko is one of my top characters of all time for real. It’s slow and melancholy and heartbreaking and gorgeous.

What are your fave post-manga headcanons for Teru?
OOHHHH ok I have a few! tbh I usually don’t have a lot of hcs, but some that I really like for teru:
I’ve seen people talk abt this one a lot already, but I love the fact that he’s found a passion for teaching! I think he’d probably feel most fulfilled when he’s encouraging or inspiring others, so I think that along with sticking around with the awakening lab, he’d probably help grow the lab as well, reaching out to other esper kids and forming some sort of community
I also love the idea of him hanging out at spirits and such more, just like whenever he’s bored or just for fun, bc I think for most of the series we see him in a complete 180 from his initial personality, with only glimpses of how difficult that must've been for him. So I like the idea that after the ???% confrontation, when he realizes that Mob is also average, then he becomes more relaxed and more comfortable in his own personality, and more comfortable with just hanging out at the office with everyone else
I want him and Tome to be besties
I also want him and Tsubomi to be besties
I like to think that he'd probably meet Tsubomi when she visits Mob sometimes, and it might be a little awkward at first, but I also like the idea of Tsubomi becoming more comfortable w/ herself after moving away, especially away from the pressure of being the school idol, so they realize pretty quickly that they have a lot in common actually (school idols who are actually weird as hell) and become bffs forever
I actually don't think he and Tome would get along that well at all at first, but eventually they're just both at Spirits and Such enough that they adopt a weird sibling dynamic anyway
I'm a firm believer in ADHD haver Teruki, I think he'd probably try to rope Mob and everyone else into whatever hyperfixation he's having at the time. They try to start a band at some point, but Mob has no rhythm, Reigen almost loses his hearing completely, Serizawa briefly considers asking for overtime pay, but everyone else has a Great Time.
I'm also a huge fan of the Teru + Shou besties agenda, but I haven't thought much abt how that happens yet
also I don't think he knows how to cook! he tries, esp once he starts working out seriously, but I don't think he's good at it!
was the fic "Hive" by marypsue?
YEAHP THATS THE ONE
@scribefindegil
So I want to preface this by saying that I am absolutely not a professional bookbinder. Not even close. I’m self-taught with whatever materials I can scrounge together. But Scribefindegil’s awesome fanfiction Fisherman’s Knot was recently completed, and that’s a piece of writing that I want to have on my bookshelf. It’s one of the most honest and compassionate takes on chronic depression I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading, and it has forever changed my view of selkies. <3
1, 3, 12, 17!!
1. Describe what your character would be if they were the exact opposite of what they are now. This can mean personality, class, alignment, whatever.
I feel like this is a question that asks you to really distill down what it is you feel is most significant about your character just to come up with its opposite. Personality-wise, I’d say his anxiety/struggles with self-worth and his intense compassion (to pick a negative and a positive) most shape who he is. And of course, I think that with his backstory, an opposite version of himself would have excelled at magic, instead of the actual Erwyn’s failures at it that lead to him becoming a ranger. So a polar opposite version of Erwyn would probably be an extremely confident, skilled wizard with a tendency to minimize or ignore the suffering of others.
Which uh. Is a pretty fitting description of many of the people he grew up and spent the majority of his life around, actually. I wasn’t even aiming for that, but I think it really touches on exactly why, for so much of his life, he’s felt extremely out-of-place and alone.
3. If you were to redo the campaign this character is/was in, what would you change about the character you created? Race? Class? Blood Type? Any/all of the above?
I honestly think too many of the things that make Erwyn... Erwyn are really tied to his class/race/etc details. I might shuffle around a few proficiencies (Insight? Really? After I went and created the character least likely to use Insight?), actually pick the Archery fighting style, some fiddly things like that. But he’s a high elf for a reason, a Horizon Walker for a reason, and I love the character all that has produced.
And no, I would NOT put a higher stat in Constitution.
12. How has your character changed in response to their party members? Are these changes significant or small?
Little bit of both. A lot of it is that he’s slowly changing -- on the whole, I think they are helping him learn to care more about himself, both in the sense of valuing his own abilities and valuing his own life. But while that’s a big change, it’s still in the early stages, and his progress goes back and forth. So sometimes it can look smaller than it really is for him to simply accept their help or kindess.
17. Who is your favorite NPC? Least favorite? What about your character’s favorite and least favorite? Explain why!
My favorite NPC is Palava!! I love my very wise aro/ace cleric dad. Good mentor characters are a favorite archetype of mine PLUS he’s an aspec character whose narrative I have some feelings about PLUS I love his whole philosophy about being there for people who haven’t always had others show them that kindness -- and his whole fantasy first-responder thing is extremely good. Absolutely the kind of character I love.
My least favorite NPC is probably a title that belongs to one or more of the less-pleasant folks Erwyn grew up around (not naming names, because of secrets), just because unlike a lot of the villains in the campaign who are evil, but kind of fun, cartoonishly evil, they’re much more.... real-feeling.
Erwyn’s favorite NPC is definitely Palava too, but it makes sense that those two would align. Palava has been so kind to him, and he really appreciates having someone who is encouraging him to reconnect with all the elvish cultural stuff that he misses while re-framing it in ways that make it feel more like something he’s allowed to claim. There’s a reason I went “Wait...... I think Erwyn might want to multi-class as a cleric at some point now” because Palava’s influence has been so significant for him! And of course, as someone who’s used to having teachers tell him he’s stupid or not worth their time, having Palava and Alembic both serve as genuinely loving mentor figures helping him to pursue a topic he really cares about it completely surreal.
Least favorite NPC is where Erwyn and I diverge (predictably, probably -- I don’t have to deal with any of them in my real, actual life). He really dislikes all the villains we’ve gone up against, but I think his least favorite is probably Esmeralda (who I, of course, LOVE -- as a fun villain, at least). Her whole cult has made it their business to profit off of other people’s suffering, which is enough to make him hate any of them. But as far as asking why her, she, specifically has a certain brand of gloating mixed with cowardice that gets on his nerves extra -- someone who will order others to go do the actual work so that she doesn’t risk getting hurt, but who will still take the credit if it goes right. He finds her particular mix of cruelty, indifference, and ego to be infuriating.
(Plus, you know. She killed him.)

“Last night I had a nightmare where, upon waking, I frantically and...”
snadge i don't understand you at ALL
There are two kinds of nightmares!!
Some nightmares are stressful, sad or otherwise upsetting. If they’re scary, they’re scary in a way that relates to reality or involves things that might really happen/real world worries and fears. Those are painful and not fun.
Other nightmares are scary, but the scary things that are happening don’t relate to real-life worries in any way and could never happen in reality. That’s the good shit, that’s the kind I love! They’re scary when they’re happening and for about thirty seconds after you wake up, but then you get that neat post-roller-coaster high as you realize there are no consequences to anything that happened in the dream and nothing in it could possibly do you harm in reality.
It’s like getting to go through a fully immersive haunted house or really, really losing yourself in a scary story. Plus sometimes you get cool, creepy imagery and ideas out of them that you can use in other stuff if you want.
