Second Date Update | Teen | different first meeting, fluff, transcription of a radio show | ~2k words
Jubal: Today’s “second date update ” is a little mystery. We got an email describing, basically a silver screen date, and we’re baffled it didn’t turn into a second. I’m gonna let our listener tell us more about it. Hey Buck, how are you doing?
Buck: Hey, I’m good, thanks.
Jubal: Walk us through your date.
Buck (audible smile) : Right, so… I don’t do blind dates, but when my sister heard about it, she pushed me into giving it a shot. I met with the guy in the restaurant and the moment I saw him… damn…
Jubal: That good, huh?
Buck: I'm a pretty confident guy, but “way out of my league ” is a fair statement here (chuckle) He was a little bit distant at first and I talked a lot, I was nervous… but maybe 20 minutes in we’re talking like we knew each other for years and it’s fun and easy, and when the dinner was over I had a feeling we both didn't want this to end yet, so we went on a walk, we shared some ice cream… He did seem a little awkward when I flirted with him, but it was kind of cute…
Brooke (gently) : Maybe he wasn’t that into you?
Buck: Yeah, I thought that, so I toned it down, but when we went to a club for drinks he was the one who asked me to dance and well… (laugh) He didn’t leave me much room to doubt.
Jubal (also laughing) : Alright… And what’s the guy’s name?
Buck: Eddie.
Jubal: So how did your date with Eddie end?
Buck: I walked him to his car, his eyes kept darting to my lips, so I took this chance and kissed him. I mean, I wanted to do it throughout the whole evening, but also wanted to make an impression.
Brooke: And did you?
Buck: I think I did (shy chuckle) He was really into that kiss. Not to sound smug, but he didn’t say much after. He looked swooned as he drove off.
Jubal: If that’s the case then why do you think he hasn’t called you back?
Buck (worried) : Honestly, I-I don’t know… maybe I did something or-or was too much, but based on how it all went, it was a great date. For both of us. Unless I read the situation completely wrong.
Jubal: And nothing comes to you as a potential hiccup?
Buck: No, nothing. Believe me, I’ve played this date over in my mind many times… (softly) I-I kinda can’t stop thinking about him.
Brooke: Ok, that’s sweet.
Jubal: Ok Buck, just relax, we’re gonna play some music and when we get back, we’ll call Eddie and see how he feels about your date.
On the one hand the date wasn’t bad. On the other hand when he asked if I knew what something was and I said I did he still proceeded to explain it to me.
i accidentally watched reel 'second date update' form brooke and jubal in the morning and now I see them everywhere i go. can't say i'm not enjoying it tho.
Some mornings, my husband calls me when he's on his way to work because he listens to Second Date Update on the radio. If you're unfamiliar, it's a radio show where people call/write in because they went on a date and the other person never called them back and they want to know why.
This morning he called me to tell me about it. This lady went on a date with a man, and they were at her house and watching a movie or something. She had to get up for whatever reason, maybe to go to the bathroom or something. Dude was left on the couch to wait, and he saw a door open on it's own, heard a child's laughter, and saw something on the floor move on its own. He left real quick. The radio hosts asked the lady if her house was haunted, and she was like, "yeah, my house is super haunted." So the man did not want to go on a second date, because he's afraid of ghosts. Lol
I've gotten sucked into this gal's TikToks where she posts a radio station's morning show feature called second date update. The sheer obliviousness of most of the dudes that initiate the call is bananas. They always think it's a perfect date and nothing went wrong.
One guy didn't tell his date they'd be walking 45 minutes to the restaurant because he thought gas prices were outrageous and he didn't want to drive. No clue as to the fact that she got herself a cute outfit and that her shoes weren't shoes for walking.
Another guy went as a date to his ex coworker's friend's wedding and he hooked up with a bridesmaid after. Didn't think it would get back to her. These were her friends from college.
One guy thought he was connecting with a lady who brought her kids to the same park that he brought his kids to. He thought they had a connection. She just stopped showing up to the park because she could tell he was reading into things. When confronted with the fact that she did not see him that way, he blamed her for leading him on.
I know men have the audacity but WOW.
There are some clueless women, too. One gal got pissed that her date didn't notice she lost an earring and that's why she ghosted him. He didn't pay attention to that and that really pissed her off. Some very obvious golddiggers also seem to initiate the call from the station, too.
