"Modest Mood"
Emily Knows the Truth About Me
I am out with lanterns
looking for myself
and I have yet to find me
for I am looking in
all the wrong places
the past holds no answers
for it is immutable
the future holds only
vague possibilities
and I have blinded myself
with unforgiveness
for my sins
SELF WORTH is a feeling that one is valued and worthy - EVEN having flunked a test, lost a job, gotten dumped by a friend/lover/boyfriend or girlfriend, or experienced anything else that is felt to bear on them negatively. It is a sense that one’s life has meaning and purpose - even if that meaning and purpose have yet to be fully discovered. ~ Self worth can range from a total lack of it, at one extreme...to an overabundance of it, at the other extreme...resulting in a person who may be perceived by others as being pompous, stuck-up, narcissistic, egotistical, and/or overbearing. ~ A person’s self worth is subject to flux. It can be enhanced or diminished by their own behavior. If a person is a ‘normal’ healthy human being who does not take pleasure in harming other human beings - but DOES harm another human being - they may, in their own eyes, experience a lowering of their self-worth. Acts of kindness, and remorse, on the other hand, can increase a person’s self worth. ~ Self worth, then, stands in close proximity to conscience. Is there an optimal amount of self worth? Most all of us, it seems likely, will wish to feel good about ourselves and our place in the world. Some of us may, more easily than others, be able to awaken forgiveness within ourselves if we have been wronged...or be moved to seek forgiveness if we’ve wronged someone else. Some of us may gain strength from our religious/spiritual values which give our lives meaning as having worth in God’s eyes. ~ Just as our physical selves benefit from regular exercise, so can our inner sense of self worth benefit from being regularly attuned.

Daily writing promptWhat’s the trait you value most about yourself?View all responses Talking about oneself is a bit difficult, nay, daunting. People often have very high opinions about themselves and do not want to hear anything against them. It is psychological and to a certain extent good as well. Nevertheless, thinking about oneself critically is knowing about one’s SWOT which stands for…
Turn it around
Few years ago working in a customer service office, my team leader trying to motivate his team used to say to us “Turn it around”. When a customer calls to complain, position yourself to turn the situation around so they go away with a happy story and a positive feedback for you and the company.
How then are we turning our personal weaknesses to strengths? Weaknesses are to be appreciated…
