The United States vetoed a widely backed U.N. resolution Thursday that would have paved the way for full United Nations membership for Palestine, a goal the Palestinians have long sought and Israel has worked to prevent.

I admire control, not the shallow kind that tries to possess another, but the rare discipline of one who holds mastery over themselves.

Control of one’s life. Control of one’s thoughts. Control of impulses and old patterns that once ruled them. It is the mark of someone who refuses to be enslaved by chaos, by weakness, by the gravity of their past. There is nothing more magnetic than a soul who knows how to govern their own inner kingdom. Someone who does not surrender to every passing storm within, but instead commands it, transforming it until they rise into the best version of what the self was always meant to be.

That is the kind of control I respect.

Hate it when people are like "well the world is bad and people are evil by nature, they're too selfish to build a community that's based on kindness and mutual support."

Nonononono! We must never think like this! This is the mindset that religions and politicians and billionaires have used for millennia to control people and make them believe that we are best off under their controlling regimes. Humans have proven time and time again that they are capable of change. Humans can govern themselves. Humans can build and destroy societies. Humans need community and they are capable of it! You absolutely have to trust in people's goodness if you want to make a positive change in your surroundings. Don't believe in your own natural submission to the state of the world or we will lose hope and stop trying to make changes. We need people to believe in the good in humanity do they want to save humanity and this planet. We need to fight for a brighter future for all those who come after us.
