Self Betrayal

With city lights behind me

Green and white glowing bright

Florescent cigarette cinders burning in the night

Pondering my self betrayal

Anger, shame, contained

Holding back a fight

My camera's out

Flash, flash, flash . . .

Capturing my seething eyes

My scowling mug

In this moment I am transformed into 

A civility laced savage caged

My heartbreak rage oozing from my pores

Shooting through through my eyes

Suddenly there . . . you and her coming down the street

And why, why stay? Why would I engage?

Turn away, puff away, strut away

Flick away your degrading ways

In this tainted haze

Her selfish request to keep me at bay

and this somehow your attempt to placate your petulent child come what may

Never again, not one more time

“No . . .” my heart grits, “ . . . this is nothing short of a crime . .  .”

My soul rebels

My tongue casts spells

And my darling, you. . .

you can go to hell-

Yes, I love you

Yes, I adore you

And I will. . . mourn you,

But not. . . , not, myself

I am MY keeper and I will not dwell

In faulty towers with false foundations

It's not my place, and never was, to respond to preemptive accusations

It's now my lovely that You Must see that there is no need to salvage any one 

part of me, or  . . . my reputation.

Reexamine your heart and take yourself up for reconsideration.
