So.... found a surprise in the forest today. We first planted Kiwanos 5 years ago and haven’t planted since yet they are still reseeding themselves and thriving. Did I mention that food forests are self sustaining? No driving to the supermarket, no lines, and pretty much no effort once the forest is established. It truly makes me wonder why this is taking so long to catch on. These beauties are finally showing their beautiful faces again now that I weeded away more of the squash vines. They kind of took over the yard and I’m guilty of letting them. Mind you, I didn’t even plant them. They just started growing on their own. Never would I ever have thought that I’d be complaining of too much food. I’m exhausted of eating squash and so are my neighbors. Going to harvest the last dozen and cut these vines back so that all the other plants can breath again. I’m still shaking my head as I write this. Too much food? Did I really say that out loud? I remember working 2 jobs, nearly 24 hours, 7 days a week at one point of my life and still not able to eat a full meal every day. Now I live a life that is so much less emotionally and mentally demanding and so much more rewarding. Progress really is based on perspective at the end of the day. You deserve to live better and guess who’s capable of providing that life?
