Oh, what’s this?

Pop took a skim or two at the invitation and thought. How… Lovely. It feels odd, going out so soon after their last little outing. Still, it offers a nice break from the training they’ve been doing for the last few months. Besides, there’s the chance to actually see the ocean again. Wouldn’t that be nice?

All that they needed was to get some of their rations and something to store water with. Simple ‘nuff.

Well, what do ya know. Rather pretty place.

After spending the whole day walking, the Lopunny wanted some time to relax for a little bit. They just looked for a tree, hoping to take a bit of a rest before becoming a social Butterfree for the first time in months. Maybe they’ll visit the water for the first time in… years. Huh. Time has really past by. Anyway, after this rest, time for some fun~

Maybe they’ll figure out how to say their wish after a little bit.

As Neo-Ka was taken a few steps, there was an unexpected visitor. She'd tilt her head a bit, her face grimacing a bit at that.

A pause to think that through. She couldn't help but find herself a bit too worked up from that.

"Yeah, no, that ain't fair. 'Course you'd have no idea what I'm talkin' about." She'd shake her head. "Ugh. Anyway.

I've been here. I lived here. I had it all. Ended on a bang. Full lifetime out here b'fore that van actually came back." She'd wince a bit while finishing the last two sentences.

"All started 'cuz of some stupid solo trainin' trip and shitty locks on their end."

"Eh.. Spent longer than expected. You're at least chill. If ya need a guide to some spots 'round here, I can prob still help with that."

There was a second of hesitation. A bit much for folks recently arrived, but neighbors do this, right?

"Every second of life would stay in the... Inside- lab. The In-- ... lab was simply the whole world, closed to everything else beyond. Even when one labcoat slipped up and told someone of the Outside, 20 years ago.. No one still got to see what it was.

I wasn't aware at the time.. But there was a planned breakout. Someone was just supposed to distract the labcoats, the dark-furred Eevee said... but somehow the building got set aflame. The flames never got to anyone, though it left everything in complete chaos. I just happened to join this group in the middle of that... Thanks to the tall one noticing me.

From there, the scraggly one was the only one with a clear direction, so we came here.

We're not the only ones that managed to get out... But I hope someone didn't get left behind."

So, just for clarification, you lived here for quite a while before some van found you and tried to capture you, correct? In that case. How did you get here then? How did the van found you?

I'm sorry, I'm just a bit confused, so would you mind telling this old hag in full detail?

A panicked response. Every question felt more trapping,

"OI! Can ya lay off the questions for a sec-"

The Eevee cut themself off, glaring at the Espeon before they realized what they're doing. The gaze softened; deep breaths, deep breaths.

"A-anyway- I ain't a local. The van and I's got the same origin on that front. Usually it goes out whether there's some special trainin' on some remote spot. Dunno why I was the only one this time, but, wasn't my problem.

Point is, this city apparently was parta the route, and the truck happened t'take a stop, a pretty long one at that. Helps the bozos 'pparently forgot t'come back for awhile. An' forgot to do their usual quality lock work.

Bein' in the city... Was somethin' else. Bein' cooped up forever's never gonna prepare anyone for that."

The rest of the words came out more smoothly than initially, the Eevee seeming to regain her stride. "If it helps, least the labcoats ain't ever picked up outsiders, so consider y'self lately. Jus' don't rapid-fire like that next time Grams, aight?"

So I found a bunch of my mom‘s old letters (don’t worry she’s alive) and it just occurred to me…how many versions of all our loved ones there are that we’ll never know. Like us, they have a rich inner world and life before and after us that we could have no idea about.

Unrelated, but is it still a federal crime to read someone’s mail if it’s over 40 years old? (ง ื▿ ื)ว

Day 20

Draw comfort from the effort you put in, not the results you take home. The universe is not impervious to spent energy. Your reward is within this world's realm.

Daily log accomplished whilst drinking coffee to keep me sane through this pandemic. No staying in my drafts for long, no extended minutes mulling over what to say next, and almost no edits. Just clicking send! No changing my mind! Keeping it raw cause who the hell cares when we’ll all die anyway.

I guess we’re to the point that I should really just leave you alone. I should just try my best to move on and forget about you. But we both know that I’ll never be able to do that. There’s still a hopeful piece of me that wants to believe that you’ll find the strength and the will to turn yourself around in the 2 and a half months until she’s due. But everyday that piece of me gets smaller and smaller. I’m waiting for the day that this isnt so painful and terrifying. I’m waiting for the day that the fact that I’m going to be a single mother at 19 really sinks in. But I dont know if it ever will until she’s born. 

I’ve decided on a first name. I’m still very nervous about when to tell you but I’m sure you’ll like it. The middle name hasnt been quite as easy as the first but I’ll find something. Shes also moving a lot more and you can really see it on the outside now. It freaked my little sister out when she saw it this morning. My next doctor’s appointment is on the 28th. When I went to the one on the 13th of November, the doctor told me that everything measured up to be “textbook perfect”. Even her heartbeat was at the exact average of 160bpm. It felt weird to be in that office without you, though. It was so uncomfortable and quiet. I tried my best not to cry because it all felt so empty and cold, a huge contrast from the first appointments that we were so excited to learn more about what we should do. I did cry though. I cried a lot and it was a struggle to hide it from my dad. Its so strange to be so sad while pregnant. I wondered how I could feel so empty while my body held two heartbeats.

My feelings about you are all so confusing. On one hand, I do miss you and I miss being excited with you, even if it was all so stressful and everything was so uncertain. But on the other hand, I’m terrified of what could happen if you were to ever be in my life again. I wonder everyday about how you’ve been doing and if your getting any better. But I also wonder if I could ever trust you again. I also find it interesting that you were begging for communication. But I haven’t heard from you in weeks. And I wonder if I’ll ever hear from you again. Just know that no matter what happens, I will never control my daughter’s perception of you. When she asks, I will tell her what happened in the most age appropriate way possible and let her decide how to feel about it. And I hope, for her sake, that she has enough love in her heart to not be angry. I hope that one day her and I can pray for your wellness and peace, together.
