I watched Trolls a while ago, but I only recently watched Trolls 3 Band Together. Jesus, I fell in love with the concept of this film. And Floyd is just wonderful. And my brain started adding drama to the story.

I don't know if anything will come of it, but they're just silly ideas.

First, I was struck by the idea at the beginning of the film. Because I rewatched it a few times.

And actually, trolls have been food for the Bergens for decades. The Bergens even built a city around the troll tree, which means it could have been going on for a very long time. We don't know how long trolls live, but maybe even several generations?

And actually, it was only Poppy and Branch's generation that experienced freedom. Which is actually gruesome, and it was very trivialised.

I know it's a children's fairy tale, but still. Gruesome.

Because it turns out that the Bergens even "cared" for (bred) trolls so that they could survive (and become part of a meal).

For a solid month or two now, I've had this curiosity of "what is it like to be female" and, not once, have I been able to resolve this desire. I've talked to people who are female, I've talked to a trans person, I've created art of myself as a girl and even gave her a completely different personality, and I STILL FEEL LIKE THIS!! It's getting to the point of distracting me from doing anything and making me mentally drained. THIS SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO STOP!!

Can art be separated from the artist?

No, that’s a fucking excuse people use when they don’t want to deal with the cognitive dissonance of liking something created by a shitty person, period. Art cannot be separated from the artist because art is permeated by the artist’s perspective, experiences, and life. Everything an artist creates belongs to their worldview, how they see the world, society, people, everything. Woody Allen’s films were riddled with problematic relationships and with him alluding to dating much younger women long before he got involved with his stepdaughter, and they remained so afterward; in the same way, Charlton Heston always chose hyper-masculinized roles that glorified war, the tough man who can do anything, the stereotypical hero deeply tied to nationalism; or Charles Dickens, who was obsessed with orphans and the lost father figure and extreme childhood vulnerability; or Rousseau, who wrote an entire fucking philosophical theory rooted in the frustration of never being accepted into high-society circles and therefore based his thinking on the idea that society was the corruption of man; or Nietzsche, who constantly shit on women—and if you read about him you’ll know they all rejected him because he was a fucking weirdo. Everything, everything, everything that is created is intrinsically linked to who we are, even when it’s not intentional, because these are products created by people, not impartial machines.

The point is how you relate to the fact that a shitty person created something you like. You can choose not to consume it; you can consume it consciously, being critical of its creator without wanting to give up enjoying it for whatever reasons, while understanding that it can be a problematic product and maintaining self-criticism; or you can be a fucking hypocrite and live in the delusion that you can separate the artist from their work, when honestly that idea is absurd, childish, and dishonest.
