Glokta analysis/favourite moments/appreciation post from The Blade Itself. (Only read half)
The 'Why do I do this? Why?' thing going on. I love the subverted ugly torturer trope (who doesn't actually enjoy the torture and is just doing his job)(I guess he wouldn't be good at any other job, given the state of his leg).
The relationship he has with Severard and Frost: he protects/provides for them and they in turn do the same for him. "Oh... This is an excellent chair"' followed by ";) we hope you like it, boss," followed by "You spoil me." made me kick my legs and giggle. Also, the fondness in thinking about them both, like they're his sons. 'My boys, what would I be without you?'
"Do you want me to question [Ardee about talking to Logen]?" said Severard. "No!" Glokta snapped, and proceeded to say that if anybody touches the woman, dies instantly.
He absolutely hates that fop Captain Luthar. Which is understandable because Luthar likes to stand in front of his mirror and talk to his reflection about his perfect jaw. Didn't he literally spend half an hour going 'Why, hello, gorgeous,' the very morning of his contest?
Screaming, snivelling, bitter, biting dog dressed up in an Inquisitor's coat. Inner thoughts provide a fantastic, sarcastic, witty commentary to every single thing that happens. Some of my favourites include (abridged because I don't have the direct quotes on me):
---- I'm going to die if I fail Arch Lector Sult. Oh, good! No more stairs.
--- Arguing with his leg like with his reflection in a puddle.
The fact that the terrifying, revolting Sand dan Glokta is (and has been) a Mommy's boy. My mother used to sing this to me about porridge. My mother keeps dogs, she loves them. If my career doesn't work out, I'll just go home to my mother.
Not rude to people unless in Severe Agony or dealing with Utter Morons. Chokes his own feelings and voice down and replies appropriately or not at all.
All That Pain. And nobody helps nor cares to.
