Welcome to #SpringIntoHips #IGyogachallenge • ➰Day8 • #Hanumanasana or #splits • The pose dedicated to the Hindu God Hanuman- the flying monkey with a heart burst open in full devotion • 📝There is NO PRIZE if your hips touch down 📝 STAY engaged in the legs and core- including pelvic floor 📝AVOID crashing down 📝AVOID sliding into the pose if it's new 📝USE BLOCKS 📝Be NICE to your knees BOTH- The strait leg- avoid over strait. The knee that's down- pad it and don't drag it on the mat- you will hurt your knee. 🎥 1️⃣the first image is a fuller expression of the posture as it is on my body including #backbend 2️⃣ardhahanumanasana (half splits) propped with blocks. THIS is where to start on this pose with whatever height of blocks work in the moment. 🚨 Blocks to not imply weakness they provide SPACE and that is what you are looking for. 3️⃣splits with blocks- for the best and continued support in squaring the hips have blocks under each hand under the shoulders. This is the only way to truly learn to square the hips in my opinion. 4️⃣splits without blocks- this takes time. Maybe one day I’ll go back to red nails. Sometimes I wonder what’s changed besides my nail polish and hair? My leg is still behind my head most mornings but sometimes I wonder what has it really done for spiritual growth… And then I look back and realize that so much has shifted. If you keep practicing, the alchemy of yoga takes all the pleasure and pain of life and turns it into compassion and wisdom. What’s left is joy, overflowing joy. I’m going to California ☀️ First stop Laguna Beach. These photos are from a long time ago. It seems like the world has turned on its axis since then and I’ve lived another life. I’m still the person in these images, my smile is the same, but I’m also different. Besides my hair being totally different now, it feels like I am the next iteration of the same thing, a being who is constantly changing and evolving, like a snake shedding skin is still the same snake and yet different.
