Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

Those VERY nice people who have been restoring ReBoot episodes, have also been working on Mainframe's other shows and have just released a cleaned-up from source, newly re-digitised HD version of the first episode of War Planets/Shadow Radiers, a relatively short lived series about the inhabitants of a solar system where each planet specialises in one thing (Planet Fire has fuel, Planet Bone has Food, Planet Ice has technology etc) and exist in a constant state of unrest as they raid each other for supplies of the other things.

The arrival of a predator Beast Planet (literally, it does a whole Unicron thing and just consumes entire planets) means that one miner from Planet Rock (not a nightclub), a former soldier named Graveheart, has to relictantly try and unite the warring planets against the monster Beast Planet that no one else believes is real... yet.

Yeah, the stories not that original (though weirder than most) and some of the characters are walking tropes, but the production designs and the animation here are GORGEOUS, and it's wonderful to see it get an upgrade in broadcast quality.

I'll never get tired of seeing Cryos' face when Graveheart makes him think. This is an old, Canadian-made animated series I used to watch. Cute ice-bug is cute. Face is so mobile and expressive it's adorable.

I don't expect everyone to know this show, but I loved it.

(Also, for those who don’t know, Femur is the emperor of planet bone, so it’s only fair for him to say ‘I fuckin’ bone’ instead of ‘I fuckin’ rock’, especially because this show also does have a planet rock).

so obviously it was some sort of cosmic civilization that created the world engines and the beast planet. just. why is the question

my guess is that this civilization created and used planets either in games or as proxies for war, bc they exist on a level that sees the inhabitants of these planets as expendable to a certain extent.

if it was for war then some cosmic dipshit created the beast planet as a war machine and lost control of it, and they spent so much energy trying to get it back under control that they wiped themselves out, leaving what is essentially a self-propelled tank wandering the universe looking for fuel (other planets) until it runs out and eventually dies itself . if it was for games, then the beast planet is like. "enrichment" for the universe so its inhabitants have something fresh and exciting to focus on instead of falling into self destructive stereotypic behavior (raiding each other for resources their mysteriously single biome planets are lacking)

So I mentioned that, whole we are done with the "main" UK storyline... there is still going to be a trickle of UK books in, but it is pretty much down hill from here...
