Shadow wasn't always the best with the lovey lovey part of relationships. There were times it was hard for him to show any affection especially at the scale you did. Now this isnt to say the constant love wasnt appreciated.
The hedgehog enjoyed the attention, bathed in it even. It wasnt the love langue he spoke but he sure did like it when it came from you. Not that hed even say that out of the privacy of you home.
But like any normal person, or ultimate lifeform, life got stressful and hard. To you it had been a normal day, going through the motions not in a boring way but in a "content with how my life has played out" way.
You hadn't seen your boyfriend since this morning when you had left to go about you day. The hedgehog got to sleep in, apparently the trio had handled some sort of "other wordly threat" the day prior and now the work was blissfully calm.
At least to you in your basic day to day life it was. For Shadow on the other hand today had been a stressful one. Somehow the entire trio, including Tails, was dumb yesterday. Tails was dumb because he trusted Sonic to take care of disposing the monster and Knuckles was dumb enough to not supervise and monitor Sonic and Sonic was just dumb in general.
So Shadows supposedly peaceful day crashed and burned the second he left the confort of his home. Immediately alerted of some sort of monstrous creature that was tryin to destroy a town. Sonic hadn't disposed of it properly and apparently it wasnt all dead.
The entire day was spent trying ti take this stupid monster down and all Shadow could think about it how idiotic and stupid everyone was all the time. You got home before your boyfriend which was no problem to you, gave you more time to get cozy.
Dinner was fresh out the oven and hot and ready on the counter while a gift you had found for Shadow sat at the coffee table infront of you. There wasnt really any reason for the gift, or the special dinner, but Shadow simply happened to always be on your mind.
You waited, and waited, and reheat the food thsn waited some more, and then put the food in the oven to keep it from getting cold and dry. Finally after what seemed like hours and you were pretty surs it was, your boyfriend walked through the door.
Immediately you sprang up gift in hand. It was a cute little wooden hedgehog that had reminded you of the black and red hedgehog infront of you. "Welcome home Shads how was your day?" You asked cheerfully that your boyfriend was finally home.
You didnt let it discourage you when he just grunted in response. "I made dinner, your favorite, it should be warm. Oh! Also I found this little trinket for you." You looked at the tired and exhausted hedgehog sitting at the kitchen table who didnt seem the least bit interested in whatever you were saying.
"Shadow? You ok?" You walked closer to him putting a hand on his head and petting the quills laying there. Thats when he snapped.
"Do you have to be suffocating me constantly? Leave me alone for once in your life and go away." The way his voiced was raised, the anger in his eyes pointed at you, what he was saying all of it.
All of it sent a clear message. Shadow didnt want to be with you. The softness that flooded his eyes once he realized what he said in his fit of anger almost made you want to just forgive and forget what he had said.
But no. The word "sofficating" and "go away" floated through your head, it made your eyes sting. You were dangerously close to bursting into tears then and there but only a moment after Shadows outburst you quickly made it to the door.
The hedgehog attempted to stop up but he was both tired and not sure he would make the situation better or worse. "Y/n wait i didnt- I didnt mean to say that-" you dont take the time to wait and hear what he has to say.
Your out the house before he can stop and talk to you, but maybe space is better he doesnt want to make the situation worse than it already was.

You had been out of the house hanging out at a friend's for an hour and a half or so, Shadow only knew because you had given him a straight forward text of your whereabouts. Probably so he wouldnt try and search for you.
In that hour and a half Shdow felt like he was going through the five stages of grief. First he denied what he did, I mean really how could he push you away like that? Just shove you aside and say those things. But then he was unbelievably mad at himself.
How could he have possibly said soemthing so stupid? He ran the situation through his head over and over and over and every time he came up with a better answer than what he had said.
Shadow layed on his stomach against the softness of the couch but it did nothing to comfort him. His clothed hands fiddled with the little trinket you had bought earlier that day. He rolled it back and forth between his fingers deep in thought.
A soft click from the door had him sitting up immediately, lightening fast reflexes were useful everywhere. Your form walked through the door way but it didnt seem like you. Once a bright and cheery aura now gloomy.
"Y/n, you're back." good job stating the obvious Shadow thought to himself for a second before standing up and slowly making his way too you. He still wasnt sure how he should face this. "Hey Shads."
It was both the nickname and the sadness in your voice that made his heart swell god im so bad at this. "Y/n Im so sorry," you looked up at him and in that moment the hedgehog saw just how red your eyes were.
You opened your mouth to speak but he raised his hand. "Please just give me a second." Shadow waited for you to close your mouth and nod, he took a deep breath. "Y/n I know ive already said this but I am sorry, I was stressed and I took it out on you. Thats not an excuse and im not trying to make it seem like it is."
Shadow closed his eyes and took another breath talking once more before you could talk, "im not very good at this y/n but I do love you and that includes how affectionate you are. Please never stop, what i did today wont ever happen again. And im sorry it did today, can you forgive me?"
When your boyfriend opened his eyes he was braking himself, for what? He wasnt sure. He didnt expect to see you crying though. Your face winked at the hard squinting in your eyes in an attempt to push away the tears forming there.
Your attempts were in vain, they flowed freely from your already puffy eyes. A little something inside Shadiw broke when he reached out his arms to you, not wanting to push himself onto you but wanting desperatly to hold you.
"Oh y/n", you caved into him deeply. For a moment the too of you stayed like that, in eachothers arms. Shadow stayed quiet, already saying everything he needed too and was now ready to have a free conversation when you felt better.
"Want to go to the couch?" You hear your boyfriend whisper to you. All you do is nod as a few more tears stream down your face, you rub your hands across your cheeck and sniffle.
When the two of you sit down you're facing eachother and holding hands gently. "You can be a real jerk, Shadow." You say with a slightly garbled voice from the crying, it makes you clear your throught dryly.
The bluntness in your voice makes Shadow chuckle a bit. "Not really im just upset." That makes him smile, its a bitter sweet smile that shows just how his heart strings tug.
"Y/n i truly am sorry-" you cut him off before he can go down a rabbit hole of apologies. "Shadow shush, its ok ive accepted your apology and forgiven you. In the future we need to communicate more clearly when we need space, yeah?"
The hedgehog nods, his hearts swells at the pure love he feels in that minute. "Thsnk you y/n," he hand squeezes yours. "Of course Shads."

I got the borders from mk warehouse but I couldn’t get the class and status symbols which is why I replaced them with emojis. The actual status are bullshit.
