SEMI SACRED GEOMETRY and the significance of music in Prey (2017)?

I’m currently doing a deep-dive down the rabbit hole play-through for Prey (2017), for reasons, and I’ve noticed something awfully peculiar recently… am I desperately grasping at straws? Ummm probably… I’ve never been very present in gaming communities so I’m not sure if anybody has come across this/has talked about it yet… regardless… it’s very interesting…

When you get to the point where you have to collect voice samples of Danielle Sho for the main story quest “Gathering Echos,” one of the places you find her voice is in The Yellow Tulip (Did you know yellow tulips signify hope?). Danielle and her newly modded bandmate, Skye Braxton, preform a version of “Semi Sacred Geometry,” which is a banger btw

I felt compelled to look up the lyrics, which I did so via Spotify, since I figured that would probably be the easiest/quickest way (I already have the song favorited and whatnot) Now what is curious, and I could be completely wrong, but I am ALMOST CERTAIN, Is that the spoken lyrics to the song WERE definitely provided at some point on Spotify relatively recently—like I REMEMBER!!! (Maybe I’m remembering wrong? Dr. Calvino, are you in my brain?) Anyway, when I looked at it just a few days ago, the lyrics had changed (or they were always like that and I didn’t notice?) Either way, they are not the words sung in “Semi Sacred Geometry,” but in fact, the lyrics to a song from Dishonored 2 titled “Watery Grave.” Which like… fits so well in the context of Prey.

But wait

I’m not done

Curiously, I went through the album to hunt for other lyrics because surely if this song had changed, there must be something else I never noticed? Correct.

Both “Neuromods” and “Stranded” had lyrics attached to them… both also songs from Dishonored 2… weird? But also… fitting in the context of Prey…

“Stranded” = “Silver and Dust”

Could be a mistake, perhaps? I mean… both games were developed and published by Arkane Studios and Bethesda… so? Did someone make a mistake when adding lyrics to those tracks? But how could you make a mistake like that?

I think it was done deliberately because when looking at “Semi Sacred Geometry” and “Stranded,” you can see that their formatting is pretty much the same as the lyrics for the Dishonored songs, give or take… however, “Neuromods,” just kind of lacks formatting all together, compared to “Jewel of the South,” which even includes “♫” between a few verses…

What does it mean?

I decided to dive deeper and take a look at Musixmatch, which is where Spotify (and Apple Music) get their lyrics from… and found even more interesting stuff that left me with more questions than answers… When you look up “Neuromods,” only three tracks come up, and none of them are from Prey (2017).

> Not surprisingly, “Jewel of the South” from Dishonored 2 is one of the songs that appear, considering what I just said. But something I noticed, that might not necessarily be relevant is that the wiki page for Dishonored 2 states that the standard version of the soundtrack released in 2016 and the deluxe version released in 2017, but Spotify has the album listed in 2018? Hmmm….

> Next, “Different” by Shadrow (in album titled “Water Kerfuffalo,” 2017), which references Paraplexis and red-eye. It was posted on Shadrow’s YouTube specifically stating it was a Prey song but there are a few other songs on the “Water Kerfuffalo” album with lyrics that could also be fitting in the context of Prey…

> And last, my “more questions than answers…” track, “Neuromods” by Revengeday (in an album titled “Redux,” 2019). I cannot find this track anywhere to listen to. It’s possible that it’s hidden behind Revengeday’s subscription thing… which is a bit annoying as I try to dive deeper… but same as the last one though, there are a few other track titles listed on the album (on Musixmatch) that could also potentially be fitting in the context of Prey?

Grasping at straws? Hmmm probably, but it’s fascinating? This, with my recent thriftbooks.com discovery…

What does it all mean? Why is it even a thing that those Prey tracks have lyrics for songs from Dishonored 2? Why does it seem like nobody has talked about this?

SONG OF THE WEEK!!!

Decided to pick from my top songs on Spotify for this week so far.

Dr. Gaster by Shadrow!

Despite being a massive Undertale fan when I was younger, I never listened to this one. I ignored it because I thought the beginning sounded mid. Listening to it now, I would say this is THE best Undertale fan song, and one of the best fan songs of all time.

I always found Gaster interesting when I was younger, but I was much more into Chara and Genocide route (Because I was an edgy little kid). Part of my thinks he MIGHT be important to the lore, but another part thinks it was just a cool easter egg side thing.

No, I will not be mentioning Gaster in Deltarune. I’m not unpacking that yet.

Shadrow did wonderful with this song. I would recommend checking out the rest of their discography. They’re definitely an lol underrated music artists outside of their fan songs.
