The #abandoned Village of Atsion is located in Wharton State Forest in Shamong, #NewJersey. The Atsion Mansion, constructed in 1826 by Samuel Richards, was restored in 2011 and is open to the public on a limited basis. The mansion does not have electricity or environmental controls, allowing the visitor to experience the home as the Ricards family did. The once-bustling ironworks settlement included a company store (now the Park office), a mill (now only ruins), a school, church (still in use), and numerous homes and outbuildings. So if you ever get the chance, head to the Pine Barrens and walk the silent #ruins and empty rooms at Atsion. #nj #njhistory #SpreadTheHistory #historygirl #travelblog #travelblogger #blog #blogger #thisisnj #jerseycollective #njspots #explorenj #igersnj #ushistory #americanhistory #atsionnj #atsion #history #archi_ologie #oldhouselove #pinebarrens #pinelands #whartonstateforest #piney #shamong #shamongnj #atsionmansion #snow (at Atsion, New Jersey)
