Ok hear me out:
I love good drama or fluff mpreg fics ok? But at the same time I am totally for "shanebortion" fics, because the whole thing is reasonable in Shane's circumstances.
So I see a reasonable hollanov mpreg, where Shane doesn't immediately deal with it, like this:
Condom breaks, ok, these things happen.
Shane gets an oh shit pill that very night.
He's an athlete. He's a jock. He weighs A LOT. So the dosage is too little to work.
He has no idea it didn't actually work and goes on with his life.
Again, he's not a tiny girlie, he's a jock. He does not get an obvious bump till really close to term.
He starts to suspect some shit happened at some point.
"You are aproximately 6 something months along, abortion would be illegal", -- "Well SHIT".
"What do you mean you've been playing almost the whole season while pregnant. What do you mean. WHAT DO YOU MEAN".
Shane totally gets his reproductive parts cut out after the C-section.

Chapter 2
TW: divorce, implied cheating, a lot of fighting, past abortion
Ilya's hockey practice was over. He stayed in Ottawa, he got to love the team he once felt really detached from. It was now his home, he was captain, and everybody loves him there.
He forgot his phone in the locker rooms, so he got back. It´s been a little bit more than two months since he last saw Shane, and honestly, he could not stop thinking about him. It was as if Shane was haunting him.
Ilya had a gorgeous fiance, she was also very nice and sweet and chill and funny, but she was not Shane. Ilya got into a big fight with Marleu when he mentioned something about her having freckles, and Ilya having a “type”. They did not talk for months because of that argument they had. The truth is that it hurt Ilya, because he was right, Ilya looked for Shane in every partner he had after their divorce.
“You need to tell the cap…” Anwar says to another rookie like himself.
“I know… I just need to find the right moment. I don't know how to tell him, plus, I don't want to get sued, and I don´t know how Ilya will take…” Gale says.
“Tell me what?” Ilya walks over them, interrupting. He gives a stern look at Gale.
“Ah, cap.” he says with an awkward smile. “Crap…” he scratched the back of his head nervously. He tries to talk but no words come out, yes, Ilya was a really loving and nice captain, but he was still intimidating.
“He is moving The Metros.” Anwar helps him out.
“Montreal?” Ilya asks with a frown.
“Yes. I… I will wing for Montreal next season.” he says with a big smile. Ilya gives him a nod.
“That is good.” he says with a small smile. “What about Hayden Pike?”
Both rookies look at each other.
“Ah… he gets to be team captain.” Gale says. “Please, don´t say anything. I can get in trouble. I think Hollander is retiring.” he says.
Ilya´s heart drops. He knew Shane would never in his life retire this “young”. Shane had a plan, god, he had everything planned. He would retire at 41, start playing golf and travel Europe with Ilya… well, now by himself, or with another partner, not with Ilya, of course. His heart aches at the thought of not knowing Shane anymore, not knowing any of his plans, and mostly, not being part of his plans.
“Okay.” he says simply. The rookies look at each other. There were 3 things that were prohibited to talk about in the locker rooms: religion, politics and Shane Hollander. “Congratulations.” Ilya says, takes his phone, and leaves.
He looks at the screen for some minutes before calling Shane, of course, he does not pick up. Ilya sighs. He should have not called. It feels like the universe is making fun of him, because once he got to his house and turned on the TV, there was Shane´s idiotic and beautiful smile on a damn energy drink ad. He rolls his eyes and immediately turns off the TV.
His girlfriend calls him, he feels terrible, he should be thinking about her, instead he was thinking about Shane, worrying about why the fuck Shane wants to retire.
“Hey baby.” he says as he answers the phone.
“I miss you.” She says sweetly, Ilya´s heart aches, she was on a business trip in her country, she doesn´t know Ilya cheated on her with his fucking ex husband. “How was your day?” She asks.
“I miss you too. I can't stop thinking about you.” Ilya says back, lies.
“Hollander? Did you listen to what I am saying?” A young woman tells Shane, he seems so off, he is recording a new ad for a protein bar.
“Ah, yes, sorry. I'll start again.” He fakes a small smile. He found out he was pregnant a week ago. No one knows yet, but he applied for retirement. He never thought this day would come, the day he decides to retire, and the day he decides to have a baby. Shane had an abortion in the past, but now it felt like he should continue with this, it felt like it was the right thing in his heart.
Shane never wanted kids, it was his biggest nightmare, but somehow he changed his mind, he tries not to think that this is the last thing Ilya gave him. He suddenly snaps out of it when the nausea hits him.
“Fuck…” he says, and leaves the set to go throw up. He hates this so much, last time his morning sickness was not this bad. He can´t drink or eat anything without getting sick.
He films the ad, they take hours, but Shane doesn´t mind. He is really nervous to go to the doctor after it's done, but now he was there, in the doctor´s office, alone.
“Is there something wrong with it?” Shane asks, the doctor did not do anything to alarm Shane or make him think about this, but Shane´s anxiety was over the roof, Shane thought he didn´t deserve anything good happening to him.
“No. You can hear the heartbeat. See?” She says with a small smile as Shane listens carefully. “You are around 10 weeks, the baby is healthy and of average size.” She adds. Shane can´t believe that the thing on the screen monitor was his baby. He felt relieved when the doctor mentioned that his baby was okay, and now the heartbeat was Shane´s favorite sound.
The doctor then looks at the result of Shane´s blood work. She gives him a look. “You, on the other hand, need vitamins. A lot. You may have hypermesis, so I will give you medication for the nausea. If it continues like this you can get severely dehydrated, and it can be very damaging for both of you.” She says. Shane nods.
It was a very big secret to keep, and he was having a baby, Ilya´s baby, and then he realized he needed to tell Ilya, what if the baby looks like him after it´s born? He has a panic attack in the doctor's parking lot, but he gets brave and calls Ilya back.
Ilya is surprised to hear from Shane. Shane does not say anything about the pregnancy over the phone, he just tells Ilya that he has a minor health issue and he needs to see him, to tell him in person because he can´t talk about it over the phone. Ilya´s heart drops, what if Shane was dying? They are only 2 hours away from each other, so Ilya drove to Shane´s house, the house that used to be /their house/. He got there in an hour since he had a sports car.
He knocked on the door, Shane opened, Ilya cursed himself in his mind for thinking Shane was gorgeous.
“I need you to sit down first.” Shane says, Ilya nods, he is terrified, Shane can´t be dying.
“What is it?” Ilya asks, sitting down. He understands Shane wants to talk to him if he was terminally ill, since Ilya was also a hockey player, since Ilya was the only one that understood him in that way, and viceverse. If Ilya was sick, he would want to talk about it with Shane too. Retiring would be heartbreaking for both of them.
“I am pregnant.” Shane says, looking at the floor, avoiding eye contact with Ilya. Ilya stayed silent, his mind racing, of course, if Shane called him it was his, right? He couldn´t say anything. “Say something…” Shane says, the silence hurts. He expected Ilya to be mad, to scream, but the silence was way worse.
“Why did you tell me? Do you want me to go with you to the clinic to end it? Hold your hand? You had no fucking problem by not telling the last time.” Ilya laughs a humorless laugh. “Hayden could not go with you this fucking time?” Ilya asks harshly, this is all he can say for now, he has a lot of mixed emotions.
The reason why they spent 8 months fighting before they finally divorced was because Shane had an abortion. Ilya would not mind, he wanted kids, he begged and begged Shane to please let him get him pregnant, since Shane was a carrier and Ilya wasn´t. Ilya finally accepted that Shane did not want kids, and he was fine with it, no kids but he got to be with the love of his life, it was fair, so if Shane accidentally got pregnant and did not want to be, Ilya would have been very supportive of his decision, it was Shane´s body and it would be his career the one that would be affected after all.
The problem was that Shane did got pregnant, and he didn't tell Ilya, his husband, the man he lived with, he instead went to end it by himself. Shane thought it was the right thing to do at the moment.
It broke Ilya, because he had to find out by Hayden Pike. He still remembers how Pike called him, he was nearly in tears and had to beg Ilya to please convince Shane not to play that night, since he had the procedure done earlier that day, and it could be harmful for Shane.
Ilya felt so hurt, Shane was his partner, he did not mind Shane did not want the baby, what hurted him was the fact Shane did not tell him, Shane did not trust him, so their whole relationship was a lie. That´s when their problems began.
“Ilya I am keeping it.” Shane shrugs a little, Ilya snapping out of it. “I am not asking you to be part of their life, or for money or anything… you just needed to know… In case you know, it has your genes and I end up with a mini you.”
“Keeping it? You?” Ilya asks angrily.
“I am 35. I don´t know if I will get another chance…” Shane says softly, but Ilya interrupts him.
“Fuck, Hollander….” he gets up angrily, this was his dream, to have a baby with Shane, not anymore though. “You can´t do this to me…” he says desperately.
“I am not doing anything to you!” Shane snaps. “You think the fucking world revolves around you, guess what? No one gives a shit! I am not doing this to fucking harm you, Ilya. I am doing this because I want to! I am not asking anything from you! Sorry for letting you know!”
“I am getting married!” Ilya snaps. “How do you think she is going to take this!?” Ilya is panicking.
“It´s not my goddamn problem!”
Ilya takes his hands to his head, then shakes his head. He worries for Shane, he knows how hard it would be for him to be pregnant with the way he is a very anxious person, plus his autism, plus not having hockey, plus the pressure of the outside world, mostly fans.
“I can´t do this.” Ilya says, taking his keys.
“I didn´t expect you to.” Shane answers. Ilya gives a look at him before heading out the door of Shane´s house, his old house, they had so many memories in there, it was too painful. He slams the door behind him.
Shane flinches a little at the noise. He then is left feeling extremely stupid for still being in love with Ilya Rozanov.
So I’ve just learned about Omegaverse (clap clap for me) as well as mpreg and shanebortion (HR fan obviously)and I’m just wondering if anyone has any fics they are writing or would like to recommend as I have read so many on AO3 and it’s becoming an addiction. So if you’ve got any recommendations, I’m all ears.
