thinking about tlg!shane who loses his teammates that he’s had for years, people that he probably considered brothers, people that had him as a groomsman for their weddings. who also learns that his long term boyfriend has been depressed and miserable and getting therapy but has not felt like he could trust Shane enough to tell him what was going on but has slowly been building up resentment for him.

thinking about post tlg!shane who is so used to nothing that he does being good enough for people who has convinced himself that he’s a horrible friend, husband, son, and is waiting for the other shoe to drop on his life just like it did before.

who will turn their back on him next? what if Ilyas upset again and Shane can’t pick up on it? How will he know when the next time everyone in his life decides to hate him at the same time is?

Post TLG married Hollanov. Ilya begging Shane to go out dancing/clubbing. Hayden being like ??? Wym??? You used to go out w me and jj all the time??? leading to jealous Ilya furiously watching video of drunk Shane and jj doing a body shots off of one another after they win their first cup and Shane keeled over absolutely cackling on the ground at drunk Jackie pike falling backwards into the bushes. And Shane plastered sitting in jj’s lap grinning ear to ear as they tease him about Boston lily.

I am so grateful for the show fandom because I still get a little emotional seeing so many people go to bat for Shane Hollander. Like post TLG and pre season one of the show people misunderstood and treated him so bad it makes me so happy that so many people came into the fandom and embraced him as a compelling and nuanced character instead of the comically evil and bad boyfriend to poor little Ilya. I LOVE YOU SHANE HOLLANDER!!! AND I LOVE YOU SHANE HOLLANDER DEFENDERS!!

As much as I love jealous!ilya I am actually more intrigued by jealous!shane and I’ve read a couple fics where Shane stakes his claim and whatnot (and I LOVED THEM) however I love even more to think about how Shane is basically used to being jealous like he fucked a total of what? Three other people?? Before and during Ilya and obviously the only one that was public knowledge was rose. But Ilya? Ilya had girls in every city he had regular girls and one night girls all plastered all over the internet the entire timeline of his and Shane’s situationship. I like to imagine Shane of the early years was kept up late at night tears welling up but not escaping his eyes because “it would be stupid to cry over someone who regards you as a casual fuck, Hollander” and “you should consider yourself lucky to still be on the roster” these thoughts and the shame of his jealousy plague him so much that by the time he and Ilya are monogamous and committed and in love he is so used to just repressing that insecurity and jealousy so that it appears that it doesn’t effect him. And Ilya wants Shane to stake his claim on him sooooo bad. He wants Shane to be jealous and just as possessive as himself and it makes him so insecure that he’s not so he goes out of his way to try and make Shane jealous by mentioning old girls. And none of this works and he is so frustrated so he pulls out the big guns and uses svetlana to try and finally make Shane jealous enough but what he doesn’t expect is for Shane to just burst into tears years and years of shame and insecurity all bubbling over at once and at this point he’s never seen Shane cry like this and eventually he calms him down and they talk and reassurance happens on both ends “I love you so much I don’t want anyone but you I just want to know that you want me enough to claim me” and “I love you more I want you all to myself I’ve just gotten so used to repressing myself” and happily ever after the end

Svetlana finds out about Ilya using her name to make Shane jealous and beats his ass

Prefacing this by saying that I read a fic the other day where Hayden truly did not fw Shane at ALL the first year meeting him and eventually after they became friends he realized that he kind of misunderstood him.

THAT BEING SAID

Shane being afraid to meet Svetlana not because he’s jealous but because he so desperately wants her approval and he truly believes that he is a fundamentally unlikable person… like the only ever person who really got to know him and liked him off the bat is rose. I picture him as a very lonely child in school who only ever had teammates and not friends. All of his adult “friends” like Hayden and J.J. met him through hockey where they were forced to be around him for a while and (in his brain) eventually just got used to him enough that they liked him. Even Ilya and him in his mind were hooking up before Ilya ever liked let alone loved him.

It’s just a very sad and silly thought process that he has where he believes he’s kind of brainwashed or conditioned these people to like him or it happened by pure luck.

So the sense of dread that he has meeting Svetlana that Ilya maybe perceives as jealousy is actually this very strong fear that svetlana will see right through him and hate him and convince Ilya to leave him, after all that is his RIDE OR DIE childhood bestie.

time loop fanfiction where Ilya is reliving Vegas over and over again trying to find out how to escape blah blah blah but also ends up incredibly puzzled because Shane acts completely different every loop and it turns out he’s stuck in the loop as well and is trying to figure out and change whatever he did wrong to make Ilya not kiss him

Ilya coming home to Shane being overstimulated and agitated and he thinks it's best to leave him alone mostly so he goes off and does his own thing and eventually ends up on the couch playing a video game and Shane comes out of nowhere, noise canceling headphones on and hobby of the day in hand (book, knitting, switch, coloring, could be basically anything) and sits next to him which Ilya thinks is really sweet and then Shane very softly asks "are you avoiding me because I'm being weird and quiet again" and Ilya sees his whole life flash before his eyes, every mistake he's ever made, mostly this specific one, and rapidly starts explaining himself and Shane ultimately finds it sweet just nods and stays were he is, doing his thing now with a little smile on his face
