Cool Idea #54
Final Weapon for a Thief of Life with Shieldkind: Whenever your shield is struck, suck away some of the life force from the attacker and take it for yourself.
Shieldkind
Protective Strife Specibus
Shieldkind covers the use of variously sized and weighed plated of material (often metal or wood) to either harm or protect. From the medieval metal shields discarded by warriors once they became too expensive to craft and use, to the advanced fare of small hard-light constructed barriers, to the legendary shields of old capable of matching and besting any fortress in protective ability, all these fall under the Shieldkind Abstratus.
Shieldkind is a relatively simple Abstratus, especially compared to the more elaborate Esoteric Specibii. As a Protective Specibus, Shieldkind can be considered both as a Protective Instrument, and a Violent Weapon. Either way, the shields allocated to this Abstratus shall grant additional Defense and grant the Player it’s various abilities. The usual defense techniques of a shield depends on its design, with bigger and heavier shields being more inclined for blocking attacks head on, and smaller and lighter shields more suited to pushing away and redirecting an attacks momentum. The offensive options of a shield are limited to using it to bash opponents, but this could be augmented by Alchemizing one with spikes or sharpened edges.
Shieldkind uses Mangrit for attacking, Vim or Mangrit for direct blocking, and Alacrity for those more suited to redirecting an attacker's might. Shields are bound to Melee Range, barring those capable of being effectively thrown or with additional abilities, in which cases it has a maximum Range of Medium. It’s Damage is usually limited to the Low-Medium end of the scale barring certain Features.
Specibus Types
Shield comes in three types;
Light: The smallest and lightest of the types of shields, they tend to be the around size of dinner plates, and do not grant much cover. In exchange, they do not encumber the user, and can be thrown quite easily.
Heavy: The type of shield most people think of when imagining the Specibus, these shields tend to be around half the user’s size, and is quite heavy to boot. They grant half cover to the user, and could bash an opponent quite handedly, but their weight makes them difficult to throw, and slightly encumbering to carry.
Tower: The shield equivalent of ‘the big guns’. These towering monstrosities are as big as the user who wields them, sometimes bigger in fact!. Due to this, they grant both incredible Defence and Full cover to their wielder. The flipside of this is that they are often encumbering, sould the user not have a great Mangrit Score, and are almost impossible to throw as well.
Examples
Practice Shield
“A wooden shield about the size of a dinner plate, one your Guardian has crafted specifically for you. It is quite simple, yet it is a precious personal treasure to you. He would have liked for you to use a deadlier Abstratus like Bladekind or Knifekind, but you really didn’t want to hurt anyone. He still insisted on the training though, one you hoped you never had to put to use. You hope you never have to fight.”
Type: Protective Bludgeoning Weapon - Damage: Low - Attribute: Mangrit or Vim - Range: Melee
Features
Familiar Apparel: The result of constant training and use of this object, you have become so familiar with it it might as well be you left arm. Grants a small bonus to using the shield.
Nightmare Aegis
“An shield straight out of a nightmare, all piercing spikes and sharp edges, and what you are hoping is ketchup dripping from it, covered in a shifting veil of darkness that occasionally allows its form to be seen. It’s a miracle you don’t get cut just touching it. You hoped you’d never have fight like he said you would have to, but it’s a little beyond that point now.”
Type: Protective Bludgeoning Weapon - Damage: Medium - Attribute: Mangrit or Vim - Range: Melee
Features
Spiky Surface: This things covered in spike, why, it’s a miracle you’re not bleeding out just holding on to it. The surface of the shield is covered in points and edges, allowing its Damage to rise from Low to High.
Dreadful Mien: The thing looks like it came straight from a nightmare. While this object is equipped all enemies with weak Willpower shall be inflicted with the Completely Terrified Status Effect, while those who resist it would be inflicted with Unnerved instead.
PoL those weapons are great! I love the names and descriptions you give them! Are you down to do some for my Rouge of Space?
Spearkind and Shield kind user
He's a bit of a scientist so he uses hightech spear & shield like Donatello from RTTMNT or Prryha from RWBY
Aside from robotics/engineering things in her room, she has chemicals strewn about to mess around with. Has an interest in animals, but mostly small ones, anything that's not a large predator or Big Cat or large Lesser Cat. He's into all of the sciences, ALL OF THEM. Into Fungi for how crazy they can be
Unfortunately you've caught me in a bit of a burn-out, and my brain is refusing to extrapolate ideas from most of these... I managed to piece together these two because the fungi broke through the exhaustion by how bizarre they seemed to me
Spearkind && Destroying Angel: Divine Lance of Rot
The seemingly dull, soft tip of this pure white spear may trick you into believing it harmless, but don't be fooled: a single jab is all it takes for its lethal poison to seep into the skin, and if the victim isn't pierced dead immediately, five hours are all the time they have left.
Shieldkind || False Turkey Tail: Stratified Defender
What appear to be several colorful mushroom flaps stuck together are actually small shields carefully interconnected to form a single one. Their sum can expand or shrink depending on the need; each will fall off when damaged beyond repair.
Could I possibly be analyzed for a title, with a strife specibus? I'm a very cynical person that wants to be alone most of the time. When asked to help with a problem, however, I try my best to help solve it in any way I can. I normally make it worse, though. I'm not a talker in the least, and I prefer listening to others and how they feel. Call it cheesy, but I actually like what people have to say and have them talk about their passions. I'm not great with emotions, and I tend to be selfish.
SP: *AGGRESSIVELY SLAMS PAGE OF HEART ON THE TABLE* seriously though you are the textbook definition of a Page of Heart, you fit the Heart slot well because of your tendency to work alone, and your ability to listen and try to help others, you are a Page because you somewhat struggle with your aspect role and have a supportive nature! Weapon wise i’d run with a protective weapon that could be used for both yourself and your comrades, like ShieldKind!
I said Finffa was Shieldkind, didn't I?
I guess it deserves a little explanation. The Jerran don't really like to show off their sign, so it's always a subtle pattern somewhere, hence the triangular stripes in the tree-shaped blue form. Jera is the scandinavian rune for the year cycles. Seasons, harvest, and so forth, hence the tree in Runnah's and Finffa's design. The edge is as sharp as a blade, so she uses her shield both for defense and offense. She doesn't use her battleaxe very often, but she owns with her shield. It's also pretty big, actually.
I'll probably make a post for height references and such.
I can honestly say, that this is the first Strife Specibus question that wasn't a Void player that answered itself.
The Knight of Life is a defender class centred around protection of life - and because of this, they tend to avoid hurting /any/ and /all/ forms of life, whether it's good or not.
Because of this, Shieldkind is actually the highest possible choice for the Knight of Life, as it isn't a killer weapon, and it can be used in unique fashions to get a non-violent approach to a violent situation.
