happy pride to them only
Month 2/12
Qween Jean is not the first openly trans person to win a Tony. She is the first openly trans woman to win a Tony.
I'm not talking about Alex Newall. Alex does not identify as trans.
I'm talking about J. Harrison Ghee.
On the same exact night that Alex Newall won their Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for her role as Lulu in "Shucked", J. Harrison Ghee won Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for their role(s) as Jerry and Daphne in "Some Like It Hot". (June 11, 2023).
J. Harrison Ghee identifies as transgender and nonbinary.
Do not dismiss trans folks who also identify as nonbinary.
(To even take it a step further, Toby Marlow - who identifies and nonbinary and transfeminine - became the first nonbinary person to win any Tony in 2022 when they won Best Original Score for the musical "Six".)
