In a tiny apartment full of plants and moonlight, a simple, aching happiness blooms. But with what Jungkook knows, how long can the happiness last?
My notes: So. I just kinda HAVE to recomend this one. I’ve read a lot of good Yoonseoks but like this one. Is adorable. I was like. Cooing all through. It’s just. Pure fluff. If you ever feel like you just need pure fluff this is the fic you should read. Fluff in its purest form. I just. There’s no other way to describe this. There’s like. One chapter of angst. And Hoseok’s sad. But. It’s still fluffy.

Summary: When Jungkook doesn’t even know himself and Jimin has to be there to tell him what to do (I’m bad with summary, sorry).
Genre: Fluff, slight angst
Warning: probably overused plot, poor grammar, and limited vocabulary (but, hey I’m trying.)
Jungkook is a man of loyalty, sometimes overly attached. For someone as introvert as him once he gets close to someone it’s extremely hard to detach himself. Jungkook was dating Seokjin 3 years ago, a romance everyone finds inside the fairy tale, sweet without the bitterness, at least for a year.
Jungkook was a sophomore and Seokjin was a senior. Both were the cooking club’s member, along with Jungkook’s childhood best friend Jimin. Jungkook was timid unless with Jimin, and Seokjin was putting so much effort to make the boy to at least look him in the eye. They hang out together so many times, the process was slow and Seokjin was a man of patience, he liked Jungkook of course, even Jungkook as dense as he is known about the older’s feelings way before Seokjin confessed.
It was during Seokjin’s graduation that he finally confessed to Jungkook. Jungkook was frightened, he liked Seokjin but he wasn’t sure whether he wanted any relationship with him. He didn’t answer when Seokjin confessed to him, the handsome boy sighed in disappointment and clear sadness before he walked away. Jungkook felt a tang of regret inside him whether for hurting Seokjin or for rejecting him, he wasn’t really sure.
Jimin was there the whole time, when Jungkook walked back with his head hanging low and shoulder slumped he was there, laying a reassuring hand on the younger’s shoulder.
“If you’re going to regret it you should have accept him.” Jimin smiled and patted his best friend’s shoulder a few times.
“I didn’t know what to do.” Jungkook shook his head and wiped the edge of his watery eyes.
“You like him, right?” Jimin asked, that sounded more like a statement rather than a question.
“…I think so.” Jungkook furrowed his brows, peering at Jimin behind his locks.
“Then go.” Jimin gave him one last pat, slightly stronger, almost pushing the boy forward.
Jungkook was staring at Jimin, asking for confirmation one more time, after all Jimin knew Jungkook better than Jungkook himself. Jimin encouraged Jungkook to dance when the younger had almost to none confidence to his dance skill. Jimin encouraged Jungkook to join cooking club when Jungkook didn’t even sure why did he enjoyed cooking for their lunch so much. And Jungkook realized that two things he enjoyed the most in his life was dancing and cooking after that.
“Go.” Jimin nodded, Jungkook didn’t know why at that time he was contemplating whether to chase Seokjin or ask Jimin why did his smile was different, why did even though he smiled widely, showing all of his teeth, the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
But because Jimin told him to, because Jimin knew Jungkook better than he knew himself, Jungkook ran, catching Seokjin at the gate, finally telling the boy that he liked him too.
~
Jungkook and Seokjin started dating after that. Seokjin treated him gently and kind, they went slow with only pecks and hugs that filled their relationship and that made Jungkook felt comfortable, and Jeon Jungkook hardly feel comfortable with anyone before except Jimin. Seokjin was such a caring guy, almost like a brother for him.
He dated Seokjin a little less than a year already. He had become so attached to him. Even more since Jimin was busy with his study, since Jimin always turned down Jungkook’s invitation to hang out together with Seokjin, since Jimin never joined him at lunch anymore. Since Jimin told him that he should pay more attention to his boyfriend rather than him. Jungkook just needed one phone call, just one message, and he would run to meet Jimin, but it never came. They would meet from time to time, because Jungkook’s parents and Jimin’s parents were best friend, though Jimin always turned down the sleep over they he offered.
~
At his first anniversary with Seokjin, they broke up. Seokjin scouted by an entertainment company, it wasn’t a surprise, he had done a few part time jobs as a model back in high school. Jungkook didn’t realized how much Seokjin meant to him until then, it hurt so much when Seokjin asked for a break up. Perhaps, for Jungkook, Seokjin was the only one he had left, the closest person he had since Jimin drifted apart from him, closer than Jimin physically but never mentally.
Jungkook was losing himself without Seokjin and Jimin. Seokjin somehow able to distract him from wondering why Jimin was avoiding him, but with neither Seokjin nor Jimin beside him Jungkook wasn’t sure anymore. Seokjin had always comforted him, stroking his hair when Jungkook was having a hard time. And Jimin, Jungkook didn’t even know where to start listing how much Jimin had done to him, how much Jimin changed his life, how much Jimin meant to him.
~
A few months after Seokjin left Busan the advertisement board for soju product with Seokjin face on it was placed right across the street of Jimin’s pet shop which he opened almost a year ago right after he graduated high school. Jimin was there when Jungkook was sitting on the bench right in front of the advertisement board. He brought Jungkook his lunch and smiled, Jungkook couldn’t remember when did the last time he saw that smile.
“You okay?” Jimin asked, sitting right beside Jungkook casually like he hadn’t ignored Jungkook for almost a year.
Jungkook stared at him confusedly, like he just saw a ghost before he proceed to answer, “yeah.”
Jungkook wasn’t really okay, because he was already too attached to Seokjin and their break up wasn’t exactly something he could remember as a good memory because it included screaming and cursing at each other. Jungkook felt his heart clenched at remembering how Seokjin was looking at him with disgust and hate, when Seokjin was calling him immature, or the most painful one was when Seokjin yelled and said, “you never actually like me Jungkook, don’t act like you’re sad!” after everything Jungkook gave him, after every lunches, every presents he gave from saving his pocket money, every class skipping he did just to meet Seokjin.
~
Even now, Jungkook still sits on the bench in front of the bill board like he did 3 years ago. Jungkook isn’t sure why he does such ritual, probably because he still misses Seokjin. Jimin is there to join him every lunch break. They will sit in front of the big board, watching Seokjin’s smiling face, sometimes talking and joking. Jimin thinks Jungkook hasn’t get over Seokjin yet even after 3 years, even after the picture doesn’t look as great as the first time they saw it, Jungkook thinks so too.
But Jungkook knows later that the reason he enjoys sitting there so much is because Jimin is there beside him. At some point, Jungkook finds himself staring not at the board but at the person beside him instead before he averts his gaze when Jimin is looking back at him. Jungkook starts looking forward to Jimin’s lunch break every day, starts cooking lunch for Jimin again, it has become a ritual for Jungkook to sit there with Jimin, after all his dance teaching class doesn’t start until 2 PM, after all his dance studio is right beside Jimin’s pet shop.
Their school’s rooftop used to be their secret base, but now, this bench across Jungkook and Jimin’s building, in front of Seokjin’s bill board is their secret base. Jimin never says anything, never asks Jungkook what happened with Seokjin and Jungkook is thankful for that, after all Jimin knows Jungkook better than Jungkook ever known himself.
Jungkook is staring at the man beside him, even after he became an adult Jimin never change. He’s still the cute little hyung for Jungkook. He watches how Jimin’s blows his hot cup ramen before slurping it down, humming in contentment. He chuckles as he watches the man whom supposed to be older than him eating like a kid before Jimin finally realizes that he’s being watched.
“What?” Jimin asks, still chewing his noodles while looking at Jungkook, slightly frowning.
“No, you’re just really cute hyung.” Jungkook giggles before he eats his own cup ramen.
“I’m not.” Jimin protests before blowing again and gulping down the ramen soup.
Jungkook stares again, smiling widely and starts to laugh when Jimin chocks on his ramen and proceed to coughs a few times.
“Shut up!” Jimin says between his coughs and hits Jungkook’s arm.
“Here here, why are you eating like a kid?” Jungkook pats Jimin’s back a few times trying to calm him down but still laughing his ass off.
“Even adult could chocked on their ramen Jungkook.”
“Okay, I’m sorry, you should eat slowly.” Jungkook says as he hands his bottled water toward Jimin.
“Jungkook?” The voice that comes from behind them freezes Jungkook and Jimin, it’s a familiar voice for both of them, even more for Jungkook.
“Seokjin?” Jungkook turns to see a face he has been watching for the past 3 years, the face that face has gotten more handsome, neater, and groomed.
“Hi.” Seokjin waves slightly while smiling, he looks back and forth between Jungkook and Jimin, giving the shorter male a smile before he turns his attention back to Jungkook.
“Can we talk?” Seokjin asks, looking hopeful and slightly nervous at Jungkook.
Jungkook doesn’t say anything, he’s still puzzled and somehow overwhelms by the sudden visits by someone he thought he missed all these years.
“I’ll be waiting at the park.” Seokjin says before he walks away from both Jungkook and Jimin and gives Jimin one last smile.
“You okay?” Jimin’s warm hand on his back pulls Jungkook back from his trance. He turns to Jimin who’s smiling at him and rubbing circles on his tensed back.
“…yeah.” Jungkook says hesitantly.
“You missed him right?” Jimin asks as his hand never leaves Jungkook’s back.
“…I think so.” Jungkook says again, for some reason more doubtful and more hesitant than the first answer he gave Jimin.
“Then go.” Jimin says again, his playful tone replaced by the stern one, as usual even surer than Jungkook.
“Go.” Jimin repeats. And Jungkook sees that smile again, that wide smile that never reaches his eyes, the smile that doesn’t make his eyes turn to beautiful crescent, that smile that he gave Jungkook 4 years ago when he told Jungkook to chase after Seokjin.
Jimin pushes Jungkook and before he knows it he’s already standing up, looking down at the smiling Jimin who nods and ushering him to go to Seokjin.
Jungkook walks away from Jimin, every 10 steps he takes he’d look back at Jimin who’s still sitting there on the bench with their half empty cup ramens.
And Jungkook keeps asking himself the same question he asked himself 4 years ago when he ran toward Seokjin.
‘Jimin, why do you look so heartbroken?’
~
Seokjin is waiting for Jungkook there, slightly anxious, he wants Jungkook back. He realizes that he loves Jungkook more than he thought, he couldn’t forget about Jungkook even after 3 years leaving him. So he hugs the younger as soon as Jungkook is close enough to him.
“Thank you for coming.” Seokjin says as he smiles that soon faltered when he sees Jungkook’s face.
Jungkook is far from happy, far from relieved to meet Seokjin again, far from smiling. Jungkook frowns, his face contorts with worries and sadness, not the kind of happy sadness but just plain sadness.
“Jungkook?” Seokjin asks, as he cups the younger’s face scanning him in worry.
Jungkook shakes his head a few times, he’s trembling, all the things he never realizes before finally hits him. His mind is full of the man who’s probably still sitting on the bench watching his back. Jungkook can’t handle the fact that he’ll lose Jimin again, that Jimin will drifts apart from him again if he’s back with Seokjin.
“Jungkook?” Seokjin asks again but Jungkook can’t hear anything as he keeps remembering Jimin’s face when he pushed Jungkook, when he told Jungkook to go to Seokjin. How come he never realized how much Jimin means to him, how much Jimin sacrificed his feelings for him?
“I’m sorry.” Jungkook finally says between his fit of panic at all the sudden realization.
“I’m sorry I have to go, hyung.” Jungkook removes Seokjin’s hands from him as he walks backward, pulling himself away from Seokjin.
“Jungkook.” Seokjin calls again, reaching out to Jungkook but the younger backs away even more instead.
“I-I really have to go, Jimin hyung, Jimin hyung is waiting, he’s-he’s probably crying right now, I’m sorry I’m so sorry.” Jungkook apologizes over and over again though he’s not sure whom is he apologizing for, probably to Seokjin for rejecting him right when he come back after 3 years, probably to Jimin for hurting him all those years when Jungkook didn’t even know his own feelings, for those years Jimin has been there beside him, comforting him and encouraging him, for those years when Jungkook has been oblivious of his own feelings.
“I’m sorry.” Jungkook finally lets the tears slips from his eyes and Seokjin finally understands and let go of the younger before sighing in defeat.
“It’s okay.” Seokjin smiles and turns Jungkook around and pushes him slightly forward.
“Now, go to Jimin.”
Jungkook looks back at Seokjin, his tears still streaming down on his cheeks.
“Took you long enough.”
“Hyung.” Jungkook walks toward Seokjin as he watches him in worry he can’t just hurt Seokjin like this, after all Seokjin used to be someone so important to Jungkook who stayed and loved Jungkook when Jimin wasn’t there.
“You were never a substitute.” Jungkook says between his chocked sobs and it’s true because he was sincere when he dated Seokjin, he tried his hard to make Seokjin happy, he never thought of Seokjin as some kind of Jimin’s replacement.
“Thank you.” Seokjin smiles before he pushes Jungkook away again.
Jungkook runs back toward the bench but Jimin isn’t there anymore, just like last time, Jimin decides to back away, to remove himself from Jungkook’s life again.
Jungkook runs again toward Jimin’s pet shop, it isn’t locked so he excuses himself inside only to find Jimin curls up behind his counter, crying.
“Jimin…” Jimin’s head shoots up as soon as he hears Jungkook’s voice calling him softly.
“Jungkook…why are you here?” Jimin asks while he wipes his tears with one of his sleeve as Jungkook move closer toward him.
“Hyung…”
“What about Seokjin hyung?” Jimin asks, and how more broken can Jungkook be knowing that even though Jimin is crying himself he’s still worrying about Jungkook over himself.
“Hyung, I’m sorry.” Jungkook says as he wraps his arms around Jimin and pulls him closer, Jimin is trembling, he hides his face on Jungkook’s shoulder, he’s crying harder because Jungkook’s scent and warmth that surrounding him is overwhelming and how he loves it so much and how bad he wants the time to stop.
“Hyung, I love you.” The confession is out before Jimin can gather himself up, he thought Jungkook hugs him because he needs comfort, because Seokjin probably hurts him again, he never thought Jungkook would say those three words toward him so Jimin chose to stay still, to make sure that it isn’t just his imagination, to make sure that it isn’t just a dream because he dreamed about this for God knows how many times before and it usually ended with him waking up and cried over the reality.
“Jungkook…” Jungkook breaks in tears when Jimin’s soft voice is calling him with so much love and longing.
“Hyung, I love you, I really really love you, fuck, I love you so much hyung.”
And this time Jimin finally pulls himself away from Jungkook, scanning the younger’s face which in as such a mess as his, if not more.
“Jungkook?” Jimin asks again, he can’t believe what he hears. He never dared to think of the possibility of Jungkook returning his feelings before.
“I mean it hyung, I love you. I’ll say it over and over until you believe me.” Jungkook never looks so mature before in Jimin’s eyes, not until today when he sees Jimin right in the eyes and confessed his feelings so firmly like he’s not the introvert and the timid Jungkook Jimin had known all this time.
Jimin pulls Jungkook again, finally braving himself to embrace the younger, the man he loves all these years, the man he gave up once before.
“I love you too, for a long time.”
And Jungkook kisses Jimin’s lips, placing his hand on Jimin’s nape and holding his waist with his other hand. Jungkook’s finally sure of his feelings, surer than he’s ever been in his life.
