Why do OUAT fans feel bad for Sidney Glass of all characters, I wanna know. Every time someone mentions him, they seem to think Regina cursed him into the mirror, but that's literally not what happens. Regina didn't put him in the mirror, he wished himself there: it was the drawback of his wish to be with her forever, against her wishes! You could even see the horror in her eyes when she realized she was about to be unwillingly shackled to another man, only for karma to hit instantly.

He's also the ultimate fuck boy. Leopold freed him from prison, offered him his friendship, and Sidney murdered him because he coveted his wife. Like, don't get me wrong, Leopold deserved it - and Regina absolutely played Sidney into taking the blame. But Sidney still was 100% on board with killing his personal savior to get the girl, and when she turned him down, he tried to magically bind himself to her anyway. And succeeded! Just not the way he wanted.

Sidney sucks.

thinking about ouat again and it's absurd how there is a plotline in season 1 of a black man functionally being enslaved by a non-black woman. why did they do that. why did they make the only prominent black man in season 1 the mindless henchman who's used like a tool by a non-black person. why did they not cast, like, anyone else for that role and give giancarlo something else to do. did no one have the foresight into the optics of that???????

Sidney Glass being Ella's bio dad would actually be so funny. We don't know what happened to him after the frozen arc, right? After Ingrid freed him from the mirror? I don't remember seeing him again except for in flashbacks.

Maybe he got hold of a magic bean and skipped realm. Ended up in the New Enchanted Forest/Magical Forest. Met Cecelia and had Ella.

I do think that Giancarlo and Dania look alike. In that great casting by ouat sort of way.

Though my preferred version would be if the Wish Realm version of the Genie of Agrabah/Magic Mirror were Ella's father. The Wish Hook and Alice storyline already establishes that a Wish Realm character can get to the NEF pretty easily. So maybe, Wish Genie/Mirror got freed from the mirror around the time Wish Snow and Wish Charming defeated Wish Evil Queen. He then goes to the NEF. Etc. Etc.

Not my usual content but I need to get the thought outta my head.

me & my sister have a theory/HC that in the first season of OUAT, when Leopold asked Sidney to find the man that stole Regina's heart he was going to either cut a deal with them to send her away with her "beloved" (Obviously we know Regina didn't really love Sidney but still) or just like, straight up invent divorce in the Enchanted Forest bc it felt so out of character for "The Good King" to be so weirdly controlling and abusive ngl

Leopold feels more like a plot device than a real character tbh and whatever he does is just what the narrative needs to happen but think with me here bc i cant get over the tragedy of the idea that all Regina had to do was tell Leopold she was unhappy in the first place and it might have solved almost everything.

(Not excusing how he didn't notice himself bc he really did neglect tf outta Regina, but based on how spoiled Snow was as a kid i can only assume he had the mentality that giving her the "privilege" of marrying him and becoming the queen to be any woman's dream so how could she not be happy)

But the way he sort of laments that he knows he can't love Ragina the way she needs and asks Sydney to find who she does love and how hes kept saying how he just wanted everyone in his kingdom to be happy makes me feel like there might of been a much different intention than the usual tyrants "lock him up and throw away the key" routine. He also doesn't even remotely seem like the type to want to humiliate Regina for being unfaithful or anything.

I mentioned that I thought he might invent divorce but my sister pointed out to me that there's a historical president of married monarchs living in entirely different parts of the country of each other so even if the couldn't divorce Leopold wasn't entirely out of options considering he canonically had at least two castles and could of sent Ragina to live in one of them to have her own life away from him.

What's Cora gonna do? (Dont answer that) He's the king. Ragina still keeps her title as queen and a big ass castle.

If Ragina had to lie about being with Sydney im sure she could have delt with him one way or another, or hell, Sydney adored her, maybe in another world where she were allowed to let herself indulge in that affection she might of fell for him arranged marriage style (not that i ship it, just a what if idk)

Yeah anyway, that was that mindless ramble. Maybe im wrong, i don't actually know the good king story, maybe he's entirely in character and secretly a bastard but thats what I like to think about the situation

In The Arabian Nights, there’s a story called "The Falcon of King Sindabab". The story itself isn’t as fascinating as the fact that it’s told by the vizier of King Yunan. And who is King Yunan? A character in the story of the fisherman. Which fisherman? A character of Scheherazade, who is telling this story to her husband, the Sultan, and her sister.

The first time I saw this, I thought about what a narratological marvel it is. We’ve descended five levels of narration. But what I find even more amusing is that Scheherazade’s fisherman is almost a self-insertion, because he’s telling all these stories to a genie so it won’t kill him—using the exact same strategy she uses with the Sultan.

The fisherman finds a jar and opens it, and out comes an efreet who could kill him at any moment, but doesn’t—because he’s being told a matryoshka of tales. That makes me think that maybe these creatures have a weakness for such things. That’s where the idea came from to make Sidney a trafficker of fables, tying him more to the literary source than to the Aladdin film, and making that, somehow, the origin of his bond with Regina—beyond slavery.

I even left a small nod to him beginning the story of Oz the way Scheherazade would begin another of her nights.
