At #Siggraph2016 The Motion/touch sensitive part of the #HangingLightField with Jordan, Followed by me trying out a full-body #hepatic #VRsuit which utilized the #HTCVive, then onto the famed 3D painting app #TiltBrush!! I finally got to experience what so many people were telling me to try out, and it's awesome! Would love to play around in more!! Thanks to all the cool people @google's VR booth @acmsiggraph #DanielLionArts #VR #VirtualReality (at Anaheim Convention Center)
So I went to SIGGRAPH this past week in California and let me tell you it was incredible. I went as a student volunteer so I had my badge paid for and ended up getting into some pretty cool places. The first of three planes was a tiny 9 seat propeller plane which was surprisingly awesome. The other two were regular jet liners that came with all the drama you would expect from delays to missing and rescheduling flights. The next picture is from an AMD Capsaicin party that I ended up, through a series of fortunate events, getting a VIP badge for and there was free food and drinks! The next two are at an Nvidia party the next night which also had free food and drinks and the bar had this ice sculpture that they used to mix drinks (through the funnels at the top) Then there are the awesome displays like this fully immersive VR driving game with a fully responsive simulation cockpit. Next is the venue for the Renderman 21 reveal at the Pixar/Renderman party (yes I got a walking teapot, I actually got two over the time I was there) The gif blew my mind. OptiTrack has mocap software that will track multiple people and objects and in real time replace them with a rigged character or even playback in a game engine. I got to put on the VR headset and could see the avatar replacing the man in the Mocap suit and his basketball. He passed me the ball and the latency was so low that I could catch the ball without even being able to see my hands in the VR space Next was a huge light display that the audience was encouraged to walk through and the lights would wash colors all around you and play relaxing ambient music. It was definitely appreciated after working long crowd control shifts. Lastly, my friends and I had a field day at the Intuos tablet display (I drew Saitama. I'm not the one with the crazy calligraphy skills.) All in all it was such an amazing experience and if anyone actually read this far: if you're into digital art or techy things, I would definitely encourage you to go if you get the chance. There are tons of networking opportunities and it's an all around fantastic time

Ah, one free drink ticket well spent. Fair thee well, #siggraph2016. Next year, how about a little less VR or a whole lotta more free drink tickets? #virtualBoy #renderman #latergram (at Disneyland Hotel)
Well, SIGGRAPH 2016 is officially finished, and we had a great time. If you don't want the fun to end though, you can still stream selected panels online, even if you didn't attend! Panels are only up for 1 week after their original presentation time, so move fast! http://s2016.siggraph.org/live-streaming-sessions
We recommend checking out Technical Papers Fast Forward and Real-Time Live, two of the highlights from any trip to SIGGRAPH. Technical Papers Fast Forward is a great way to get a quick overview of all the best research of the year in CG. The session itself a bit long, but with every presentation lasting less than a minute, it's easy to fit into whatever time you have available. And Real-Time Live is a fun, often dramatic live-on-stage show featuring the best of real-time graphics for games and other applications, which sometimes doesn't get the most attention otherwise. Hope you enjoy!
